AMU Organise Online 7 Days Course on Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development

New Delhi: The Department of Wildlife Sciences of Aligarh Muslim University, in collaboration with the Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC-AMU), organised a seven-day online course on Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development. 

The primary objective of this educational course was to create awareness and instigate efforts for biodiversity preservation, transcending the conventional academic domain and accentuating its broader significance within communities and on a global scale.

Key Sessions at AMU Online Course 2024

The inaugural discourse by Prof. Monowar Alam Khalid, from Integral University, Lucknow, provided an all-encompassing overview of biodiversity conservation, addressing the myriad challenges and proposing potential solutions. 

Subsequent sessions featured renowned experts such as Dr Mohammad Shah Hussain from the University of Delhi, elucidating eco-restoration, and Prof. Milind M. Sardesai from Savitribai Phule Pune University, delving into archaeo-botany within cave ecosystems.

Dr Ambrina Sardar Khan, representing Integral University, highlighted the multifaceted challenges climate change presents. At the same time, Prof. Orus Ilyas from AMU explored the intricate nexus between biodiversity conservation and food security. Prof. Richa Kothari from the Central University of Jammu advocated seamlessly integrating Sustainable Development Goals into societal frameworks.

Prof. Susheel Verma elucidated cutting-edge methodologies for conserving endangered plant species at the University of Jammu. Dr. Khursheed Ahmad from SKUAST-Kashmir underscored the delicate interconnections between ecosystems and species.

On the second last day, Prof. A.L. Ramanathan from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, shed light on glaciers and marine ecosystems, underscoring their pivotal role as nutrient reservoirs. Dr Aisha Sultana from the University of Delhi urged participants to contribute to pollinators' conservation actively.

During the valedictory session, participants expressed their gratitude for the enlightening course and advocated for the continuation of similar programs in the future. Dr. Faiza Abbasi, the course coordinator and director of UGC-HRDC at AMU, and Dr. Kaleem Ahmed and Dr Ahmad Masood Khan from the Department of Wildlife Sciences were lauded for their unwavering dedication.
