Course Curriculum

8

  • The courses were moderate to difficult but never easy. They were mostly a mix of both with lecture and tutorials
  • The positive aspect the time that you spend on understanding the concept and negative effect is sometimes the lack of time during exams
  • You can choose your timings; usually it is 90 minutes per day for two days one of lecture and one of tutorial. It varies from subject to subject.
  • My course had 70% indian students.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to the following four colleges:
    • FAU Erlangen: Accepted/Confirmed admission
    • Saarland: Rejected. Because they needed GRE I didn't have one
    • Uni Stuttgart: Accepted/Joined/Confirm admission
    • LMU Munich: Rejected. The courses from my bachelor's didn't match the exact requirements
  • I think GRE plays a major role along with the grades from your bachelor's; the better your grade, high chances of admission to universities like Saarland and LMU.
  • I though about the location Stuttgart was one of the big cities but still affordable and I really liked the modules in my course as well because they were very similar to my bachelor's.
  • The admission process was very simple, from applying online starting with grade sheets a letter of recommendation – IELTS was not required but I still had it because my Bachelors was in english
  • I really liked the over application process the admission letter came in quickly, i.e., I applied on Feb 14th 2019 and got the letter on March 17th 2019
  • Accommodation for internal students is also provided by the university.
  • The main highlight was people were reachable all the time via email and we had an Indian Student Association with our seniors who made the process as seamless as possible
  • I applied for Winter 2019 right after my BE
    • Applied on: 14.02.2019
    • Letter of admission: 17.03.2019
    • Visa appointment: 09.09.2019
    • Date of travel: 19.10.2019
    • Course started: 01.01.2019
    • Lectures started: 17.10.2019
  • I think it is highly irrelevant to have 350 characters for this, while this process itself is the same for most of the universities and I am not sure what additional details to add.

Faculty

10

  • It is definitely not something I can provide and it is not like india
  • The teaching methodology is simply at a lecture level. It is not the course content but more like how you observe and what is most applicable to you in setting up the background
  • Some part time jobs may be but not in my case or with any of my friends
  • I admire all my computer science professors, as they are very professional and directly address the pain points of the subject, which is highly relevant for the industry

Campus Life

10

  • Two campuses – one in the city centre, which may be a smaller one and the vaihingen one, where most of the courses are offered.
  • It has all facilities from the library, both indoor and outdoor.
  • It also has a lot of clubs and popular events like Campus Beach and Allmand open Air.
  • As my time was during COVID, most of them were cancelled, and these were the only two i was aware of. We also had a big function called Indian Night which is open for all with limited seats

Part Time Jobs

  • Research assistant positions were the most common – it is called Hiwi it pays 450 Euro per month and you are allowed to work 20 hours per week during semester time and 40 hours during semester free time; maximum allowed is also 20 hours
  • It is relatively moderate to find jobs; it is important to upskill yourself and search for jobs right when you start
  • You can use Linkedin and university job boards; it is moderate to find part-time jobs. It is a normal process, starting from creating a CV, Looking for job openings in Linkedin or other university websites. Sometimes department websites also come in handy. It is also important to stay in touch with seniors in case of any openings. I would say the more you apply, the more the chances of getting interview calls. on an hourly basis, you can earn 10 to 14 euros; in some cases, it can go up to 17 euros or more.

Placement

6

  • This is not something I am aware of because each of them has a different graduation date but all of my batchmates are working now
  • The average salary is 50k Euro
  • Usually the students apply via LinkedIN or Xing or others like doing internships and converting it to full time study
  • Bosch is the major company for placements.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • The university helped in finding the accommodation via a website called studierendenwerk
  • The monthly rent can be from 280 Euro to 350 Euro based on the type and location of the accommodation
  • It was quite an easy process for me and it is highly efficient
  • Always apply early as soon as you get your admission and don't wait too long
  • Most of the indian students stay at the same place as mine and it is only a 10 min walk from the campus, as it is part of the campus

Exams

  • The college takes in only your grades and maybe some additional criteria, such as LOR for a minimal percentage
  • As this is a highly competitive course, the entrance is the grades.
  • There is no interview for the course.
  • Documents required: Passport, Grade sheet, LOR (not necessary), CV in Europass format. Declarations to be signed and that is it.

Fees

  • There is a tuition fee of 1500 Euro per semester
  • Semester fees around 300 Euros (including StudiTicket which allows you to travel in public transportation from 6pm to 6am and on weekends/public holidays for free)
  • The course duration is 4 semesters
  • Expenses :
    • Dorm/Hostel: 280 - 310 Euro per month (It kinda increases year to year)
    • Food: 200 Euros per month (if you cook all the time)
    • Other (like eating out/movies/Bowling): 50 Euros per month

Scholarship

  • I am not sure about any specific scholarships for the course but there are things like Deutschland Stipendium that you can apply if you get really good grades, like 1.0
  • I am not sure about the eligibility criteria and others
  • There is also a scholarship called PROMOS which I had for pursuing an internship in South Korea for which I needed to give my - Grade sheet an internship offer from a Korean University and then decide based on the the applicants
  • The scholarship is 450 Euro per month and a Airway airfare of 1500 net (as it was COVID the quarantine and tests were also covered)
