Arch College of Design and Business Shines at Jaipur Times Fashion Week

ARCH College of Design & Business stole the spotlight at Jaipur Fashion Week, organized by the Times of India Group, with their stunning collection of 32 garments named "The Lustre Stories". This captivating fashion show featured 32 garments, each weaving cherished memories, cultural heritage, and a sense of the future into mesmerizing fashion narratives in different sub-collections. There are 4 sub-collections:
- Godna by Esha Dubey: Esha drew inspiration from Godna, a tattoo art form of the Baiga Tribes. She utilized variations of the prints derived in abstract forms. Women from the Baiga Tribes ink these motifs on different parts of their bodies on various occasions.
- Atibana by group: A fusion of tradition and elegance, this collection celebrates simplicity while honoring our heritage, empowering women to embrace their individuality with grace. The collection is made using handwoven denim by the artisans of the Weaver Service Center.
- Bubble Gum by Devakshi Ladiwal: Devakshi’s choice of bright colors brings a refreshing pop to the fashion scene. The collection, named “Bubble Gum,” pays homage to the timeless nature of bubble gum, a constant in our ever-evolving world.
- Memories of Threads by Anushka Khemani: This fashion collection draws inspiration from pivotal figures in the designer's life, showcasing the profound connections and significance they hold. Each garment is a tribute to these influential individuals, reflecting their unique essence and impact.
The event underscored ARCH's commitment to nurturing young talent and pushing the boundaries of fashion innovation. With their exceptional creativity and dedication, ARCH reaffirmed its status as a leading institution in the realm of design and fashion education, leaving an indelible mark on the runway.
ARCH COLLEGE HOSTS "GENESIS TO REVOLUTION" SERIES PRESENTED BY IIID JAIPUR CHAPTER

Jaipur, 24/11/2023 – ARCH College of Design & Business, an Institutional member of Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID), hosted a captivating knowledge-sharing series, "Genesis to Revolution," presented by the IIID Jaipur Chapter. The event aimed to provide interior and Architect students with valuable insights into the journey of a project, covering the entire spectrum from conception to execution. The session sought to enhance students' understanding of the design process, unveiling both its challenges and opportunities. The event brought 150 students from 10 different colleges across Jaipur, underscoring the significance of such knowledge-sharing initiatives within the design community.
Architect Megha Bhatnagar and Architect Gaurav Bhatnagar as guest speakers, brought their wealth of experience by sharing various case study of their projects to the stage. They discussed the core principles of simplicity, elegance, and context in interior design. Megha Bhatnagar shed light on the myriad opportunities available in the industry for aspiring designers, discussing various career paths within the field. Gaurav Bhatnagar, with a keen interest in environmental sustainability, discussed the rising trend of sustainable interior design, aligning with the current demand for eco-friendly solutions.
Architect Ashish Kala, Chairperson of the IIID Jaipur Chapter, spoke about the various initiatives being taken for interior design student of Rajasthan like 'Dialogue from Within.' In their ongoing efforts, they plan to promote degree courses and education in interior design in Rajasthan through workshops, technical sessions, and this event is a key part of that plan. Looking ahead, there are plans to introduce competitions in this line, providing budding designers with valuable opportunities to interact with professionals.
Key figures from the IIID Jaipur Chapter, including Chairman Ar. Ashish Kala, Immediate Past Chairman Ar. Sheetal Kr. Agarwal, Honorary Secretary Ar. Manish Thakuriya, and Joint Secretary ID Shikha Singh, along with members of the managing committee and Mr. Manan Surana, Assistant Director and faculty of ARCH College of Design & Business, were present during the session and contributed to its success.

During the interactive session, MMU experts Ms. Rachel Kelly, Senior Lecturer at MMU & International Lead for Design, Dr. Patsy Perry, Reader in Fashion Marketing , Mr. Joe Duffy, Senior Lecturer in BA (Hons) Filmmaking and the International Lead for SODA , Dr Rachelle Viader Knowles, Faculty Head of International and Ms Prachi Hajela, Country Manager – India discussed the fast-track journey to international degrees. They illuminated the transformative power of global education, spotlighting its role in cultivating a worldwide perspective amidst today's competitive landscape. The session underscored how international education shapes adept design professionals, attuned to current trends.

Cumulus Beijing Conference 2023

Founder and Director of ARCH College, Archana Surana, who represents India at the Cumulus Executive Board as Vice President, attended the Cumulus Executive Board meeting and the Cumulus Beijing Conference 2023 held at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). The Cumulus Association is the world's largest and most influential international academic organization of Art, Media, and Design, aiming to promote international exchange and cooperation among design colleges in teaching, research, and practice.
Ms. Surana chaired two sessions at the conference, focusing on women in design and fashion & textiles. She shared that only 21% of women are in managerial roles compared to men in the design economy. To address this gap, it is important for women in the design ecosystem to prioritize supporting each other. Good mentorship can contribute to creating an environment that fosters women's leadership in the design ecosystem.
During the Fashion and Textile session, Ms. Surana discussed the Indian textile-based project done by ARCH students, presented during the fashion colloquia using Khadi. Additionally, she highlighted the Atibana Collection made from handwoven denim by artisans of WSC.
In addition, she delivered a keynote session on the Wellbeing of Design at Xiamen University on the southern coast of China, marking ARCH's presence on the international platform. Also, the work of the Communication Design Department's students, including Tsunamika films and graphical posters, was exhibited at the Cumulus Conference themed 'Narratives of Love,' chosen from among many institutes worldwide.
The Cumulus Beijing Conference of the 2023 Cumulus Association was also attended by Lin Mao, President of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Professor Lorenzo Imbesi, President of the Cumulus Association, Ms. Eija Salmi, Secretary-General of the Association, and other distinguished guests, along with members of the Cumulus Association Executive Committee. The theme of this conference is "Narratives of Love," aiming to explore the expression and interpretation of love in art and design from different cultures and perspectives. This annual conference is an opportunity for design educators and institutes to promote exchange and cooperation with the world in art and design education. With a foundation of respecting cultural diversity, it is hoped that, alongside designers and educators from around the world, attention will be collectively focused on the high-quality, sustainable development of global art and design education. Efforts will be made to promote the cultivation of future-oriented talents in art and design.
Arch College of Design and Business Hosts Successful Cumulus Student Talent Camp

Arch College is delighted to share the highlights of the recently concluded "Cumulus Student Talent Camp" at Arch College of Design and Business, held from October 30th to November 4th, 2023. This remarkable event brought together students from seven countries, representing prestigious institutions from around the world.
Exploring Design Identity and Direction
The theme of the camp, "Design Identity Direction," provided a platform for students to delve into India's rich cultural heritage while addressing contemporary challenges in the creative industries. The camp began with a unique opportunity for participants to visit seven prominent industries in Jaipur, gaining valuable insights into the processes, techniques, and challenges within the creative sector.
Design Thinking and Prototyping
Over the course of the camp, students were divided into four groups, each tasked with tackling different design challenges and creating innovative prototypes. They applied various design thinking methods to develop their ideas and solutions.
Engaging Panel Discussions
On the final day, participants had the privilege of presenting their projects in front of the Cumulus Executive Board members. This was followed by an insightful panel discussion featuring esteemed representatives from various institutions, including Sheffield Hallam University, Sapienza University of Rome, Estonian Academy of Arts, University of Lapland, University of Portland, The Design Village, and University of Antwerpen. The panel explored how design can impact sustainability, social issues, products, and communication.

Arch College Presents "Vastra Shastra - The Monument Walk" in Collaboration with Palace School at Jaipur History Festival

Jaipur – December 7, 2023- On the second day of the Jaipur History Festival Arch College of Design & Business, in partnership with Palace School, showcased the spectacular "Vastra Shastra - The Monument Walk". Students from Palace School took center stage, donning garments crafted by the Fashion Design Department of ARCH College. Each ensemble was thoughtfully styled to symbolize the monuments chosen as part of the Education through Monument Project.
At JHF ARCH College of Design and Business took the opportunity to weave the celebration of education through monuments into a dazzling showcase of garments, accessories, and performances - giving rise to 'Vastra Shastra' –the monument walk.
The term 'Vastra' represents clothing, while 'Shastra' embodies armor, seamlessly bridging the realms of fashion, monuments, and history. The event paid homage to four iconic Jaipur monuments - The City Palace, Govind Dev Ji Temple, Kalki Temple, and Isar Lat. The collection drew inspiration from various elements of these landmarks, including silver jars, weaponry such as arrows, bells, peacock feathers, horses, and spiral steps. Ten meticulously crafted garments and accessories were presented, showcasing a blend of techniques such as macramé, hand painting, kirigami, and fabric manipulation.
Archana Surana, Founder & Director of Arch College, stated that this collection not only pays tribute to the timeless beauty of our historical treasures but also underscores their continuous relevance to education. Furthermore, it provides a forward-looking perspective, offering a glimpse into how these monuments and their design will inspire generations to come.
Urvashi Warman, Principal of Palace School, commended ARCH and its efforts for organizing this event and expressed appreciation for the swift collaboration between the two organizations within a short span of time.
21st Convocation Held at Arch College of Design and Business, Jaipur

Arch College of Design and Business, Jaipur, hosted its 21st Convocation, where 150 graduating students participated in the ceremony. Dileep Baid, Chairman of the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts and founder of Dileep Industries, graced the event as the Chief Guest. Professor Sunita Agrawal, Head of Home Science Convener, Committee of Courses Design Studies, Rajasthan, honored the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
During the convocation ceremony, Archana Surana, the founder and director of the college, shared the institution's annual report with the students. The report highlighted the college's and students' achievements, as well as new projects. The event was attended by Arch College staff, visiting faculty, advisory committee members, and other distinguished guests. The convocation provided students with an opportunity to reconnect with old friends.
Exceptional students were acknowledged and conferred titles such as "Best Performing and Innovative Students" based on their performance. In the 2022 batch, Vartika Jain received the Best Performance Award for Fashion Design, Isha Jain for Interior Design, and Bharti Gupta for Jewelry Design. Among the 2023 batch, Anushka Tulsian was recognized for Interior Design, Sanchi Porwal for Jewelry Design, and Bhumika Honeparkhe for Communication Design. The Innovative Student Award was bestowed upon Shubham Bansal for Communication Design and Aashi Mishra for Product Design from the 2022 batch, alongside Jagrati Tiwari for Fashion Design, Dhitriksha Tyagi for Interior Design, and Reeti Patnaik for Jewelry Design from the 2023 batch. Furthermore, Neha Tiwari received the award for Best Performance from Professional Courses in the field of Fashion Design.
Alumni from different states across the country converged in Jaipur to partake in the convocation Ceremony. Arch College, Jaipur, renowned for delivering exemplary design education for the past 24 years, continues to attract students not only from various Indian states but also from overseas.
In the sphere of Design, Art & Media, Archana Surana to represent India at the CUMULUS Global Association

Archana Surana successfully carries forward a legacy of over 20 years as the Founder & Director of ARCH College of Design & Business. As contributions to the space of youth and women empowerment, she has established strong pathways in Design Education, as well as Mentoring, through the Women Mentors Forum founded by her. A widely travelled and noted speaker, she sits on various national and international forums of Academia and Industry. She has been appointed as Dean of Fashion Design Faculty & Academic Council Member of Rajasthan ILD Skills University (RISU), Chairperson- Committee of Honorary Doctorate Degree Awards of RISU.
She represents India on the World Design Platform. She is also elected to the 8th CUMULUS Executive Board (2022-2025). Archana Surana represents India among the 11 countries on the Board. CUMULUS is one of the leading global associations of Design Education, Art, & Research. It represents a dynamic ecosystem in more than 60 countries with 350+ member institutions. Sharing about the process of her selection she said, “356 universities from 66 countries voted & today I am part of the 11 diverse members of the Executive Board, led by Prof. Lorenzo Imbesi.”
The representation of the Archana Surana at the CUMULUS Global Association would bring several opportunities to the field of Design Education in the country. She further added that through this dynamic forum and platform for knowledge exchange and best practices she would be able to bring in committed advocates for the positive role of designers and creators.
Archana Surana said “I am an ardent advocate of the essential and positive role that designers and the Creative Industries can play towards helping shape a sensitive, empathetic, and better world. I would be initiating cooperation and collaboration from industry bodies and fellow higher education institutions of design, architecture, and engineering from India towards this purpose and further strengthen the ‘Women in Design’ initiative of Cumulus, alongside building a mentorship model within the CUMULUS network.”
She has been a Scientific Committee member on fashion research colloquiums and a speaker at various international forums. As a woman leader and social entrepreneur, she is a Vital Voices Lead Fellow, a Rotary Foundation Alumnus & a YUVA ICON awardee at the hands of former Indian President, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
