Key Summary
- Applications Begins from March 1, 2026
- Entrance exam date: May 2, 2026 (Saturday), 14:00
- Further admission details will be released by February 2026.
CMI will offer admissions to a wide range of programmes across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. At the UG level, the institute offers B.Sc. (Hons.) in Mathematics & Computer Science and B.Sc. (Hons.) in Mathematics & Physics, both of which are based on a common entrance exam, with students allowed to choose their preferred course after admission.
For postgraduate applicants, CMI provides M.Sc. programmes in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Data Science, each designed to build strong theoretical and applied foundations.
At the doctoral level, the institute offers Ph.D. programmes in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics, with admission via entrance exam and interviews or through recognized national-level exams, depending on the discipline.
CMI UG/PG/PhD Admission 2026 Eligibility Criteria
For the B.Sc. (Hons.) programmes, candidates must have completed Class 12 or an equivalent qualification, applicable for both Mathematics & Computer Science and Mathematics & Physics streams.
The M.Sc. programmes require an undergraduate degree, with specific background prerequisites: a strong mathematics foundation for M.Sc. Mathematics, a solid computer science background for M.Sc. Computer Science, and relevant exposure to mathematics, statistics, or computer science for M.Sc. Data Science.
For PhD admissions, eligibility varies by discipline, Ph.D. Mathematics applicants must hold a degree such as B.E., B.Tech, B.Sc.(Math), or M.Sc.(Math); Ph.D. Computer Science applicants should have B.E., B.Tech, M.Sc.(CS), or MCA; and Ph.D. Physics candidates must possess an M.Sc. in Physics.
Admission Process
For 2026 admissions, CMI will conduct its entrance examination for all programmes except PhD Physics, which follows a separate national-level route.
The entrance test, previously held across major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, and several others, will continue to serve as the primary selection method for UG and PG courses, while interviews may be conducted depending on the admission committee’s discretion.
PhD admissions follow a more structured process, all PhD candidates must appear for an interview after shortlisting. For PhD Physics, there is no CMI-specific entrance exam; instead, candidates must qualify through national examinations such as JEST, UGC-CSIR NET (JRF), or GATE (Physics) to be considered for further evaluation.
