Mr. Deepak Kumar Pandey is an Associate Professor and the HOD at the NRI Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He holds a BMLT from NRI Institute of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences Bhopal, an MMLT in Pathology from NIMS University Jaipur, along with a PhD in Pathology from Sunrise University. Mr. Pandey worked as a lab technician at Arnav Hospital, and Endocrine Pathology Laboratory before joining the NRI Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He has published and taken part in numerous studies and research studies related to this area of interest. For his effort, Mr. Deepak received the Best Faculty Award in 2022 and the Extraordinary and Employee of the Year Award in 2023.

Being a Faculty of the Paramedical Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

My first responsibility is to introduce ourselves to the students and educate them about their subject. I also conduct classes for them and explain to them the career scope of their domains. When the new session begins, we have to visit the labs to help students familiarise themselves with the tools that they will be working on in the future.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

I tend to establish healthy relationships with the students by having an interaction with them before taking classes. This makes the environment friendlier, thus resulting in them focusing on their lectures more and retaining the knowledge better. They are also able to attain clarity on doubts by asking relevant questions. Similarly, with the faculties, we try to solve their problems by getting involved in their problems and providing them solutions accordingly.

What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain necessary skills?

We provide subject wise lab visits in order to help students know about their subjects and classroom learning in a detailed manner. Our students visit hospitals where we have a partnership. This makes the students know more about real-world scenarios, and the skills they need to survive in them and it makes them ready in order to be part of the procedure for the future.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

We help students by providing them with a holistic education. They learn essential skills apart from learning their subject, as it prepares them for a diverse world. To keep up with industry demands, we have to modify ourselves to provide the knowledge that the industry wants. We are also providing them with additional knowledge, which is a beneficial point for the students. This will help them grasp concepts more easily and be ready to tackle the unforeseen future.

What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education of your department?

There are various challenges that we face trying to update our curriculum. One of our challenges is the language barrier among students. Students find it hard to learn and communicate with fellow students. To tackle this problem, we provide them with extra classes and try to teach the classes in a language understood by all, Hindi.

What valuable advice would like to the students of them to have a prosperous career ahead?

A student should not only focus on their main course and subjects but also look for additional ways to improve themselves. They must gain additional knowledge in order to beat the crowd and be competitive. From learning which soft skills would help them at the workplace to additional courses that can improve their knowledge, students must learn them all. Sports activity is also important to boost their knowledge and health.
