M.Sc in Computer Science and Economics in Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz the first two semesters, the basics of economics are learned (equalization modules). The qualifications acquired in computer science are supplemented by supplementary (specialization modules). In the area of specialization, further courses at master level in computer science and economics are heard. In the third and fourth semester, a master's seminar, the master's thesis and the final examination (final modules) will continue to be held. As a rule, the master's thesis deals with a current research task, which is co-supervised by a lecturer in computer science and a lecturer in economics. There are no tuition fees at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Students only have to pay an administrative fee for registration with university’s students service. For example,  the administration fee of € 337.39 in the summer semester 2023 is used for:

  • EUR 226.14 are charged for the semester ticket (you can use this ticket for public transportation in the Mainz and Wiesbaden city buses and light rail (MVG) as well as in the entire network of the Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV) and the Rhein-Nahe-Nahverkehrsverbund (RNN) within the region)
  • EUR 94.00 goes to the Studentenwerk. The Studentenwerk maintains the canteen, cafeterias, dormitories and various social counselling and assistance services.
  • EUR 13.10 are charged to financially support the activities of the Student Union.
  • EUR 1.60 are awarded to the Student Sports Committee to offer additional sports activities.
  • EUR 2.55 go to the Student Aid Fund. The AStA (General Students' Committee) uses these funds to provide assistance to students in need in case of emergency.

If you apply to study without a preparatory German course - i.e. you choose a degree and subject in the online application - you need to submit the following certificates:

  • An officially certified copy of the passed DSH-2-exam or an equivalent
  • The following are recognized as equivalent of a passed DSH-2:

    • the German Abitur
    • the German Language Diploma of the Conference of Ministers of Education - level II 
    • the Goethe-Certificate C2: Great German Language Diploma
    • the Austrian Language Diploma  - C1
    • TestDaF with the result 4 x 4 or better (2 x 5 and 2 x 4 or better). Please notice: the result 4 x 4 is sufficent for enrollment but we recommend strongly to attend further German courses in order to ensure successful study. Recommended result to study successfully is 2 x 5 and 2 x 4 or better
    • the exam from the preparatory course (assessment test) of a German preparatory college
