Course Curriculum

8

  • The difficulty of my course curriculum is quite difficult as compared to my bachelor's degree in India. As the university is a research university, there are a lot of theoretical courses. There are plenty of practical courses here as well so it's a mix of both, I'd say.
  • Average number of students in our class again depends on the course.
  • For eg, Machine learning had over 70 students but a practical course for Software engineering had like 20. There are some courses which have limits on how many students can register.
  • There are quite a few indian students enrolled here. Around 30% of the students are Indians.

Admission Experience

  • I applied for the following universities:
    • TU Berlin (Rejection – I didn't have my APS certificate before applying.)
    • University of Darmstadt ( Rejection – I didn't pass the evaluation test, as I was quite rusty after 2 years of not studying. )
    • Phillips University of Marburg (Accept)
    • University of Stuttgart. (Accept)
    • RWTH Aachen (Rejection – I didn't have my APS certificate before applying.)
  • I chose the University of Stuttgart, as it is part of TU9. Stuttgart city is also quite developed and has quite a lot of working opportunities as compared to Marburg, in which I was selected. I was able to get a working student job at an IT company as a Systems Administrator after 2 months of coming to Germany.
  • I had to apply from their application portal. Once I was given my acceptance letter, I had to wait for my enrolment period. After that I enrolled in the UNI and provided my APS certificate later.
  • The only criterion was IELTS band 7. Also we needed to have certain number of Credits in each category (maths, Algorithms, etc.; the Info can be found on their site )
  • Overall, the Admission experience was quite nice, as the application portal is nicely made.
  • I applied for the Summer intake of 2024. I was applying for winter of 2023; however, the University of Stuttgart's application date is quite early and it matches winter of 2023 for Summer of 2024 of other universities.
  • Summer is the best time to come to Europe. Winters here are a bit sad and changing countries has a huge impact so I wanted to come here in Summer.

Class Schedule

8

  • Typically you have 2-3 classes in a day. The classes are quite nicely spread and you can choose what classes you want to take and what not. If you plan, you can also get free days as well.

Faculty

6

  • I don't have the data on Faculty to student ratio in my Course. They have enough professors to cover most of the courses.
  • I don't like the teaching methodology of the faculty Members. They have quite high knowledge on the subject but don't know how to teach. I think it is a cultural difference, as German students don't find any issues with the professors.
  • There are quite a lot of Research assistant jobs at the universities that pay okay and are a really good start for someone who is struggling to get a working student/ Internship.

Campus Life

8

  • There are 2 campuses that my University has:
  • The bigger campus is Vaihingen and that's where my Classes takes place.
  • The campus has a Library and for sports, there is a Hochschule nearby (5 minutes' walk from the dormitories) where you can apply for various sports and even gym at a reasonable rate.
  • You have cafes and a big canteen in the Uni as well.
  • Each of the dormitories organises big parties every week in the week of June. There are semester opening parties and Indian nights as well. If you are into big parties, you would not be disappointed.

Part Time Jobs

  • It is fairly easy to secure a Teaching assistant job at our UNI. However, most people would rather find a working student job at an IT company, as that increases your experience as well.
  • The pay range for the TA position is around 400-500 per month, as the working hours are not very many.
  • However, if you can get a working student job, the pay is really, really nice.
  • The hourly wage for a TA job is around 13 euros per hour. Per week you are not allowed to work for more than 20 hours
  • Most students, as I mentioned, work as working students in companies and you can easily get around 17 euros per hour in wages. It was not very difficult for me to get a working student job, as I had prior experience. You can say it can take about 6-8 months on an Average to find a job. For a TA job you get email from professors; for a working student job you have different apps linkedin etc.

Placement

6

  • I don't have the statistics right now, as it has only been a year here. I was lucky to get a job even before completing my studies. The job market in Germany is quite bad currently and many people are struggling to find full-time jobs.
  • The average salary for a master's degree is around 60k euros per annum, which translates to around 3k euros per month after taxes.
  • I was able to get a job at Amazon Web Services. There haven't been batchmates, which I know of, getting jobs.
  • Companies that most people work at:
    • Fraunhofer
    • Mercedes
    • Porsche
    • Bosch
    • Vector
  • Many people find jobs through Internships.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • I chose on-campus accommodation, and that's what I would recommend.
  • I feel my University has the best accommodation system for Students that you can find in Germany.
  • On Average the monthly rent is about 350 Euros depending on what kind of room you get.
  • You just have to apply on Time and you can get into the accommodation pretty easily. I would recommend applying for the accommodation around 4 months before coming here.
  • My accommodation is like a 5-minute walk from the university. Most of the Indians stay in on On-campus accommodations.

Exams

  • IELTS is required or if you have a letter from your university that your degree program was in English. APS certificate.
  • Transcript of your college. You might need to upload each semester's marksheet instead of uploading the final marksheet.
  • Degree, 12th Marksheet.
  • LOR and CV can also be uploaded but it is not mandatory.
  • Interview was not part of the application process

Fees

  • Tuition + Administration fees – 1650 Euros per Semester
  • The Uni collects the fees per semester
  • Monthly Expense
  • Deutschland ticket – 39 euros (for students)
  • Health insurance – 140 Euros
  • Rent – 350 Euros
  • Groceries and Misc - 200 Euros
  • You get around 950 euros from your blocked account. If you use your money wisely, you will be able to save around 200 euros per Month. If you are able to get a working student, then you will be able to save more than 1000 euros easily.

Scholarship

  • I didn't receive any scholarship. I don't have a batchmate who received a scholarship as well.
  • Here is a list of scholarships from the UNiversity's site that you can take a look at:
  • Here is a link specifically for International students:
