International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) fees for Indian students range from RM 71,665 to RM 383,940 total (approximately ₹17.20 Lakhs to ₹92.17 Lakhs) for undergraduate programs, depending on the Kulliyyah (faculty). Postgraduate tuition ranges from RM 23,030 to RM 213,870 (₹5.53 Lakhs to ₹51.33 Lakhs) for Master's programs, and RM 41,534 to RM 63,470 (₹9.97 Lakhs to ₹15.24 Lakhs) for standard PhD programs across most faculties.
IIUM is Malaysia's flagship public Islamic research university, established in 1983, with campuses in Gombak (main), Kuantan (health sciences), and Pagoh. It is ranked #=613 globally in the QS World University Rankings 2026 and is among the top 142 universities in Asia. English is the primary medium of instruction across all postgraduate programs, making it a practical and affordable option for Indian students seeking an internationally recognized degree in Southeast Asia.
Compared to study destinations like the USA, UK, Australia, or Canada, IIUM offers significantly lower tuition and living costs. Most Master's programs cost under RM 35,000 total tuition (under ₹8.40 Lakhs), with total study costs — including accommodation and living expenses — typically ranging between ₹14 Lakhs to ₹25 Lakhs for a two-year Master's.

Currency Exchange Note: 1 MYR = ₹24.01 as of June 1, 2026. All INR figures are calculated at this rate.

Important SST Note: Effective 1 September 2025, IIUM applies Sales & Service Tax (SST) to all international student invoices, as mandated by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. The SST amount is added on top of the fees listed below. Students should factor this into their budgeting.
1.1 What are the IIUM Undergraduate Fees for International Students?
1.2 What are the IIUM Master's Fees for International Students?
1.3 What are the IIUM PhD Fees for International Students?
IIUM's fee structure is divided by program level (UG, Master's, and PhD) and by Kulliyyah (faculty). Unlike some universities that charge a flat tuition rate, IIUM separates fees into components: Tuition, Recurrent (semester services), Mahallah (accommodation), Takaful (insurance), Entrance (one-time registration), and Graduation fee. The tables below show the total payable fee as published in the official IIUM fee schedules (before SST).
IIUM undergraduate tuition for international students varies significantly by Kulliyyah (faculty). The total 4-year fee package — including tuition, recurrent fees, Mahallah (on-campus accommodation), Takaful insurance, entrance, and graduation — ranges from RM 71,665 to RM 111,965 (₹17.21 Lakhs to ₹26.89 Lakhs) for most 4-year programs. Medicine and Dentistry (5-year programs) are substantially higher.
Note: Mahallah (on-campus accommodation) is included in the totals below, as IIUM's official fee schedule bundles it into the total program cost for 8 semesters.

IIUM's Finance Division lists the following scholarship and sponsorship sources available to international students (sourced from the official IIUM scholarship page):
Government & Intergovernmental Scholarships (third-party, not IIUM-direct):
External Indian Scholarships Applicable to IIUM:
Indian students can apply for external Indian scholarships that fund study at international universities, including IIUM:
Important Note: IIUM's Finance Division scholarship page primarily lists scholarships for Malaysian students (PTPTN, JPA, Petronas, etc.) — those are not available to Indian international students. The international scholarship listings are exclusively the external bodies listed above. Indian students should not expect IIUM to offer direct institutional scholarships and should proactively apply to the above external sources before or alongside their IIUM application.

Key Alert: The biggest hidden cost most Indian students miss is EMGS (Education Malaysia Global Services) — the Malaysian government's mandatory international student visa processing agency. All international students studying in Malaysia must register with EMGS, which involves medical screening, insurance, and the Student Pass application. This adds RM 1,500–2,500 (₹36,000–60,000) to first-year costs and takes approximately 4–8 weeks to process. Students should apply well ahead of the semester start date.
IIUM is an excellent choice for Indian students who want an affordable, internationally recognised degree in Engineering, IT, Business, or specialised Islamic/Halal industries, with manageable financial risk and close proximity to India. It is not the right fit for students prioritising post-graduation employment in India's top private sector firms or US tech companies.
Ques. How much does IIUM cost in total for an Indian student pursuing a Master's?
Ans. Most IIUM Master's programs cost between RM 23,000 and RM 42,000 in total tuition fees (₹5.53 to ₹10.09 Lakhs). Adding two years of living expenses (₹4.80–8.64 Lakhs) and setup/visa costs (₹1.00 Lakh), the all-in total for a standard 2-year Master's is approximately ₹11–20 Lakhs, making IIUM one of the most affordable international Master's options available to Indian students.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at IIUM?
Ans. International students in Malaysia on a Student Pass are permitted to work a maximum of 20 hours per week during semester breaks and holidays, subject to prior approval. During the academic semester, part-time work for international students is generally restricted. Students should verify the latest rules with EMGS and IIUM's International Student Affairs office, as regulations can change.
Ques. Is IIUM affordable for middle-class Indian families?
Ans. Yes—a master's program at IIUM with total costs of ₹12–18 Lakhs over 2 years is achievable through a standard Indian education loan of ₹10–15 Lakhs from banks like SBI, HDFC Credila, or Axis Bank under the Education Loan scheme. Section 80E provides full tax deduction on education loan interest, reducing the effective cost.
Ques. What is the application processing fee for IIUM from India?
Ans. The IIUM application processing fee is approximately USD 50 (₹4,200). This is separate from the Entrance Fee of RM 1,490 (₹35,795), which is included in the total tuition package and paid upon acceptance/registration.
Ques. Does IIUM require IELTS or TOEFL for Indian students?
Ans. Indian students who completed prior education in English-medium institutions may be eligible for an English proficiency waiver. IIUM's Centre for Languages and Pre-University Academic Development (CELPAD) assesses students' English at entry. Contact IIUM's admission office to confirm whether your degree medium qualifies for a waiver.
Ques. When are fees due and how do Indian students pay from India?
Ans. IIUM fees are paid per semester via the IIUM EzPAY portal (ezpay.iium.edu.my), which supports Flywire for international payments (recommended for Indian students), as well as credit/debit cards and FPX online banking. Payment must be made at least 2 months after the semester begins. Using Flywire ensures a competitive exchange rate and avoids high SWIFT wire transfer fees.
Ques. What EMGS-related steps must Indian students complete before arriving?
Ans. Indian students admitted to IIUM must register with Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) for their Student Pass. Steps include: (1) submitting documents via EMGS online portal, (2) paying EMGS fees (RM 1,500–2,500), (3) completing a medical screening at an EMGS-approved clinic in India, and (4) receiving the Visa Approval Letter (VAL) before travelling to Malaysia. Allow 4–8 weeks for processing.

The course curriculum is well planned, well managed and updated by the university depending on the requirements of today's situation. Mechatronics is one of the hot stream in today's time. No, I was not given industrial exposure because I was in mix mode course and also there was COVID in between, so due to lockdown also I was not able to explore much.
The tuition fees for one semester in MS Engineering was little more than 5000RM. So for three semesters around 15000 to 20000 RM around. For 1st semester it's around 10000RM that includes admission fees, tuition fees etc. Note: now the fees structure in IIUM and almost every University in Malaysia has changed and it has been hiked more.
