What is MP PPT 2026?
The Madhya Pradesh Pre Polytechnic Test (MP PPT) is the state-level admission process for 3-year diploma engineering programs offered across polytechnic institutes in Madhya Pradesh. The process is conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Madhya Pradesh, through its online portal MP Online. Until 2024, MP PPT was a pen-and-paper written entrance examination. From 2025 onwards, the written exam has been formally discontinued.
Admissions are now granted on the basis of Class 10 board examination marks. This change was introduced by DTE MP to widen access and reduce the burden of an additional entrance test on school students. The merit list is prepared from the aggregate Class 10 percentage of every applicant, and seats are allotted through centralised online counselling rounds followed by College Level Counselling (CLC).
MP PPT has been conducted in some form since approximately the year 2000. Over two decades, it has served as the primary gateway for school-pass students into technical diploma education in the state. The 2024 edition was the last written test, conducted in August 2024 with 150 multiple-choice questions across Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. From 2025, the process became fully merit-based, and 2026 follows the same structure.
The scope of MP PPT admissions is significant. Approximately 164 AICTE-approved polytechnic colleges across Madhya Pradesh participate in this counselling, including 60+ government polytechnics and the rest in the private and self-financed category. Courses include Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Telecom, Computer Science, IT, Automobile, Mining, Chemical, and Textile diplomas, along with Architecture.

MP PPT 2026 Merit List
In place of a result, DTE MP releases a merit list for MP PPT 2026. The merit list is the consolidated ranking of all registered candidates in descending order of their Class 10 aggregate percentage. The list is generated separately for each counselling round and updated after every cycle of seat allotment.
How the merit list is prepared: The system pulls every applicant’s Class 10 marks declared during registration and verifies them against the board database where automated linkage is available. The aggregate percentage is computed using the formula prescribed by the candidate’s board, including only the best of the five main subjects where applicable. Applicants are then ranked in descending order.
Tiebreaker rules: When two or more candidates score the same Class 10 percentage, the following tiebreaker order is applied:
- Higher marks in Mathematics
- Higher marks in Science (combined Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
- Higher marks in English
- Older candidate (earlier date of birth) gets priority
Round-wise merit list schedule:
| Merit List | Expected Date |
| Round 1 Merit List & Allotment | June 3, 2026 |
| Round 2 Merit List & Allotment | June 23 - July 3, 2026 |
| CLC Merit List | July 4 - August 12, 2026 |
| Final CLC Merit List | August 13 - August 14, 2026 |
How to check the MP PPT 2026 Merit List:
- Visit dte.mponline.gov.in.
- Click on the Diploma Counselling 2026 link.
- Enter your application number, date of birth, and captcha.
- View your allotted college and branch on the dashboard.
- Download the allotment letter for reporting.
The merit list will also display your overall state rank, category rank, and the round in which you received an allotment.
MP PPT 2026 Cutoff
The MP PPT 2026 cutoff refers to the opening and closing rank or Class 10 percentage at which a candidate secures admission to a particular college and branch under a given category. Because admission is merit-based, the cutoff depends entirely on Class 10 percentages of the candidates who participate in counselling that year.
Cutoffs vary widely between government and private colleges, between metropolitan centres like Bhopal and Indore and smaller towns, and between high-demand branches like Computer Science and traditional branches like Civil. The most competitive branch at Government Polytechnic College, Bhopal typically closes near 90% Class 10 marks for General category candidates.
Factors affecting MP PPT 2026 cutoff:
- Total number of candidates registered for counselling
- Average Class 10 percentage of the applicant pool
- Number of seats sanctioned at each institute and branch
- Reservation of seats across categories
- Popularity of the branch and the college
- Domicile distribution (95% MP, 5% open)
Category-wise reservation that influences cutoff:
| Category | Reservation Percentage |
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 16% |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 20% |
| Other Backward Classes (OBC) | 24% |
| Economically Weaker Section (EWS) | 10% |
| Persons with Disabilities (PwD) | 6% horizontal |
| Female Candidates | 30% horizontal |
How to check MP PPT cutoff on DTE MP portal:
- Open the DTE MP portal at dte.mponline.gov.in.
- Navigate to the Counselling section and select Allotment Result or Cutoff.
- Choose the year, round, college, branch, and category.
- The opening and closing percentages of the selected combination are displayed.
The specific 2026 cutoff data will be published only after the conclusion of each round of counselling. For reference, 2025 Round 1 closing marks at Government Polytechnic Bhopal for Computer Science General category were approximately 87 to 89 percent.
MP PPT 2026 Counselling Process
The MP PPT 2026 counselling is the only route to admission in MP polytechnic colleges. It is conducted by DTE MP in two centralised online rounds, followed by College Level Counselling (CLC). All steps occur through dte.mponline.gov.in.
Round 1 Counselling: Round 1 registration opened on May 4, 2026 and closes on May 29, 2026. The round is open to all eligible candidates regardless of category. After registration, choice filling is done between May 15 and June 2, 2026. The merit list and seat allotment are released on June 3, 2026, followed by reporting between June 8 and June 13, 2026.
Round 2 Counselling: Round 2 is meant for candidates who did not get a seat in Round 1, those who chose to upgrade their allotment, and fresh registrants who missed Round 1. Registration runs from June 9 to June 18, 2026. Choice filling is from June 10 to June 22, 2026. Merit list and allotment fall between June 23 and July 3, 2026.
College Level Counselling (CLC): After both online rounds, vacant seats are filled through CLC from July 4 to August 12, 2026. Candidates visit colleges with vacant seats in person, present their documents, and seek admission based on the college’s local merit list. CLC is supervised by DTE MP, and seat allotment results from CLC are reported on the central portal. A final CLC is conducted on August 13 and 14, 2026 to fill remaining seats before the academic session begins.
Documents required for MP PPT counselling:
- Class 10 marksheet and pass certificate
- MP domicile certificate
- Caste certificate (SC, ST, OBC) issued by competent authority in MP
- EWS certificate of current year
- Income certificate (for fee concession)
- Aadhaar card
- Passport-size photographs
- PwD certificate (if applicable)
- Transfer certificate from last institute
- Counselling registration slip and fee receipt
- Allotment letter downloaded from portal
MP PPT 2026 Seat Allotment
Seat allotment is the moment in the MP PPT 2026 process when each candidate is matched to a college and branch. Allotment is generated by the DTE MP software using three inputs: the candidate’s merit rank, the order of choices filled, and the category-wise seat matrix at every participating college.
How seat allotment works:
- The system processes candidates in strict descending order of merit rank.
- For each candidate, the highest-preferred choice that still has vacant seats in the appropriate category is allotted.
- Once a seat is locked for a candidate, the seat count at that college and branch reduces by one for the relevant category.
- The process continues until all candidates have been processed or all seats are filled.
Reporting procedure after allotment: Allotted candidates must report to the assigned college within the prescribed window (June 8 to June 13, 2026 for Round 1). At the college, you complete document verification, pay the first-semester admission fee, and confirm your seat. After verification, the college issues you a college ID and admission slip.
Documents to carry for reporting:
- Original Class 10 marksheet and certificate
- Original Aadhaar card
- Original MP domicile certificate
- Original category certificate (if applicable)
- Original transfer certificate
- Original migration certificate (for non-MPBSE boards)
- Three passport-size photographs
- Photocopy set of all documents (two sets recommended)
- Allotment letter and fee payment receipt
- Demand draft or proof of online payment for admission fees
What happens if you do not report: Failure to report within the reporting window leads to automatic cancellation of the allotted seat. The seat is released back into the pool for Round 2 or CLC. A candidate who misses Round 1 reporting may register again for Round 2, but the earlier allotment is forfeited.
Allotment options: After reporting, candidates can choose to Freeze (accept seat and exit), Float (accept current seat but participate in next round for upgradation), or Slide (request upgradation only within the same college). Make this choice carefully based on whether you are satisfied with your branch and college.

Top Polytechnic Colleges Accepting MP PPT 2026 Score
Madhya Pradesh has a strong network of government polytechnic colleges that absorb the bulk of meritorious applicants every year. These colleges are typically the most competitive because of low fees, strong placement records, and affiliation with central PSUs. The following are the top government polytechnic colleges that participate in MP PPT 2026 counselling.
| Rank | College Name | Location |
| 1 | Government Polytechnic College | Bhopal |
| 2 | S.V. Polytechnic College | Bhopal |
| 3 | Government Women’s Polytechnic College | Bhopal |
| 4 | Government Polytechnic College | Indore |
| 5 | Government Polytechnic College | Jabalpur |
| 6 | Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Polytechnic College | Gwalior |
| 7 | Government Polytechnic College | Ujjain |
| 8 | Government Polytechnic College | Pachore (Rajgarh) |
| 9 | Government Polytechnic College | Khargone |
| 10 | Satpuda Polytechnic College | Betul |
In addition to the government polytechnics listed above, a large number of private and self-financed polytechnic colleges in MP also participate in MP PPT 2026 counselling. These include institutes in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Sagar, Ujjain, Gwalior, Khandwa, and other cities. Private colleges generally have higher fees but offer more seats, modern infrastructure, and direct industry-tie-ups, making them suitable for candidates whose Class 10 percentage may not be high enough for premier government colleges.
Government Polytechnic College Bhopal is widely regarded as the most prestigious institute in the state. It has placement tie-ups with Indian Railways, BHEL, NTPC, and major automotive companies. Its cutoff for Computer Science Engineering and Electronics & Telecommunication remains the highest each year.
MP PPT 2026 Reservation Policy
DTE MP follows the reservation policy laid down by the Government of Madhya Pradesh for all state-funded technical education. The reservation applies to total intake at every participating polytechnic college.
| Category | Reservation |
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 16% |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 20% |
| Other Backward Classes (OBC) | 24% |
| Economically Weaker Section (EWS) | 10% |
| Persons with Disabilities (PwD) | 6% horizontal |
| Female Candidates | 30% horizontal |
Horizontal reservation means that the percentage applies within each vertical category. For example, the 30% female reservation reserves 30% of every category’s seats (Open, SC, ST, OBC, EWS) for female candidates of that category. The same logic applies to the 6% PwD horizontal reservation.
Domicile rule: 95% of seats in MP polytechnic colleges are reserved for candidates with valid Madhya Pradesh domicile certificates. The remaining 5% seats are open to candidates from other states. Children of central government employees posted in MP, and dependents of armed forces personnel posted in MP, are eligible for the domicile quota subject to additional certificates.
Candidates claiming any reservation benefit must upload a valid certificate during registration. OBC candidates must show a current-year non-creamy-layer certificate. EWS candidates must submit a current-year income-and-asset certificate. Any certificate mismatch or invalidation during reporting will move the candidate to the general category and the original allotment may be cancelled.
MP PPT Preparation Tips
Because MP PPT 2026 admission is merit-based, the most important preparation is to score as high as possible in your Class 10 board examination. The following tips will help you maximise your aggregate percentage and your chances of getting into a top polytechnic college.
Focus on Mathematics and Science. The tiebreaker rules give priority to Mathematics marks first, followed by Science marks. Even at the same aggregate percentage, a stronger performance in these two subjects can move you several ranks up in the merit list.
Master NCERT first. Whether your board is MPBSE, CBSE, or any other recognised board, NCERT textbooks of Class 9 and 10 cover the fundamentals. Read every chapter end-to-end, solve every NCERT example, and complete every back exercise question.
Practice previous year board papers. Board examination question patterns repeat. Solve the last 5 years of MPBSE/CBSE Class 10 papers for Mathematics, Science, English, Social Science, and Hindi. Time yourself to develop exam temperament.
Strengthen weak areas. Identify chapters or topics where you are losing marks. Spend extra time on them through additional reference books, online video lessons, and topic-wise practice tests.
Use MP PPT historical syllabus to deepen understanding. The historical MP PPT syllabus closely mirrors Class 10 Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Use older MP PPT question banks for additional practice. This is especially useful for students who want to compete for the most competitive branches and colleges.
Counselling-specific tips:
- Research at least 25-30 college and branch combinations before choice filling. Do not stop at five or ten options.
- Keep your dream choices at the top and safer options towards the bottom of your preference list.
- Cross-check the AICTE approval status and the latest placement statistics of every college you list.
- Keep scanned copies of all documents ready before counselling registration opens to avoid last-minute server slowdowns.
- Do not wait for the last day to pay the fee. The MP Online portal slows down significantly close to deadlines.
Tips for lateral entry candidates: If you are an ITI holder applying through LTDIPLOMA, prepare on the same Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry topics from the Class 10 syllabus. Several colleges conduct an internal aptitude check for lateral entry students at the start of the second year, even though admission itself is merit-based.
MP PPT Previous Year Analysis
The MP PPT examination has a long history as the gateway to polytechnic admissions in Madhya Pradesh. Understanding its evolution helps current applicants appreciate the scale of the transition to a merit-based system.
The written exam era (up to 2024): For more than two decades, MP PPT was conducted annually as an offline OMR-based written examination. The paper contained 150 multiple-choice questions distributed equally across Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with each correct answer worth one mark and no negative marking. The test ran for two hours and the question paper was bilingual, available in both Hindi and English.
2024 edition: The 2024 MP PPT was held in August 2024 in offline mode. Around 50,000+ candidates appeared at examination centres across Madhya Pradesh. The total score remained 150, and the cutoff for top government colleges in the General category stayed in the 100-120 mark range, while reserved categories cleared at lower scores.
Transition to merit-based admission (2025 onwards): In early 2025, DTE MP announced the discontinuation of the written entrance examination. The official notification cited three reasons: (1) reducing the academic burden on Class 10 students who already prepare for board exams, (2) improving access for students from rural and remote regions who found it difficult to reach exam centres, and (3) aligning MP polytechnic admissions with national policy that encourages board-mark-based admission for diploma programs.
2025 outcomes: The first merit-based cycle in 2025 saw nearly all of the 60,000+ polytechnic seats in MP filled by the end of CLC. Round 1 merit list was released on June 6, 2025. There was no notable disruption from the change in policy, and most colleges reported a smoother admission cycle than in earlier written-exam years.
What the change means for students: The merit-based system places extra weight on board examinations. Students must take Class 10 boards more seriously than ever because both college admission and tiebreaker outcomes flow directly from board marks. Coaching for entrance-style MCQ tests is no longer necessary; instead, board exam strategies and subject mastery have moved to the centre of preparation. At the same time, the historical syllabus remains relevant for understanding the diploma curriculum, lateral entry awareness, and long-term career planning.
