Colleges Where I Was Accepted

Reason for choosing my college

  • I chose my university because it was in the heart of New Zealand and it was ranked best among all the other universities I got accepted in. Also, I heard a lot of good stuff about Auckland University's Business School.

Colleges Where I Was Rejected

Reason for Rejection

  • No idea what went wrong; I guess I was just too late to apply at UNSW and therefore got a rejection from that university. I applied in the final 45 days and practically there was no time for me to get selected and then apply for visa.

Required Exams for Admission

IELTS (8)

Required Documents For Admission

CV

SOP

LOR

Tips to enhance your application

  • A well-written SOP is very important and all the marksheets of 10th, 12th and undergrad, CVs also play a major role in the university in selecting the application and LORs give you an extra edge during selection.

Admission Experience

  • I chose this country because it was the only one liable to come to New Zealand looking at the economic and various other conditions of other countries.
  • The University of Auckland Business School was ranked as one of the best business schools in the world. Location was also preferably good as the campus is located in the city center. There are decent career opportunities in Auckland after completing the degree, unlike the part-time job market of Auckland.
  • The faculty is really good and the classes are engaging, which makes us understand the concepts properly. We have a huge HIWA centre that consists of all the sports and multiple clubs and societies.

Class Schedule

9

  • There are usually 3-4 days of classes in a week, 2 classes a day. 4 course classes and 4 BCT (Business Communication) classes. Per class, 90-12 mins.
  • The average strength of the class is around 40–50 students and 70–80 in lectures. 10-12 Indians are there in my class, 2 hours every day are enough for self-study and assignments.

Faculty

9

  • 1 faculty member for every 20 students; they are really very approachable and very active on email on off days.
  • Economics has the best faculties, as the classes are engaging and all the doubts are cleared.
  • Sometimes the faculty help in referrals, but mostly you have to find a job yourself. Start applying on Seek and other online platforms as soon as you land in Auckland.

Campus Life

9

  • 4-5 Everything is available on campus: library, sports centre, medical, eSports, accommodations. O-Week, Ausa Club, Indian societies, sports Matches and Toga Party sports are different clubs that are there. The gym is easily available and promoted via cheap memberships for enrolled students; various events and career summits also take place very frequently.

Part Time Jobs

  • 23.5 per hour is base pay so everyone gets it if they have a job. It is very difficult to find a job.
  • There are two options to get a part-time job: Walk-ins and Online Applications
  • Either is very difficult and has a really low success rate as there is a lot of competition; the only thing that can get you a job is networking and contacts.
  • 50% of the students get part-time jobs, although the market is really tough right now and it is very difficult to find a job right now.
  • 23.5 per hour; this is the base pay everyone gets and finding an internship is not easy; you have to keep looking for 2-3 months to end up with one interview call. 20 hours per week is allowed.

Placement

6

  • Almost 50% of the students secure a job within 6 months. 50-60k/year is a normal fresher range through LinkedIn, internships, career Fairs and Seek—the highest can go up to even 100k/yr to the lowest of 30k/yr.
  • For finding a job, you need to start building your LinkedIn profile and connections as soon as you start with your course.

Accommodation

Off Campus
5

  • I got my initial accommodation through an agent but that wasn't a very good place to live. Empire Apartments have very small rooms and high rent; please avoid such places. The management of my apartment was really bad and the rent was very high. There were small rooms, a small kitchen and a small toilet. I would recommend opting for university accommodation for the first quarter and then you can easily get a private place here itself through trademe.com.
