Maastricht University (UM) admits students for two intakes per year. The September intake serves as the primary intake, and a limited number of programs are also available in the February intake. The university does not operate on a single annual intake model, and admission timelines vary by program. Applications are submitted through Studielink, followed by completion of requirements in Maastricht University’s MyApplication portal.
The deadlines for the upcoming September intake are:
- UG admission deadlines: 1 April 2026
- PG admission deadlines: 1 May 2026
- Admission Application Submission via MyApplication Portal: 31 August 2026
Admission requirements at Maastricht University differ by program. Undergraduate applicants are expected to have completed Class 12 (CBSE or ISC) with the required grades in relevant subjects, while state board qualifications are assessed individually. Graduate applicants must hold a recognised bachelor’s degree with strong academic performance. English language proficiency requirements are program-specific, with accepted tests including IELTS, TOEFL, and Cambridge English.
Applicants are required to submit official academic transcripts, motivation letters or statements of purpose, CVs, proof of subject prerequisites (such as mathematics or statistics), and language test scores as part of the admission evaluation process.

Maastricht University Application Process
The application and enrolment process consists of three phases.
- Studielink application
- Admission
- Enrolment
Studentlink Application: To begin your application, you must first apply through Studielink, the Dutch central platform that manages applications and enrolments for higher education institutions in the Netherlands. In Studielink, you select the study program at Maastricht University (UM) you wish to apply for. Choose your intended start intake (September or February), enter details of your prior education, and provide any additional required information.
Studielink offers two methods of signing in: with or without using DigiD:
- If you live in a Dutch municipality, registration is only possible using DigiD. If you do not yet have a DigiD, you must first apply for one.
DigiD = Digital Identity (It’s the Netherlands’ official digital identification system.)
- International students can register by creating a Studielink account without DigiD. In this case, Maastricht University (UM) will verify your personal details separately.
Note: Within 24 hours of submitting your application in Studielink, you will receive an email from Maastricht University (UM) containing your username/UM student number and a link to set your password. These details can be used to access the MyApplication portal.
Admission: After applying via Studielink, you must complete your application in the MyApplication portal, where you upload required documents and track your application status. Maastricht University will share the login details via email after your Studielink submission.
Note: All application-related updates and instructions will be shared through the MyApplication portal inbox. You should check the portal regularly, as important notifications may also be sent to your registered email address.
Enrolment: Make sure to pay your tuition fees on time. Otherwise, you won’t be able to start your studies. Before your studies begin, you will receive login details for your UM email account. This email will be used for all communication related to your program and the start of your studies. Your personal email will only be used for application and enrolment updates.

Maastricht University Visa Requirements for Indian Students
Students should not take any action regarding their visa or legal residence until they receive an email from the Maastricht University Visa Office. Once a place in the study program is offered, the Visa Office will contact students at their private email address according to the program start date:

- For programs starting in February, emails are sent from late October to early November.
Note: If students are admitted to their study program after these dates, they will receive an email after they are offered a place in the program. The Visa Office email will clearly explain all the steps you need to take and which documents you must submit to prove your legal residence.
Applying for a visa or a study permit?

- Provided 1 year Research Master's programme within 12,000 euros. The Netherlands is extremely international students friendly, and has a cosmopolitan atmosphere. One can stay up to 2 years looking for a job once they complete a research (WO) master's from NL.
- PBL method of learning; individual attention given to students due to small class strength.Got 6 months of time for thesis. Got to and fro help from thesis supervisor.
Dislikes
- The Board of Examiners are harsh and rude, particularly towards the international students. Terrible experience shared by many students. Also industry exposure and placement assistance could have been given.
