IIM Calcutta Celebrates 63 Years by Recognizing Achievements of 4 Distinguished Alumni

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta celebrated its 63rd Foundation Day. The event, held at the campus of IIM Calcutta, was graced by eminent personalities, esteemed faculty members, current students, and alumni from various batches.

According to the IIM Calcutta Director, Sahadeb Sarkar, “As we celebrate the 63rd foundation day of IIM Calcutta, I extend my warm regards to everybody and our heartfelt gratitude to the board members, faculty, officers, staff, students, alumni and allied stakeholders who have persistently contributed in shaping the reputation of this institution towards becoming a national asset with a premier level of international eminence and excellence.”

IIM Calcutta's 63rd Anniversary Highlights
 

IIM Calcutta celebrated its Distinguished Alumnus Awards, honouring four outstanding alumni for their remarkable accomplishments in their respective fields. 

This year's recipients were Dr Narayanan Jayaraman (11th batch), esteemed as the Williams-Wells Fargo professor of finance at the Scheller College of Business; Prabhat K. Bezboruah (15th batch), serving as a Board Member and Director at Bokahola Tea Company Private Limited.

Additionally, awards were given to Subir Chakraborty (19th batch), currently, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Exide Industries Limited; and Manjari Sharma (51st batch), an impactful entrepreneur spearheading Farm Didi, a Food-Tech Startup aimed at empowering one million rural women.

Expressing his gratitude, Sudir Chakraborty said, “It feels great to be back to campus. I would like to thank all my teachers today, especially those at IIMC for building in me a modicum of conceptual clarity and a keen sense of purpose. Sadly, many of them are not there. I would also like to thank my parents, who would have been proud to witness this today. And of course, I am thankful to my wife for being my support for the last four decades.”

Manjari Sharma, among the youngest alumni to receive one of the institute's most esteemed awards, expressed gratitude to the jury in an emotional address. She shared, “I'm not certain if I merit this award, but I'm immensely thankful to everyone. IIM instilled in me the ability to dream big. It provided me with my vision, and it's where I also met my life partner.”

Following the awards ceremony, Sudheesh Venkatesh, the Chief Communications Officer and Managing Editor at Azim Premji Foundation, delivered the Foundation Day lecture. 

His speech centered around 'Institutions Building in Modern India,' highlighting the principles and accomplishments of significant leaders and institutions in the country since Independence.

Sudheesh Venkatesh also talked about the founders of institutes like Isro’s Satish Dhawan, Verghese Kurien of Amul, and Narayana Murthy of Infosys. 

Ending his lecture, Venkatesh said: “Institution building cannot be left to chance. It needs design and work. And every one of us is an architect of the institutions we are fortunate to be part of”.
