On Friday, the Orissa High Court issued notices to the chairperson of the National Testing Agency (NTA) in response to a petition seeking intervention against an alleged technical error.

New Delhi: In a significant development, the Honorable High Court (HC) has issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the National Medical Commission (NMC) regarding an alleged case of incorrect result declaration in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
The two-judge bench of Justice BR Sarangi and Justice MS Raman still needs to fix the date for further consideration. It directed issuing notices for ‘ fixing short returnable dates’. The error resulted in the declaration of erroneous results for a candidate who took the NEET (UG) - 2023 for MBBS admission on May 7. After the result was declared on June 13, 2023, a student from the Nayagarh region, who was in the physically handicapped category found out he was not selected.

After this, the student filed a petition in the high court seeking direction to NTA for awarding him the correct degree. With this petition, the HC bench has directed NTA to consider the representation of the petitioner student.
On July 12, the student received an email from NTA stating that he had scored 76 marks out of 180. The email mentioned that Rishi attempted a total of 176 questions, out of which 51 were correct and 128 were wrong.

Further, the student filed another petition to the high court challenging the result issued by NTA. In the plea, the student mentioned that he should have been selected as tallying of his answer sheet along with the answer key provided online by NTA showed of the 179 questions he had answered, 174 were correct.
During Friday's proceedings, Advocate Rajib Rath represented the petitioner and made submissions seeking the court's intervention to correct the technical error responsible for the incorrect result.
