The University of Bonn admits international students in two main intakes: Winter and Summer. Among these, the Winter intake is generally more popular with Indian students. The application deadlines for undergraduate and postgraduate programs for winter 2026 intakes are:

  • Bachelor’s: 15 July 2026
  • Master’s in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, and Cybersecurity: 1 June 2026
  • Master's in Arts: 15 July 2026

Some of the widely chosen programs at the University of Bonn include MS Computer Science, MS Physics, and BS Computer Science, among others. The general eligibility criteria for admission are:

  • Bachelor’s programs: Completion of higher secondary education in a relevant field, along with a valid HZB qualification (typically 12th grade + 1 additional year of academic study).
  • Master’s programs: A recognised bachelor’s degree in a related field of study (57.5-62.5%).

The University of Bonn does not officially release its acceptance rate. But as per a few unofficial sources, it is estimated to be around 36%. Admission is generally easier for non-restricted programs and more competitive for high-demand courses.

Since many programs are taught in German, international students must demonstrate language proficiency through exams such as TestDaF (minimum 16 points), DSH Level 2–3, or equivalent. Additionally, some programs may require English language test scores like IELTS 5.5-7, TOEFL 72-100, or PTE 59-72, especially if the course is bilingual or in English.

It was a positive experience for me. The way research can be carried out independently in excellent infrastructure really helped me. Of course, I gained a lot of exposure while being a part of an esteemed university like that in Bonn.

Overall experience is good. My batch happened to be affected by the pandemic, hence social interactions were limited. But otherwise, the university has many social events organized by international club to meet new people. Academically the facilities are good. The research opportunities are good. The course itself may be hectic initially, and takes time to get adjusted to the fast learning curve.

Overview

One thing that I particularly appreciated about UniBonn was the wide range of extracurricular activities that were available. From sports teams to cultural organizations to volunteering opportunities, there was something for everyone. The school also did a great job of hosting events and speakers, which provided a chance to learn and be exposed to new ideas. With respect to academics, the professors were highly knowledgeable and approachable, and the coursework was challenging but rewarding. The campus was beautiful and well-maintained, and there were plenty of resources available to students, including well-funded and state-of-the-art research labs.

Overview

It is a bit hectic. If you dont have a financial support. You have to do a part-time. But as I said the course is very intensive and takes a lot of discipline to get across. Luckily i have found friends who help me get through this.

Overview

I did not go through any education consultant. I just shortlisted a few universities that I thought were providing good education in Germany and checked out their individual application procedures. The Bonn Cologne Graduate School of Physics and Astronomy was one of them, under the University of Bonn and Cologne. I was selected in all four or five Universities I had applied to, and BCGS seemed to be the best choice to opt for.

The University of Bonn does not offer conditional admission. It is mandatory to submit relevant English and German Language Proficiency test scores to apply for admission to any of the programs. The majority of courses at the University of Bonn are taught in German. Therefore you are required to have a minimum of B-1 level proficiency in German for admission.
