ETS Introduces Revised Exam Format for GRE 2023, Reducing Test Duration

New Delhi: The Educational Testing Service (ETS) has implemented a revised test format for the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE). This standardized test is a prerequisite for admission to numerous graduate, management, and law programs in the United States, Canada, and other select countries.

The adjustments were made to enhance outcomes and alleviate examination stress. In GRE 2023, the test duration has been shortened from nearly 4 hours to 1 hour and 58 minutes.

As per the updated GRE 2023 test pattern, the examination comprises three segments: analytical writing, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning.

The "analyze an argument" section in analytical writing and the unscored segment has been eliminated from the test. In addition, the quantity of questions in both the quantitative and verbal reasoning sections has been reduced.

According to the official ETS website, the GRE analytical writing section will be placed first, followed by the verbal reasoning and quantitative reasoning sections, which may appear in any order after the analytical writing section.

The GRE verbal reasoning and GRE quantitative reasoning sections are split into two parts, with the second part being more challenging compared to the initial segment of each section.
