IIT Guwahati has announced an extension of the application deadline for postgraduate programmes including MTech, MDes, MSR, and MA for the July 2026 session. The new deadline is April 15, 2026, at 5:00 PM, providing candidates additional time to submit their applications.

However, the MBA programme maintains its original deadline of April 10, 2026, and is not included in this extension. Eligible candidates can apply online through the official IIT Guwahati admission portal at iitg.ac.in/acad/admission/.

The extension applies to four postgraduate programmes: Master of Technology (MTech), Master of Design (MDes), Master of Science (Research) (MSR), and Master of Arts (MA). Candidates must register on the COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) portal before applying.

The selection process for these programmes will commence from May 5 and conclude by June 25, 2026. New students are expected to register by July 21, 2026.

To apply for MTech, MDes, MSR, or MA programmes, candidates must first register on the COAP portal using their valid email ID. After COAP registration, they should visit the IIT Guwahati admission portal and fill the application form with personal, academic, and entrance exam score details.

Candidates need to upload supporting documents including GATE or CEED score certificates, academic transcripts, and identity proof. The application fee is typically ₹1,000 for Indian candidates and ₹2,500 for international candidates, payable through online modes.

Eligibility criteria vary by programme, but generally require a Bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum CGPA of 6.0 on a 10-point scale or 60% marks. For MTech programmes, candidates must have a valid GATE 2026 score.

For MDes programmes, the CEED 2026 score is required. For MA programmes, candidates may need to qualify for entrance examinations as specified by the respective departments. Candidates are advised to verify specific eligibility requirements for their chosen programme on the official website.

Applicants should carefully review their admit cards once downloaded from the portal, verifying all personal and academic details for accuracy. Any discrepancies must be reported to the admissions office immediately.

On the day of the selection process, candidates must carry original documents including their admit card, valid ID proof, GATE/CEED scorecard, and academic certificates. The selection process typically involves a written test followed by interviews for shortlisted candidates, conducted in offline mode at the IIT Guwahati campus.

After the selection process concludes, shortlisted candidates will receive offers through the COAP portal. The COAP Round 1 offer window opens on May 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM, allowing candidates to view their offers and make acceptance decisions.

Candidates must freeze their preferred offer within the stipulated time to secure their seat. Subsequent COAP rounds will follow, providing additional opportunities for seat allocation and upgradation based on candidate preferences and merit.
