JMI & ISB Hyderabad Launches a 6-week Workshop for MA in Development Communications Programme

New Delhi: The MA in Development Communications programme has been launched with a six-day workshop by the Bharti Institute of Public Policy (BIPP) at the Indian School of Business (ISB) and the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (AJKMCRC) at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI). The participants of the workshop will work in the forests of Malkangiri, Odisha, for practical training. 

The local communities and people who live in working forests are the focus of the Jamia and ISB Hyderabad partnership. According to the statement, it seeks to "foster academic and knowledge collaboration" by "building a scalable and sustainable forest economy and livelihood, with a special emphasis on Community Forest Resource Rights (CFR) and women-led enterprises". 

The latest reports suggest that the MA Development Communication 2023 cohort was the first to collaborate. This course's orientation programme was held in JMI's Mir Anees Hall on May 15, 2023.

The collaboration will involve academic and research cooperation in which students will have access to "resources, including faculty expertise, cutting-edge research facilities, and industry partnerships" through which they will "develop effective communication strategies to engage with stakeholders at various levels" and gain a "deeper understanding of the forest economy".

The programme begins with a six-day workshop, after which students engage in comprehensive research, documentary production, training, capacity building, and advocacy campaigns centred on forest rights and the economy during their field experience in Malkangiri forest. 

The students will have hands-on experience working in forests, learning about systems, interconnections, and historical views on Indian forest rights. The faculty of the programme will begin after a week of commencement of MA Development Communications.
