International Islamic University Malaysia admissions are open to Indian students across three annual postgraduate intakes and two undergraduate intakes, with all classroom instruction delivered in English. The undergraduate floor is 60 percent in Class XII for arts and business tracks, while the postgraduate floor is a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.75/4.00 plus an English score above the programme cluster minimum.

  • Next live deadline: February 2027 postgraduate intake closes for international applicants on 30 November 2026.
  • Base tuition + application fee: base tuition sits in the INR 5.53 Lakhs to 92.17 Lakhs range depending on the programme (see Fees page for the exact per-semester rate), and the application fee is MYR 470 (around INR 11,130) for non-science courses or MYR 550 (around INR 13,024) for science, engineering, pharmacy, and medicine.
  • Eligibility floor: UG needs Class XII at 60 percent minimum with IELTS 6.0 (arts) or 5.0 (science); PG needs a Bachelor’s with CGPA 2.75/4.00 plus IELTS 6.0 for arts or 5.0 for science and technology tracks.
  • Acceptance rate: estimated at 30 to 35 percent based on published entry benchmarks, since the university does not release an official institutional figure.

Indian applicants most often target Law (LLB and LLM), Islamic Banking and Finance, Comparative Laws, Engineering, and the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences at the Gombak campus. Peer sentiment on Indian student forums flags IIUM’s English-medium delivery, moderate fee band, and structured pastoral support as the three anchors of the decision — see the detailed International Islamic University Malaysia overview for a full programme picture.

Admission Status: Open. The September 2027 primary intake for both UG and PG opens through IIUM’s eAdmission portal, with the next actionable window being the February 2027 postgraduate intake — deadline 30 November 2026. Application fee is MYR 470 (around INR 11,130) for non-science courses and MYR 550 (around INR 13,024) for science, engineering, pharmacy, and medicine.

International Islamic University Malaysia Application Deadlines and Intake Windows

IIUM runs three postgraduate intakes each year and two undergraduate intakes, with the September intake serving as the primary window where the widest programme catalogue opens for Indian applicants. All dates below are drawn from IIUM’s Centre for Postgraduate Studies and Academic Management and Admission Division per the official CPS admissions FAQ.

Currency note: All INR figures in this article use MYR 1 = INR 23.68, the live rate on 17 September 2026. Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

IIUM’s primary intake for Indian students is September — most programmes open here, with February and June serving narrower postgraduate windows.

International Islamic University Malaysia Eligibility for Indian Students

IIUM sets two eligibility layers: an academic threshold that varies by kulliyyah, and an English proficiency threshold tied to the programme cluster (arts, science and technology, TESL, or Arabic-medium). Both layers must be met before a Visa Approval Letter can be filed for the Malaysia Student Pass.

  • UG general entry: Class XII at 60 percent or higher with subject prerequisites for the target kulliyyah.
  • UG law, TESL, and English programmes: Class XII at 65 percent minimum plus IELTS 6.0 to 7.0.
  • PG Master’s: Bachelor’s degree with CGPA 2.75/4.00 in a related field, or CGPA below 2.75 with relevant work experience.
  • PG Master’s by Research and PhD: Additional research proposal, plus supervisor availability confirmation.

IIUM IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

IIUM offers an English test waiver to Indian applicants who have completed a full prior degree at a university that used English as the medium of instruction. Practically, most Indian undergraduate degrees delivered in English qualify, though the applicant must upload an official Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter from the previous institution. Applicants with strong academic files but no IELTS or TOEFL can receive a conditional offer, then clear the IIUM EPT before registration.

Planning note: IIUM keeps admission offers valid for 2 years, which gives waiver-track applicants a comfortable buffer to sit the EPT after arrival if the MOI letter is contested.

IIUM PG Programs and English Score Minimums

IIUM offers 100+ postgraduate programmes across 14 kulliyyahs, with the highest Indian-student concentration in Laws, Islamic Banking and Finance, Education, Engineering, and Computer Science. Base tuition at the postgraduate level spans INR 5.53 Lakhs to INR 51.33 Lakhs across the full programme length — for the per-semester breakdown by kulliyyah, see the course-wise fees breakdown.

IIUM UG Programs for Indian Students

Popular Indian-student choices include Law (LLB), Engineering, Business Administration, Islamic Banking, and Pharmacy. Base tuition at the undergraduate level spans INR 17.20 Lakhs to INR 92.17 Lakhs across the full programme length.

International Islamic University Malaysia MBA Admissions

The IIUM MBA runs through the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences at the Gombak campus, with two formats — a full-time track for early-career applicants and a part-time evening track for working professionals. Both cluster under the arts-based English requirement of IELTS 6.0 overall.

IIUM MBA Entry Requirements for Indian Applicants

  • Full-time MBA: Bachelor’s degree with CGPA 2.75/4.00, work experience preferred but not mandatory.
  • Part-time MBA: Bachelor’s with CGPA 2.75/4.00 plus a minimum of 2 years of work experience.
  • Interview stage: Shortlisted applicants are invited to an interview with the Kulliyyah admissions panel, typically held online for Indian candidates within 4 to 6 weeks of application submission.

IIUM MBA Application Windows for Indian Students

The MBA opens at all three postgraduate intakes — September (primary), February, and June — with the same deadline pattern as the wider PG programme table above. Base tuition sits within the postgraduate range noted in the PG section; funding options for Indian students are surfaced on the IIUM ranking band and scholarship page.

Key insight: IIUM does not require GMAT or GRE for its MBA — the admissions decision leans on transcripts, English score, and the interview outcome.

IIUM PhD Admissions and Research Track

The IIUM PhD is offered by all 14 kulliyyahs and runs 3 to 5 years through a Master’s-by-Research route or a direct PhD entry for candidates with a strong Master’s file. Total programme fee for Indian applicants ranges from INR 9.97 Lakhs to INR 15.24 Lakhs depending on the kulliyyah.

IIUM PhD Entry Requirements for Indian Applicants

  • Master’s degree in a related field with CGPA 3.00/4.00 or equivalent from a recognised institution.
  • English proficiency at the arts-based minimum of IELTS 6.0 or the science and technology minimum of IELTS 5.0.
  • Full research proposal of 8 to 15 pages aligned to a serving IIUM supervisor’s area of interest.
  • Prior email contact with the intended supervisor is strongly recommended before submitting the online application.

IIUM PhD Application Process for Indian Students

All three intakes accept PhD applications, with the September intake carrying the widest supervisor availability. A structured supervisor allocation happens after the proposal review, and a viva-voce follows once the thesis is submitted. Indian applicants exploring stipended positions should also review the funding routes flagged in the IIUM programme catalogue.

Reality check: Confirmed supervisor endorsement before applying lifts admission chances significantly — an unaddressed proposal is often held for a full semester at the Centre for Postgraduate Studies.

IIUM Application Process and Decision Timeline

All international applications route through IIUM’s central eAdmission portal, which then triggers a downstream Malaysia Student Pass application filed by IIUM’s Visa Unit through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). The full offer-to-arrival sequence takes 10 to 14 weeks for Indian applicants.

  1. Create an eAdmission account at eadmission.iium.edu.my and select the kulliyyah, programme, and intake.
  2. Upload passport, academic transcripts, Class XII or Bachelor’s certificate, English score report or MOI letter, and CV.
  3. Pay the application fee of MYR 470 (around INR 11,130) or MYR 550 (around INR 13,024) for science-track programmes on the eAdmission portal by card.
  4. Track application status weekly; the kulliyyah admissions committee typically returns a decision within 4 to 8 weeks.
  5. On offer, accept and pay the tuition deposit; IIUM Visa Unit then files the Visa Approval Letter (VAL) with EMGS.
  6. VAL processing takes about 14 working days after which the Malaysia High Commission in Delhi issues the Single Entry Visa.
  7. Report to IIUM within 7 days of arrival for the compulsory EMGS health screening and Student Pass endorsement.

IIUM Admission Decision Timeline for Indian Students

Offer letters land 4 to 8 weeks after full application submission, with the acceptance window kept at 4 weeks from offer issue. Deferrals to a later intake are permitted once at no cost, and any conditional offer must be cleared before the semester starts.

International Islamic University Malaysia Documents Required

All documents must be uploaded to the eAdmission portal in colour scans with legible stamps. Translations are only needed when a certificate is not already issued in English; certified true copies are asked at the Student Pass endorsement stage after arrival.

  • Passport bio-page with at least 18 months of remaining validity.
  • Class XII marksheet and passing certificate (for UG applicants).
  • Bachelor’s transcript and provisional or final degree certificate (for PG applicants).
  • Master’s transcript and degree certificate (for PhD applicants).
  • Valid IELTS, TOEFL, MUET, or IIUM EPT score report (or MOI letter for waiver route).
  • Statement of Purpose of 500 to 800 words linking academic history to the target programme.
  • Two letters of recommendation from previous academic supervisors.
  • Updated CV listing academic projects, publications, and any relevant work experience.
  • Research proposal (only for Master’s by Research and PhD applicants).
  • Passport-size photograph on white background, 35 mm x 45 mm.
  • Financial proof covering one year of tuition and living costs for the Malaysia Student Pass file.

IIUM Acceptance Rate for Indian Applicants

IIUM does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Third-party benchmarks place it in the 30 to 35 percent band, based on the university’s stated entry benchmarks and the observed cut-off patterns in competitive kulliyyahs. Selectivity is highest in Medicine, Pharmacy, Law, and Islamic Banking, and lightest in the humanities and Arabic-medium tracks.

IIUM Selectivity Factors for Indian Applicants

IIUM screens on academic merit, English proficiency, and — for postgraduate research and MBA files — the interview outcome. The absence of GMAT, GRE, or SAT gives Indian applicants a cleaner runway than at Anglosphere peers, but the CGPA and English floors are enforced. A prior degree in an English-medium Indian university, an MOI letter, and a well-written SOP measurably improve the shortlist odds.

IIUM Ranking Context for Selectivity

IIUM’s QS World University Ranking 2027 position of #=691 places it 13th in Malaysia, and it holds the #=25 slot globally for Theology, Divinity, and Religious Studies. For a full breakdown across QS, US News, and subject-wise standing, see the university’s ranking band for Indian students.

Malaysia Student Pass Process for IIUM Applicants

Indian students admitted to IIUM apply for the Malaysia Student Pass through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), with the university acting as the sponsoring institution. The Student Pass covers the full programme length and is bundled with the compulsory Malaysian health insurance premium.

The process starts once the offer is accepted: IIUM’s Visa Unit files the Visa Approval Letter (VAL) with EMGS, which takes about 14 working days. Applicants then take the VAL to the Malaysian High Commission in Delhi (or the Consulate in Chennai or Mumbai) to collect the Single Entry Visa, arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and report to IIUM within 7 days for the EMGS-approved medical screening. The final Student Pass endorsement takes 3 to 4 weeks post-arrival. Financial proof for the visa file typically covers one year of tuition plus MYR 12,000 to 15,000 of living costs.

2026 update: EMGS-approved medical clinics now accept an online booking window, so first-week arrivals can complete the mandatory screening on day 3 or 4 rather than waiting for a walk-in slot.

IIUM Admissions Tips and Application Checklist

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at IIUM and the sequencing needed for a smooth Student Pass file.

  • Target the September intake for widest choice: the February and June windows carry a narrower kulliyyah catalogue, especially for engineering and pharmacy tracks.
  • Request the MOI letter early: Indian universities can take 3 to 5 weeks to issue an official Medium of Instruction letter — start the request as soon as you decide to apply.
  • Book IELTS or TOEFL 10 weeks before deadline: Indian test centres run full during September and November, and IIUM will not process an incomplete file without a valid score or MOI.
  • Contact a supervisor 8 weeks before applying (research route): a supervisor endorsement letter attached to the proposal noticeably shortens the review cycle.
  • Order attested transcripts 6 weeks in advance: Indian university admin offices are the most common delay point; two certified copies save a follow-up round.
  • Prepare financial proof 4 weeks before offer acceptance: the Student Pass file needs a bank statement covering one year of tuition plus roughly MYR 15,000 (around INR 3.55 Lakhs) of living costs.
  • Reserve MYR 470 or MYR 550 for the non-refundable application fee upfront, and keep an international card active for the eAdmission portal payment.
  • Accept the offer within 4 weeks: IIUM releases the seat back to the waitlist after this window, and a fresh application resets the review timer.

The February 2027 postgraduate intake closing on 30 November 2026 is the nearest live window, followed by June 2027 and the primary September 2027 intake for both UG and PG. Indian applicants who begin the MOI letter and transcript workflow now stay comfortably ahead of the Student Pass timeline that follows.

Overview

Overall experience in the university was very good, fun , heartwarming, weather is very beautiful, it rains almost after every one or two day and sometimes almost every day. I miss my stay at the university so much, the people I met was very helpful and friendly. We had lot of fun with studies.

Scholarship

Yes I was awarded University scholarship of 5000RM for last semester for having GPA above 3.66 in the 3rd semester. There is a process for it, every semester the application is being released by the university for that first we need to apply for that with all the required documents, then if your application is shortlisted then you need to make a short video explaining why you need this scholarship etc. If your video is also shortlisted then you will receive an amount of 5000RM each for 2 semesters.
