The NCET 2026 (National Common Entrance Test) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for admission to the 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) at central universities, IITs, NITs, Regional Institutes of Education (RIEs), and other government colleges across India. The exam was held on April 17 and 18, 2026, in computer-based mode, with around 73,608 candidates appearing. NTA declared the NCET 2026 result on June 4, 2026 — candidates can now download their scorecard from exams.nta.nic.in/ncet and begin registering for university-level counselling.

  • Scorecard: NCET 2026 result is declared as of June 4, 2026 — 12 days earlier than the 2025 result (declared June 16, 2025). Download your scorecard now from exams.nta.nic.in/ncet using your Application Number and Password or Date of Birth; a printed copy is mandatory for counselling at every participating university you apply to.
  • Counselling: NCET 2026 counselling is expected to begin in June–July 2026. There is no centralized counselling portal — each of the 223 participating universities runs its own admission process independently. Check each university’s official website for registration dates, merit list schedules, and fee payment deadlines.
  • Cutoff: University-wise admission cutoffs for NCET 2026 will be published during counselling. Based on NCET 2025 trends, IIT seats had General category closing scores above 360, while NITs and RIEs ranged from 200–250+. State and central universities vary widely — check each institution’s specific cutoff during counselling rounds.
  • Documents: Keep your NCET 2026 scorecard (printed), Class 10 and 12 marksheets, government-issued photo ID, and category certificate (if applicable) ready. You must apply and submit documents separately at each university — there is no single submission portal.

What is NCET 2026?

NCET stands for National Common Entrance Test. NTA conducts this exam on behalf of NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) and the Ministry of Education. It selects candidates for the 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) — a combined undergraduate and B.Ed. degree where you earn both a subject graduation degree and a B.Ed. qualification in just 4 years, instead of the usual 5 or more years through the traditional route.

NCET 2026 is only the second edition of this exam. The inaugural NCET 2025 was held on April 29, 2025, with 44,927 candidates appearing. In 2026, the number rose to approximately 73,608 candidates — a jump of more than 60%, reflecting rapidly growing interest in teacher education through this route. The total ITEP seats available through NCET 2026 stand at 16,950 across 223 institutions, including IITs, NITs, Regional Institutes of Education, Central Universities, and Government Colleges.

The ITEP programmes offered through NCET include BA B.Ed (for Arts and Humanities students), B.Sc B.Ed (for Science students), and B.Com B.Ed (for Commerce students). These are fully accredited by NCTE and recognised across India. After completing the 4-year ITEP, you become eligible to appear for CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) and apply for teaching positions in central and state government schools.

After 2030, holding a B.Ed. or ITEP qualification will be mandatory to work as a school teacher in India — making NCET one of the most strategically important entrance exams for students planning a teaching career right after Class 12.

NCET 2026 Result

NTA declared the NCET 2026 result on June 4, 2026 — on the same day as the final answer key. Candidates who appeared for the exam on April 17 and 18, 2026 can now check and download their scorecard from exams.nta.nic.in/ncet.

NCET 2026 result is now live. Download your scorecard immediately — you will need a printed copy to register for counselling at each participating university you apply to.

This year’s result was declared 12 days earlier than NCET 2025, where the result came out on June 16, 2025 (approximately 7 weeks after the April 29, 2025 exam). The 2026 timeline — exam April 17–18, result June 4 — gives candidates more time to identify universities, gather documents, and register for counselling before deadlines close.

What the NCET 2026 Scorecard Shows

Your NCET 2026 scorecard contains the following information:

  • Candidate’s name, photograph, and application number
  • Roll number and exam date and shift
  • Section-wise raw scores for all 7 sections

NCET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

You should check the NCET 2026 eligibility criteria carefully before applying. The eligibility is defined by NTA and NCTE. Individual participating universities may also have additional requirements beyond what NTA specifies, so verify with each institution separately at the time of counselling.

Educational Qualification

  • You must have passed Class 12 (or 10+2 equivalent) from any recognised board — CBSE, ICSE, or State Boards
  • Candidates appearing in Class 12 board exams in 2026 were also eligible to apply on a provisional basis
  • There is no specific stream restriction — students from Arts, Science, and Commerce can all apply
  • NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) Senior Secondary Certificate with at least 5 subjects is also accepted

Minimum Marks for Qualifying NCET

NTA does not set a minimum Class 12 percentage to appear in NCET. However, to qualify the NCET exam itself, you must achieve at least the following qualifying percentile:

Category Qualifying Percentile
General / EWS 50th Percentile
OBC-NCL 45th Percentile
SC / ST 45th Percentile
PwD 45th Percentile

For final admission, most participating universities require a minimum of 50% marks in Class 12 for General and EWS candidates, and 45% marks for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates. The university sets its own admission cutoff score from NCET on top of this. You should check each university’s own information brochure for their specific requirements.

Age Limit

NTA has set no upper or lower age limit for appearing in NCET 2026. However, individual participating universities may have their own age requirements for ITEP admission. Always check the admission brochure of each institution you plan to apply to during counselling.

Nationality

Indian nationals are eligible to apply. Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) are also eligible. Foreign nationals may apply to institutions that accept international students under their respective admission policies.

NCET 2026 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

The NCET 2026 exam was held in computer-based mode over two days — April 17 and 18, 2026 — in two shifts. The paper has 181 questions in total but you must attempt only 160 questions. The structure is flexible: you choose your 2 languages and up to 3 domain subjects, and every section has slightly more questions than you need to attempt, giving you some choice within each section.

Section-wise Question Distribution

Section Questions in Paper Questions to Attempt Maximum Marks Nature
Language I 23 20 80 Mandatory (choose 1 from 39 languages)
Language II 23 20 80 Mandatory (different from Language I)
Teaching Aptitude 23 20 80 Mandatory (same for all candidates)
General Test 28 25 100 Mandatory (same for all candidates)
Domain Subject I 28 25 100 Optional (choose from 27 subjects)
Domain Subject II 28 25 100 Optional (different from Domain I)
Domain Subject III 28 25 100 Optional (different from Domain I and II)
Total 181 160 640

You can choose 1, 2, or 3 domain subjects. If you choose all 3, you attempt 160 questions for maximum 640 marks. Candidates who choose fewer domain subjects attempt fewer questions and earn lower maximum marks. Most top institutions prefer candidates who have chosen subjects relevant to their desired programme (BA B.Ed / B.Sc B.Ed / B.Com B.Ed).

NCET 2026 Answer Key

NTA released the NCET 2026 provisional answer key on April 28, 2026 — 10 days after the exam. This was notably faster than NCET 2025, where the provisional key was released on May 20, 2025 — over three weeks post-exam. The faster release gave candidates more time to challenge answers before result processing began.

Candidates had the option to raise objections against any answer by paying Rs 200 per question. The challenge window was open from April 28 to April 30, 2026 and is now closed. After reviewing all submitted objections, NTA released the final answer key on June 4, 2026 — on the same day as the result. Scores are computed using the final answer key only.

NCET 2026 Answer Key: Key Details

Particulars Details
Provisional Answer Key Release April 28, 2026
Challenge Window Open April 28, 2026
Challenge Window Close April 30, 2026 (11:50 PM)
Challenge Fee Rs 200 per question (refunded if challenge is accepted)
Final Answer Key Released June 4, 2026 (Out)
Where to Access exams.nta.nic.in/ncet

What Happens After the Challenge Window Closes?

NTA forwards all submitted objections to a panel of subject experts. The experts review each challenge and decide whether to accept or reject it. NTA does not notify individual candidates about the outcome of their specific objections.

The final answer key incorporates all accepted corrections. Once the final key is published, no further challenges can be raised. For NCET 2026, this process has completed — the final answer key is now available on the portal along with the result.

Use the final answer key — not the provisional key — to cross-check your responses. Scores in the result are computed from the final key after incorporating all accepted objections.

NCET 2026 Cutoff

The NCET cutoff works in two parts. First is the NTA qualifying cutoff — the minimum percentile score you need to "pass" NCET and become eligible for university admissions. Second is the institution-wise admission cutoff — the minimum NCET score a specific university sets for its ITEP seats, which each institution determines on its own.

NCET 2026 Qualifying Cutoff (NTA Defined)

Category Qualifying Percentile
General / EWS 50th Percentile
OBC-NCL 45th Percentile
SC / ST 45th Percentile
PwD 45th Percentile

Qualifying NCET is the first step. To get into IITs, NITs, or top central universities, you need a significantly higher score than the qualifying threshold — these premium institutions have far more competitive closing scores.

Expected Admission Cutoff for Key Institutions (Based on NCET 2025 Trends)

Individual university cutoffs for NCET 2026 will be published during counselling rounds. Since 2026 saw a 60%+ jump in candidates (73,608 appeared vs 44,927 in 2025), cutoffs at top institutions are expected to be higher than 2025. Below are indicative ranges based on 2025 data:

Institution General (Expected) OBC-NCL EWS SC ST
IIT Kharagpur 360+ 340+ 340+ 320+ 280+
IIT Bhubaneswar 350+ 340+ 330+ 290+ 280+
IIT Jodhpur 300+ 280+ 280+ 260+ 250+
IIT Ropar 300+ 290+ 280+ 260+ 230+
IIT (ISM) Dhanbad 280+ 260+ 260+ 250+ 220+
NIT Calicut 200+ 180+ 180+ 170+ 120+
NIT Trichy 200+ 180+ 180+ 170+ 120+
RIE Bhubaneswar 250+ 230+ 230+ 210+ 180+
RIE Mysuru 250+ 230+ 230+ 210+ 180+
RIE Ajmer 240+ 220+ 220+ 200+ 170+

The cutoff figures above are unofficial estimates based on NCET 2025 trends and may be higher in 2026 due to the increased number of candidates. Actual 2026 admission cutoffs will be set by each institution after counselling rounds begin. Since each university conducts its own counselling, there is no single official NCET admission cutoff list.

Factors That Affect NCET Cutoff

  • Total number of candidates who appeared and their score distribution
  • Number of ITEP seats at each university and course combination
  • Exam difficulty in a given year (can shift scores up or down)
  • Category-wise seat reservation (SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, PwD quotas)
  • Course popularity — subjects like Physics, Mathematics, and English tend to attract more applicants

NCET 2026 Marks vs Rank

NCET does not publish an official marks vs rank chart like NEET or JEE. However, based on the total number of candidates who appeared and the score distribution from NCET 2025, you can estimate where your score roughly places you in the all-India ranking for 2026.

In 2026, around 73,608 candidates appeared — up from 44,927 in 2025. This means the same raw score will generally fetch a lower rank in 2026 than it would have in 2025, since there are more candidates competing. Only 16,950 seats are available across 223 institutions, giving an overall competition ratio of approximately 4.3 candidates per seat.

Expected Marks vs Rank (NCET 2026 — General Category)

Score Range (out of 640) Expected AIR (General Category) Likely Admission Scenario
560 and above Top 50–100 IIT (B.Sc B.Ed) — extremely competitive
480–559 100–600 IIT / Top NIT (B.Sc B.Ed)
400–479 600–2,500 Good NIT / RIE
320–399 2,500–10,000 State and Central Universities / Government Colleges
Below qualifying percentile 10,000+ May not qualify; check individual university conditions

These rank estimates are indicative, based on NCET 2025 data and the 2026 registration figures. Individual ranks are visible on your NCET 2026 scorecard, declared on June 4, 2026. Use the table above as a rough orientation only.

NCET 2025 vs 2026: Year-on-Year Comparison

NCET 2026 Counselling Process

Unlike JEE (which has JoSAA) or NEET (which has MCC counselling), NCET does not have a single centralised counselling system. Each of the 223 participating institutions conducts its own admission process based on the NCET 2026 scorecard issued by NTA. You must register and apply separately at each institution you want to seek admission to.

There is NO single NCET counselling portal. You must apply independently at each university. There is no automatic seat allocation based on your rank — you have to register, apply, and track merit lists at every university you target.

When Will NCET 2026 Counselling Begin?

  • NCET 2026 result was declared on June 4, 2026
  • University-level counselling and admissions are expected to start from June–July 2026
  • Counselling dates vary by institution — check each university’s official website for their specific schedule

Step-by-Step NCET Counselling and Admission Process

  • Step 1 — Download Scorecard: Download your NCET 2026 scorecard from the NTA portal. Note your score, percentile, and All India Rank.
  • Step 2 — Research Institutions: Go through the list of 223 participating institutions and shortlist those that match your score, category, and preferred programme (BA B.Ed / B.Sc B.Ed / B.Com B.Ed).
  • Step 3 — Register at Each University: Apply separately at each institution’s official admission portal — there is no single portal covering all NCET-accepting institutions.
  • Step 4 — Fill Choices: Fill and lock your programme choices as per each university’s admission system and include category and reservation certificates as applicable.
  • Step 5 — Merit List and Allotment: Each institution releases its own merit list based on NCET scores, category, course choice, and seat availability. Multiple allotment rounds are typically conducted.
  • Step 6 — Confirm Seat: If you get a seat, pay the seat confirmation fee within the deadline. Failing to pay on time results in forfeiture of the allotted seat.
  • Step 7 — Document Verification: Complete document verification as required — this may be online or in-person at the campus.
  • Step 8 — Reporting and Admission: Report to the institution and complete final admission formalities including fee payment, hostel registration (if needed), and orientation to officially enrol for the 2026–27 ITEP batch.

Documents Needed for NCET 2026 Counselling

  • NCET 2026 scorecard — printed copy (mandatory)
  • Class 10 marksheet and passing certificate
  • Class 12 marksheet and passing certificate
  • Category certificate — SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwD (if applicable), issued by the appropriate authority
  • Migration certificate from the last institution attended
  • Recent passport-size photographs (8–10 copies)

If you want a seat at an IIT or NIT, you need a very competitive NCET score — well above the qualifying percentile. Central University and Government College seats are more accessible for candidates with moderate NCET scores. With 16,950 seats and around 73,608 candidates who appeared, many qualified candidates will find a seat somewhere in the system.

NCET 2026 Preparation Tips

Whether you are preparing for NCET 2027 or reviewing your strategy for the next attempt, these tips help you prepare more effectively. NCET tests Class 12-level subject knowledge alongside teaching aptitude and general awareness — a structured, focused approach across all sections works best.

Language I and Language II

  • Read a newspaper or a good book daily in your chosen language — comprehension speed is key in the Language sections
  • Practice grammar exercises from NCERT Class 12 language textbooks for both your chosen languages
  • Focus on vocabulary, reading comprehension, and error correction question types
  • Choose languages in which you are genuinely strong — do not pick one just because it seems easier if you are not comfortable in it

Teaching Aptitude

  • This section is unique to NCET — you will not find it in most other entrance exams. Start with introductory B.Ed books on pedagogy and educational psychology
  • Study topics like learning theories (Piaget, Vygotsky), classroom management, and assessment methods
  • Solve the NCET 2025 question paper specifically for this section to understand the difficulty level and question patterns
  • Do not ignore Teaching Aptitude — it carries 80 marks, the same as each Language section

General Test

  • Read a national newspaper or a monthly current affairs magazine regularly — 15–20 minutes daily is enough if you stay consistent for 3–4 months before the exam
  • Practice quantitative aptitude and logical reasoning questions to build speed and accuracy
  • Time yourself while solving General Test mock questions — 25 questions in limited time can be challenging without prior practice

Domain Subjects

  • Use NCERT Class 11 and 12 textbooks as your primary source for all domain subjects — NCET paper closely follows the NCERT syllabus
  • Cover all chapters and topics from the NCERT books, not just the popular or high-weightage ones
  • Practice previous year CBSE Class 12 board exam papers for your chosen domain subjects to build speed
  • Choose domain subjects that match the ITEP programme you want: B.Sc B.Ed needs science subjects, BA B.Ed needs humanities, B.Com B.Ed needs commerce subjects

Overall Strategy

  • Start early: NCET has a wide syllabus across 4–5 sections plus domain subjects — begin at least 4–5 months before the exam
  • Full-length mock tests: Start giving timed full-length mock tests in the last 6 weeks. Time management is a key challenge in this exam
  • Handle negative marking smartly: With −1 per wrong answer, do not guess randomly. Skip a question if you are less than 60% sure — a blank gives you 0 but a wrong answer costs you 1 mark
  • Study the previous year papers: NCET currently has two years of previous papers available. Solve both thoroughly — once to understand the pattern and once as a timed test
  • Last 2 weeks — revision only: Do not start new topics in the final 2 weeks. Focus only on revision of weak areas, formula sheets, and timed mock analysis

FAQs on NCET 2026

Ques. Has the NCET 2026 result been declared?

Ans. Yes, the NCET 2026 result has been declared by NTA on June 4, 2026 — 12 days earlier than the 2025 result declaration date of June 16, 2025. Candidates can download their scorecard now from the official NTA portal at exams.nta.nic.in/ncet using their Application Number and Password or Date of Birth.

Ques. What is NCET 2026 and who conducts it?

Ans. NCET stands for National Common Entrance Test. It is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) on behalf of NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education). The exam selects candidates for the 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) at central universities, IITs, NITs, Regional Institutes of Education (RIEs), and government colleges. NCET 2026 was held on April 17 and 18, 2026, in computer-based mode across 177 cities in India.

Ques. When will NCET 2026 counselling start?

Ans. NCET 2026 counselling is expected to begin in June–July 2026. There is no centralised counselling — each of the 223 participating universities conducts its own admission process. You must apply separately at each university you are interested in. In 2025, most universities began counselling within 4–6 weeks of the result declaration. Keep checking each university’s official website for their specific schedule and registration link.

Ques. What is the qualifying cutoff for NCET 2026?

Ans. To qualify NCET 2026, General and EWS category candidates must achieve at least the 50th percentile in the exam. SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD candidates need at least the 45th percentile. Qualifying the exam is just the first step — to get into IITs, NITs, or top central universities, you need a significantly higher score than the qualifying percentile. Each university sets its own merit-based admission cutoff for available ITEP seats.

Ques. How many seats are available through NCET 2026?

Ans. A total of 16,950 seats are available through NCET 2026 across 223 participating institutions. This includes 5 IITs, 5 NITs, 4 Regional Institutes of Education (RIEs), 62 Central Universities, 18 State Universities, and more than 129 government colleges. The programmes are the 4-year BA B.Ed, B.Sc B.Ed, and B.Com B.Ed (ITEP).

Ques. Is there a centralised NCET counselling like JoSAA for JEE?

Ans. No, there is no single centralised NCET counselling. Each participating university runs its own independent admission process based on your NCET scorecard and rank. You need to register and apply separately at each institution you want to join. There is no portal that automatically allocates seats based on your NCET rank. Counselling timelines vary by institution and are announced after the NCET result — typically starting from June–July 2026.

Ques. What is the NCET 2026 exam pattern?

Ans. NCET 2026 was a 3-hour computer-based test with 181 MCQ questions, of which candidates had to attempt 160. It had 4 mandatory sections — Language I (20 questions / 80 marks), Language II (20 questions / 80 marks), Teaching Aptitude (20 questions / 80 marks), and General Test (25 questions / 100 marks) — plus up to 3 optional Domain Subjects (25 questions / 100 marks each). Correct answers awarded +4 marks and wrong answers deducted −1 mark. Maximum total marks were 640.

Ques. What is the eligibility for NCET 2026?

Ans. To appear in NCET 2026, you need to have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) from a recognised board. Students appearing in Class 12 in 2026 were also eligible to apply provisionally. NTA has not set any age limit. For final admission, most universities require at least 50% marks in Class 12 for General candidates and 45% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates — but individual universities may have their own additional requirements.

Ques. How many students appeared for NCET 2026?

Ans. Around 73,608 candidates appeared for NCET 2026 — more than 60% higher than NCET 2025, where 44,927 candidates appeared. The exam was held on April 17 and 18, 2026, across 177 cities in India in two daily shifts. The growing numbers show rapidly increasing awareness of the 4-year ITEP pathway to becoming a school teacher.

Ques. What programmes does NCET 2026 give admission to?

Ans. NCET 2026 gives admission to the 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP). The three main programmes are BA B.Ed (for Arts/Humanities students), B.Sc B.Ed (for Science students), and B.Com B.Ed (for Commerce students).
