New Delhi: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) recently organised a remarkable Mega Mini Marathon, with over 300 students from AMU schools and various academic departments participating. The University Athletics Ground served as the venue for this spirited Mini Marathon.
During his address to the assembled participants, the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Prof Mohammad Gulrez, encouraged the students to approach life with a sportsman's zeal and spirit. He emphasised the importance of resilience, urging them not to be disheartened by temporary setbacks in their pursuit of success. Prof Gulrez further underscored the significance of honouring the sacrifices of martyrs for the country.
In his impassioned speech, Prof Gulrez urged the students to follow in the footsteps of those who laid down their lives for the nation. He called upon them to actively steer the country towards unprecedented development and progress, envisioning India as a global leader by 2047, coinciding with celebrating the nation's 100th year of independence.
The Mini Marathon was inaugurated by Prof Gulrez, alongside the AMU Registrar, Mr Mohammad Imran (IPS), and Prof Syed Amjad Ali Rizvi, Secretary of the University Games Committee. Prof Naima Khatoon, the Principal of Women’s College, flagged off the marathon for the girl students.
In the boys' category, Mohammad Qamar clinched the first position, with Pushpendra Kumar Sharma and Mohammad Azim securing the second and third places, respectively. In the girls' category, Nidhi Chaudhary achieved the first position, followed by Vaishali Goswami in the second position and Ayushi Choudhary in the third.
The event commenced with a warm welcome from Prof Zameerullah Khan, President of the Athletics Club, and was skillfully conducted by Mr Mazharul Qamar. The judging panel, comprised of Deputy Director Mr Anees Ur Rehman Khan, Assistant Director Mr Arshad Mahmood, and sports and athletics coaches from the Games Committee and AMU schools’ exercise teachers, ensured the smooth execution of the Mini Marathon.
