A committee has been formed to assess feedback from students and provide suggestions to consider relevant bodies in the matter of termination policy.
New Delhi: IIT Kanpur issues an official statement to clarify its position on the termination policy for PG students. There were several proposals suggested by the committee that was formed by IIT Kanpur to assess feedback from students, one of those proposals suggests not terminating PG students due to their academic deficiencies.
According to the Dean of Academic Affairs, Prof. Shalabh, no decision has been made on this proposal, and changes made in the termination policy have only been implemented for UG students since 2022.

An internal survey conducted by the student body at the institute shows the challenges faced by research scholars especially those pursuing their PhD programs. Many students are concerned about the discrimination happening to them based on favouritism, elitism, and casteism. These things torment the mental health of the students in the institute.
Another survey was released following a series of tragic events that include student suicides at IIT Kanpur. Three students died by suicide between mid-December to mid-January, prompting protests on campus.
Following the third suicide on January 18, there were demonstrations on campus, with students calling for substantial adjustments to the educational setting. They want early thesis reviews, evaluations conducted twice a semester, and the creation of an ombudsman panel made up of members from the faculty, the outside world, and the student body.
