200 Universities Adopt 4 Year Program as Per NEP 2020 Says UGC Chairman

New Delhi: M Jagadesh Kumar, UGC Chairman shared that approximately 200 universities, public, private, central, and deemed institutions have embraced the four-year undergraduate program in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Certain states have mandated this format for all their universities, indicating a growing adoption trend across the country. Kumar highlighted Maharashtra's leadership in NEP implementation, particularly in establishing cluster universities.

During his visit to Mumbai for the annual conference of Mumbai University, Kumar praised Maharashtra's commitment to effectively implementing the National Education Policy, with the state's universities leading in creating small-scale 'group universities'.

The Mumbai University’s conference celebrated the graduation of over 1.51 lakh students, with 53% female, emphasising the university's goal to rank among the top 10 and commending the increasing number of female graduates, a consistently observed trend except for the pandemic-affected years. State Governor Ramesh Bais said the university's achievement and its focus on gender diversity.
