Required Exams for Admission
My experience at the University so far has been excellent. I have been involved in both teaching activities and research, both of which have been a rewarding experience for me.
Course Curriculum
There is no course curriculum for a PhD degree. The research conducted at the university deals with novel breakthroughs in the respective fields.
Faculty
The faculty and staff are extremely humble, approachable and friendly. Most of the lecturers and professors are well-known in their field and are up to date with recent advancements in their areas of expertise. The tutors are very helpful as well.
Campus Life
There are several clubs at the university. There are ample opportunities for a vast range of extracurricular activities, from sports to coding. Each campus has a separate library. The entire UoA campus has a centralized wifi facility.
Placement
Researchers generally go for post-docs and lectureship opportunities after completing their PhD. However, in general, there are ample placement opportunities, career fairs that are organized by the University which sees a huge number of recruiters every year.
Accommodation
The University accommodation is fully equipped with all necessary amenities and charges a weekly rate of 300 NZD, which includes water bills, electricity bills, and access to the gym. There are options for both sharing and single accommodation.
Exams
My TOEFL Score: 105; Required TOEFL Score: 90 The PhD process is a more holistic selection process and depends on other factors like research experience and papers published. I had to submit a research proposal, two LoRs, and a CV. A clear idea about the direction of the research, its aims and objectives, and expected outcomes should be mentioned in the research proposal. The recommenders should clearly state why the candidate is a good fit for the role and how their experience would help them in this endeavour. Interview round: Appeared for an interview with my prospective supervisor, who tested my research skills through a proposal writing assignment. It is recommended to be thorough about the project that you are supposed to work for. Also, be clear about your past experience as you might be asked as to how your past experience would benefit you in this program.
Fees
For a PhD course, the tuition fee is 7000 NZD per year.
Scholarship
HRC Research scholarship amounting to 30,000 NZD per year and tuition fees remission. No separate application was required for scholarship.
