  • The difficulty level of the courses can vary, but generally, the course plan is designed to be challenging yet rewarding. It often includes a mix of theoretical and practical components, ensuring that students gain the necessary theoretical as well as practical skills.
  • One positive thing about the course is knowledge is imparted from professors with exceptional professional background in relevant fields and the flexibility to choose modules based on interest.
  • One negative thing about the course is that it validates the myth that Indians are attracted to IT jobs as you can find a vast number of them trying to take up courses with no interest in the topics.

Fees

  • Before every semester the students need to pay the semester contribution/fees which basically covers the semester ticket used to travel for free in buses/trains which amounts to nearly 315 Euros but may vary depending slightly on the programme.  The semester ticket(Deutschland ticket) is valid throughout the semester and can be used to travel all through Germany. The fees also include some contributions to student clubs. Since UDS is a publicly funded University there is no program fees as such.
  • The expenses greatly depends on an individual's lifestyle. Student dorms are usually cheaper and set you back by 240-350 Euros whereas WG or shared apartments cost you anything between 300 - 900 Euros on an average. Other expenses include Radio taxes (55.08 Euros), mandatory medical insurance (100-140 Euros), Wi-Fi bill, food and other costs which altogether comes to around 800-900 Euros per month.

  • I think it is quite difficult to find full-time jobs. I am just finishing up my thesis and until now I could only get one interview after applying to so many companies. I think initially we should not set high expectations for salary, especially because we are less preferred than native Germans.
  • Starting salary is normally anywhere between $40,000 and $60,000. Students normally find jobs on LinkedIn.

  • Students find accommodation through online websites: WG-gesucht, Immowelt, and Immoscout.
  • There are plenty of WhatsApp and Facebook groups. No particular challenges while finding accommodation. When booking accommodation while in India, do not pay any fees and just make a verbal agreement. (This is the norm.)

It is a bit tough, but if you have a group of people, then it is still easy to find places. Search on WG-gesucht; it kind of helps a lot. You can also mail the university to check if there are any dorms available on campus.

The Course curriculum is intensive and expects a lot from the students. Students are expected to read research papers regularly and also perform projects and research of their own. The program solely focuses on research, and one would be better off going somewhere else if industrial exposure is a priority for them.

Fees

Approximately 300 Euros per semester.

My course revolves around the aspects of linguistics and extends it to topics like ChatGPT, text-to-speech, speech-to-text and also about the cognitive processing of languages in human brain. The faculty is well versed with these topics and are also well-known in the academia. The course is well structured and there is ample opportunities to explore in this field.

Fees

There is no tuition fees but semester fees is 318 Euros/Semester. The semester fees include the charges for Student services, personal theft protection, travel charges (free public transport across the state of Saarland).

I can not comment much on this, as I have already done with my PhD and one postdoc. When I was a masters student, the course syllabus was pretty vast which helped me to clear all the national level competitive exams and later helped me to earn a good PhD degree.

Fees

For PhD and postdoc I did not pay anything.
