IIT Madras Deakin University Research Academy to Grant 30 Scholarships

New Delhi: At the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet, IIT Madras started an impactful collaboration with Australia's Deakin University, introducing the IIT Madras Deakin University Research Academy. This joint venture at the IIT Madras campus aims to empower promising graduate research scholars from SAARC and ASEAN nations to tackle global challenges effectively.

The academy's flagship initiative is a four-year joint Ph.D. program offering exceptional international doctoral training opportunities. In 2024, it will allocate 30 scholarships to candidates from IIT Madras and Deakin University, marking a significant milestone in their partnership, which began in 2012.

This innovative program fosters doctoral research and encourages collaboration between post-doctoral fellows and academics from both institutes. The exchange program enables knowledge transfer and enhances collaborative efforts. Deakin University will sponsor 10 research scholarship positions, while IIT Madras will provide 20, further strengthening this collaborative alliance.

What is the aim behind IIT Madras Deakin University Research Academy?

The primary goal of the IIT Madras Deakin University Research Academy is to nurture a cohort of scholars equipped to address global issues. The academy strives to empower scholars to pursue groundbreaking research and innovative solutions by pooling resources, expertise, and opportunities from two prestigious institutions. This joint initiative represents a significant step towards fostering international collaborations and empowering the next generation of global leaders in research and academia.

Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras faculty, said, “Through this academy, IIT Madras will partner with Deakin to build upon its technical and research expertise and environmental stewardship and social responsibility action plan to emerge as a leader for sustainability teaching and research in the global south. I look forward to the far-reaching positive outcomes that this academy is sure to generate.”
