What Students Say
Likes
- Brilliant and very accommodating professors they are always ready to help you guide and also appreciate your work .
- Scholarship opportunities - University of Limerick provides excellent up to 60% university fee waiver even I got 60% off my fee and it helped me cover the education costs very easily.
- Campus is huge and has all the amenities such as Spar and stationary and also BOI on campus.
Dislikes
- There is more emphasis of research in the course
- It is a short program but they try to squeeze in a lot of subjects that makes it quite overwhelming although the teachers are quite supportive
- Not a lot of community programs for international students.
Course Curriculum
- It was very difficult and had a lot of research and assignments and tests , our classes used to be every day from 8 am to 4 pm and some days it would be just project discussions. We had a bunch of classes clubbed with other programs; we used to do it based on the subjects we chose as our optionals. Our batch had 17 students and mostly it was 10 Indian students
Admission Experience
- I applied to 3 and got selected for all three which were UL, UCD and TCD . I believe I got selected for all because I had very good grades and a good profile. I think to get selected, you need to submit a strong lor and a lot of emphasis on your profile. Instead of just showing academics, you need to add relevant experience too, which helps in boosting your profile.
- It was a college with a good reputation and they offered a 60% scholarship so it was very clear to me to chose UL , it was very evident that it really helped in getting my education fees to a decent amount so it was easy for me to just focus on my studies without thinking too much about the fees and loans. Also, UL has an excellent reputation; all the past students had only good things to say about the college.
- I applied to the September intake and I basically based my decision on the basis of fees, program and then the location. The admission process was very smooth too – only 1 month.
- Detailed timeline – 5-10 days applying to colleges with LOR and IELTS score.
- 10 days for the application result and 5 days on the scholarship interview and result this was after I had all my documentation completed a month prior to the application.
Faculty
- We had a good faculty-to-student ratio and we had some great teachers they are so good and their teaching methods were quite easy to follow and they used to give a lot of assignments so you could observe everything they said. I admired my Java and Software principles teacher, as they had so much knowledge and they were willing to go the extra mile to teach and help you.
Campus Life
- Our campus had one location that was in Limerick it had all the amenities: a gym, a sports center, playground and all other facilities such as an on-campus Spar and Bank and also a stationery place. They had the best campus in Ireland; there was ample space for everything and they had a huge library too, which always attracted students to study. All in all, they had the best campus and we had everything to facilitate our education and well-being.
Part Time Jobs
- 2-3 people from each batch are selected and based on experience, the pay rates depend on the level of requirements on average, you get 15 -20 euros per hour and it is only allowed for 20 hours a week for your course and on summer breaks and winter breaks, you can do 40 hours a week. It is very difficult to secure on-campus jobs, as they may require special skills and they may take several interviews.
- It is based on experience; you can get one but the pay may vary byjob type it is roughly 10-15 euros per hour. You need to apply fast and be proactive to see where there are opportunities and apply soon. There is no shortcut to getting a job; the process is the same as anywhere you need to create a cv tailored to the job and apply. There are also some tools you can choose to check your CVs and get feedback on it to have better chances.
Placement
- There were only 5-6 students, including myself, who got selected within 6 months and the rest, it was a longer process , the salaries again vary based on the level of the role and type of experience and can go anywhere between 40-55k per annum and also, they are based on your merit.
- The placement experience is the same: you need to apply through the careers page on the company's website or LinkedIn and wait for interview and the process is usually slower due to the high demand.
Accommodation
- It was decent. it was 900 m from the college so quite near the campus and walkable , it had all the amenities, and they used to provide cleaning services every quarter or upon request so all in all, they had great approachability and they were always there to help. We had onsite people to help navigate the campus on the day of arrival and also staff was there from morning to evening to help with any other issues.
Exams
- I think if you give IELTS or TOEFL , you need Statement of Purpose and LOR you don’t need a cv you can list your experience in the SOP .
- No, the interview was not a part of the application but only a part of the scholarship shortlisting process. The interview was quite good; it was for 30 minutes, and it mainly emphasised the technical skills and how well you matched them to the course.
Fees
- Full fees were 6250 euros after the scholarship and around 4500 euros for campus accommodation this is yearly.
- Rent: 450-500 euros p.m
- Transportation - I used to stay in college campus but it is usually 1 euro around for a 90 mins on bus using the leap card
- Food and groceries -200 euros p.m
- This varies on the accommodation and the amount of cooking you do at the house.
Scholarship
- Yes, there are scholarships, as I got one; only 4 other batchmates of mine got this scholarship. The eligibility criteria vary year to year depending upon the profiles of students and also there is an interview conducted by the Director of the course to decide this. The number is now very, very small it again depends on the University but it is at atleast 4-5 students per batch.
