The new Pune campus of IIM Mumbai will focus on executive education, capacity-building programs, and research collaborations.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai is opening a new campus in Pune. This campus will begin in 2026 and will first offer short training programs and skill-building courses. The step will make Pune an even stronger education hub and give students and working people better access to good management education.
The plan was supported by Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol, who said it would help both education and industry in Maharashtra. He called it a proud moment for the state. According to him, the link between Mumbai (India’s financial capital) and Pune (a hub for technology and education) will create a strong “knowledge corridor.” This partnership will bring more opportunities for students and also make India stronger in the field of management education worldwide.
IIM Mumbai Director Professor Manoj Kumar Tiwari said the Pune centre aims to start capacity-building and short-term executive training programs from the 2026 academic year. He expressed gratitude to Minister Mohol for supporting the initiative and added that the institute hopes to contribute meaningfully to India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Why in Pune?
Pune is called the “Oxford of the East” because it has so many good colleges and universities. It is also a tech and industry hub, with many IT companies, startups, and research centres.
By opening a campus here, IIM Mumbai wants to build a Knowledge Corridor between Mumbai and Pune. This will connect education, research, and industries, giving students more real-world opportunities.
Why This Matters for Students
The new IIM Mumbai centre in Pune will make learning more convenient for students. They won’t need to travel to Mumbai for certain programs, and the short-term courses will help young professionals and postgraduate students improve their skills and strengthen their resumes.
Pune’s strong base in IT, automotive, and startups will also give students chances for internships, projects, and industry links through this campus. In the future, if the centre expands, it may also start full-time postgraduate or doctoral programs, opening up even more opportunities.
Some important details are not announced yet, like: Where in Pune will the campus be?, Admission process and who can apply, Fees and number of seats. These updates will be shared closer to 2026.
