Candidates who have cleared CAT conducted by the IIMs within the last two years from the date of application are eligible to apply.
Alternatively, applicants with valid GATE, GRE, GMAT, UGC-NET, or CSIR UGC-NET scores (including JRF or PhD-only eligibility) valid till February 2026 can also apply in relevant areas.
Candidates who have completed a two-year PGDM from any IIM with at least 60% equivalent CGPA are exempted from submitting test scores.
Admission is also open to NRIs and foreign nationals, who will be considered based on valid GMAT, GMAT Focus, or GRE scores along with other eligibility conditions.
How Does the IIM Shillong PhD 2026 Selection Process Work?
The selection process starts with online application submission, where candidates must include a tentative research proposal describing the proposed research problem.
Based on academic profile and research proposal, shortlisted candidates will be called for a Personal Interview/Interaction. Applicants can select three preferred interview centres, and the final venue will be allotted by the institute.
Final admission offers will be made after evaluating overall performance in the interview stage.
Mere fulfilment of the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee an interview call. Depending on the number and quality of applications, the admission committee may apply additional shortlisting criteria.
Candidates are strongly advised to go through the official PhD Programme Brochure carefully before filling out the application form.
Candidates who clear the interview round will receive official admission offers from IIM Shillong. Further details related to document verification, registration, and academic commencement will be communicated to selected candidates after the final results.
