New Delhi: On March 04, 2024, Gujarat University (GU) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chiang Mai University (CMU) of Thailand. Both Universities will organize data exchange, lecture series, conferences and student exchanges under the MoU.
GU Vice Chancellor Neerja Gupta and CMU President Dr Pongruk Sribanditmongkol signed the MOU on behalf of their respective Universities during a trip to Thailand.
On this occasion, CMU has established a Bharatiya Vidya Department while GU has recently announced a full-fledged foreign language department with various foreign language degree courses, including the Thai language.
Key Highlights of GU and Chiang Mai University Partnership
According to GU, the MoU is strategically important since it covers the Southeast Asian region extensively. The MoU will also help GU extend into an international Buddhist circle.
India’s cultural impact on Southeast Asia is part of its civilizational legacy. Reaching out to various counterparts in Southeastern Asia will only make cultural exchanges that much more enriching for students.
When the MoU was signed, GU Vice Chancellor Neerja Gupta was a part of a 22-member delegation that visited Thailand to show and speak about relics of Lord Buddha and his two disciples Arahata Sariputra and Arahata Maudgalayana.
With the ongoing excavations of Buddhist sites in Gujarat, the timing of the MoU is impeccable for both varsities to exchange ideas on culturally-rooted research, strategic discussions, and exchange programs.
