New Delhi: Ashoka University and Université Côte d’Azur, France, have joined forces by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate educational and research cooperation in the field of health sciences.

Ashoka University's collaboration falls within the framework of the 'Franco-Indian Campus on Health for the Indo-Pacific Region', an initiative jointly undertaken by the French Ministry of European & Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research & Innovation.

Emphasizing the importance of such partnerships, Somak Raychaudhury, the Vice-Chancellor of Ashoka University, stated that the alliance with Université Côte d’Azur aims to establish a platform that addresses contemporary health challenges through a multidisciplinary approach.

Further, the collaboration aims to nurture future leaders who will tackle the upcoming challenges. Ashoka University intends to work alongside Université Côte d’Azur to ensure the program's long-term sustainability, Raychaudhury said.

The aim of this initiative is to foster collaboration between French and Indian higher education institutions in various areas of health sciences, both theoretical and practical. Ashoka University, along with the University of Cote d’ Azur in France, the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru (IISc), and Indraprastha Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIIT-D), have come together as a consortium to undertake this funded endeavour.

The consortium, consisting of these four research-focused institutions, will primarily focus on health-related topics, including understanding and developing treatments for diseases such as cancer, respiratory diseases, and ageing, as well as addressing public health concerns like antimicrobial resistance.

As part of this pilot-funded program, the universities will collaborate on research and innovation initiatives, establish a framework for developing joint or dual degree programs, facilitate the exchange of faculty and research scholars, and establish channels for sharing knowledge and expertise. A significant emphasis will be placed on the convergence of health and computer sciences, as well as fostering innovation through entrepreneurship.
