Logistics Engineering: Duisburg-Essen University review

I applied to 5 colleges: TU Munich (Automobile Engineering), TU Darmstadt (Energy Engineering), Hochschule Stralsund (Electromobility), Uni Duisburg-Essen (Mechanical Engineering), FAU Erlangen (Clean Energy Processes) I received a confirmed admission from TU Darmstadt, Hochschule Stralsund, and Uni Duisburg-Essen, and a conditional admission from TU Munich. I received a rejection from FAU Erlangen because the course requires a strong background in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering. As I had a bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, my profile did not fit the requirements I chose this Uni because, it was the only University that offered a bilingual course. The course is 50% in German and 50% in English. It meant that I could improve my German alongside my studies, without having the fear of learning 100% in German. The admission process is really simple on an online portal. You just upload the documents (Transcripts, Language Certificate, Passport etc.) and then you get a reply in around 2 months. The criteria are a B2-level German, at least a 6.5 in IELTS, and a good letter. The overall admission process is quite easy to understand and is really uncomplicated. I applied to the Summer 2022 intake. I started preparing for the German language during the final year of my bachelor's because the course requires a B2-level of proficiency. So after graduating with a bachelor's in June 2021, I gave the B2-German exam in August 2021. I had already given the IELTS in March 2021, and the scores from IELTS are valid for 2 years. I applied to the following universities: RWTH Aachen University – Rejected (The requirement of GRE with more than 180 marks in quant section) Karlsruhe Institute of Technology – Rejected Requirement of higher grade in B.E.) Technische Universität Darmstadt – rejected (Requirement of higher grade in B.E.) University of Duisburg-Essen – Admitted University of Kaiserslautern – Rejected (German certificate least B1) Esslingen university of applied sciences ( Requirement of higher grade in B.E.) The technical logistics course at the University of Duisburg-Essen is very structured. I had a chat with one of my friends who was already enrolled in this course. Also, the city of Duisburg has one of the most important ports in Europe, so the opportunities in logistics are very high in this area. I applied from the official university website. The process is simple. First, you need to create an account and fill in all the information about yourself, your previous education and your work experiences. The main documents that need to be uploaded are a CV, university transcripts, SOP (statement of purpose), letter of recommendation, IELTS certificate and German language certificate. Then after applying to the course online on the official university portal, print out the application form and send all the relevant documents via post to the university. They will review them and provide you with a response in 3-4 weeks. The admission requirement of the University of Duisburg-Essen is IELTS at least 5.5 and a German certificate of at least B2 (the German language certificate must be from a renowned institute, e.g., Goethe or telc). Also, some relevant subjects in your bachelor's and relevant work experience are considered a plus point. Also, you can come to Germany from India as a language student. e.g., I applied with a B1 certificate in India, and then I came to Germany as a language student and then cleared my B2 exam from a language school in Duisburg, and then I got admitted to the course. But to get the visa, the university will provide you with a provisional admit card by which you can come to Germany. I didn't have too many challenges. The application process was easy, and the visa process was easy, so I made it to Germany easily without any support from the consultant agencies. The course is available both in summer and in wintertime. Summer semester starts in April, and winter in October. I started in the summer semester of 2022. I submitted the application in September 2021. I got the admit card in November 2021, and then the loan and visa process took a long time till February 2022, and then I reached Germany in March 2022, and even though the semester had started, I completed my German course in 2 months and got admitted to the course in May 2022. So the admission process is very fast and online. If you have all the necessary documents, you can pay the fees, and within 1 week you will receive your student certificate. This admission process is very easy; you just have to send the mail to the international office with your offer letter for the course and the health insurance document with the fees paid bill to the university. I had received a conditional admission from the University of Duisburg-Essen for my course. The condition was to complete German B2 before enrolling in the program. I had an average grade of 7.75 which was not enough to get into completely English-taught programs. Hence, I decided to go with a bilingual program, which is taught in both German and English. After completion of German B2, I received the confirmation of my admission I had applied a lot to other universities as well but the major reason for my rejection was my average grade of 7.75. Also sometimes if the credits from your bachelor’s do not match the requirements of the master’s, you can be rejected even though you have the best grades. The major reason for choosing this program was its bilingual nature. Since the German language is very important here from a career perspective, the bilingual nature helped me improve my German language skills. Also, the course provides a deep theoretical knowledge of Supply Chain Management which is also supported with a compulsory practical Internship I have to complete in an industry. The admission process here is very simple; you just have to create a login portal, submit the documents requested and just send the application. You will receive the feedback within 4 weeks and if you are lucky, sometime within days. Since the program is bilingual, you have to show your German and English skills depending on the program. My program requested German B2 and IELTS 6.5; however, I scored IELTS 7. Overall the experience was like a roller coasters for me, as I was rejected a lot from many universities, but I just kept learning German language and simultaneously applying to bilingual courses, and here I am finally in Germany, doing great in my academics I applied for the Winter 2022 intake. The admissions process takes around 2 months on average. 1-2 weeks for preparation of requested documents and application. 4-6 weeks to receive the feedback. (Acceptance or Rejection) Then you need to apply for a visa appointment. This can take up to 1-2 months depending upon the applications. I have only applied to this university, but for Masters in three different subjects. For Automotive Engineering, I could not qualify for the language requirement exam; for Power Engineering, I needed to have a background in Electrical Engineering and I am a Mechanical Engineer. Hence, I am studying Technical Logistics, this area is a big hub of logistics in all of europe and logistics has huge potential in the future. Academically all the public universities are considered to be equally recognised. I chose this because of 1) absence of tuition fees, 2) this university is pretty famous for researches about Hydrogen technologies, students can participate in that, 3) location (west germany is an industrial center of europe, plus one can many, many other countries without buying extra tickets), 4) this is not a technische hochschulee, peopl people can pursue PhD, if they will, after completing a master's, 5) relatively newer university I applied for technical logistics in the month of June and the beginning of the semester was the start of October, 2024, and the application lasts till August. For the winter semester, it's best to apply between November and January. Applying is done through the university website. It normally takes a maximum of 1 month to get a reply from the university. However, the university and department I am studying are very old, the exam system is very hard, as you need to pass the exams with a maximum of 3 attempts for a given subject. If you exceed that, you can be ex-matriculated and can been departed back to home country....Read More
