AIIMS Guwahati Invites Applications for PhD Admission January 2026

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati has started the application process for PhD admission for the January 2026 session across medical, nursing, and allied health sciences. Eligible candidates can submit their applications online until December 26, 2025.

Admissions will be conducted through a two-stage selection process, including a written examination and interview, depending on the category. The detailed admission schedule, eligibility rules, seat distribution, and exam pattern have been released through the official prospectus.

Candidates must complete and submit the online application form on or before December 26, 2025. The application window opened on December 5, 2025, as per the official notification.

What is the Selection Process for AIIMS Guwahati PhD Admission?

The PhD selection process depends on the category under which a candidate applies:

  • Category A (Institute-funded projects): Candidates must appear for a written test (MCQ-based) followed by an interview. The written exam carries 80 marks, and the interview carries 20 marks.
  • Category C (Own fellowship): Applicants with valid fellowships from agencies like UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DBT, or INSPIRE are shortlisted only through an interview carrying 100 marks

AIIMS Guwahati is offering PhD seats across departments such as Biochemistry, Community & Family Medicine, Psychiatry, Neurology, Physiology, Paediatrics, and Ophthalmology. Research areas include cancer biology, public health, mental health, neuroscience, genomics, diagnostics, and interdisciplinary medical research. Separate merit lists will be prepared for Category A and Category C candidates.

Applicants must pay a non-refundable application fee at the time of submitting the PhD application form. Candidates belonging to the General and OBC categories are required to pay ₹1,500 plus applicable transaction charges, while those from the SC, ST, and EWS categories need to pay ₹1,200 plus transaction charges. PwBD candidates are exempted from paying the application fee.
