Gujarat PGECET 2026 is a state-level postgraduate entrance test conducted by the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC), Gujarat, for admission to ME, MTech, MPharm, and MPlan programmes in government and private institutes across the state. ACPC closed the Gujarat PGECET 2026 registration on May 30, 2026, and has since confirmed that the exam — originally planned for June 20–21 — has been officially rescheduled; the revised exam date and detailed timetable will be announced on the official portal gujacpc.admissions.nic.in.

  • Revised Exam Date: ACPC confirmed on June 9, 2026 that the Gujarat PGECET exam has been rescheduled from the original June 20–21 dates. The revised exam dates are yet to be announced officially. In 2025, the exam was conducted on July 5–6, 2025 — a similar July window is expected for 2026.
  • Admit Card: The Gujarat PGECET 2026 admit card will be released approximately 7–10 days before the revised exam date. Since the new exam date has not been confirmed, the admit card is also pending. Candidates should keep checking gujacpc.admissions.nic.in for the admit card notification once the new schedule is out.
  • Result: ACPC typically declares the Gujarat PGECET result within 10 days of the exam. In 2025, the result was declared on July 15, about 10 days after the July 5–6 exam. A similar turnaround is expected in 2026 after the rescheduled exam is conducted.
  • Counselling: ACPC will conduct three rounds of online counselling after the result and merit list are published. In 2025, counselling started in the 3rd–4th week of July and ran through August. Candidates with a valid GATE or GPAT score are directly eligible for Gujarat PGECET counselling without taking the entrance test.

What is Gujarat PGECET 2026?

Gujarat PGECET stands for Gujarat Post Graduate Common Entrance Test. The Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC), Gujarat, conducts this state-level entrance exam every year for admission to postgraduate engineering, pharmacy, and planning programmes. It is the primary gateway to ME, MTech, MPharm, and MPlan seats in government, grant-in-aid, and self-financed private colleges across Gujarat.

The exam tests candidates on undergraduate-level knowledge in their respective disciplines. More than 56 engineering institutes participate in ACPC counselling for ME/MTech admissions and around 50 pharmacy institutes accept Gujarat PGECET scores for MPharm admissions. The exam is conducted in offline, OMR-based mode across four cities — Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara (Baroda), and Surat.

One key feature of Gujarat PGECET is the GATE/GPAT exemption. Candidates who have cleared GATE 2026 in a relevant engineering paper do not need to appear for Gujarat PGECET — they directly participate in ACPC counselling for ME/MTech and are placed in a separate Priority 1 merit list. GPAT 2026 qualifiers are similarly exempt from PGECET for MPharm admissions. PGCET candidates compete under Priority 2 for the remaining seats after GATE/GPAT candidates are accommodated.

2025 Admit Card Timeline for Reference

In 2025, ACPC released the Gujarat PGECET admit card on July 3, 2025 — just two days before the July 5 exam. This unusually short gap between admit card release and exam date is a known pattern in Gujarat PGECET. Once the revised 2026 exam date is announced, be prepared to check the portal daily and download the admit card immediately when it goes live.

Gujarat PGECET 2026: Result and Merit List

The Gujarat PGECET 2026 result will be declared by ACPC on the official portal after the rescheduled exam is conducted. ACPC typically releases the result within 10 days of the exam. In 2025, the provisional merit list was published on July 15, 2025 — roughly 10 days after the July 5–6 exam. A similar turnaround is expected in 2026.

Two Merit Lists for Counselling

ACPC prepares two separate merit lists for the Gujarat PGECET counselling process. Understanding which list you belong to is important for setting your counselling expectations:

  • Priority 1 — GATE / GPAT Merit List: Prepared for candidates who hold a valid GATE 2026 score (for ME / MTech) or GPAT 2026 score (for MPharm). These candidates did not sit for PGECET. They are ranked from highest to lowest score on GATE / GPAT and get first priority in seat allotment.
  • Priority 2 — PGECET Merit List: Prepared for candidates who appeared in Gujarat PGECET 2026 and qualified. They are ranked based on PGECET marks from highest to lowest. In case of a tie, the older candidate (earlier date of birth) gets a higher rank.

ACPC first publishes a provisional merit list. Candidates can raise objections if they see errors. After reviewing objections, the final merit list is published for counselling.

How to Check Gujarat PGECET 2026 Result

  • Visit gujacpc.admissions.nic.in after the result is declared.
  • Click on the Gujarat PGECET 2026 Result / Merit List link.
  • Enter your application number and login credentials to view your scorecard.
  • Download and save the scorecard — it is required at every stage of counselling and at the time of college reporting.

Gujarat PGECET 2026: Marks vs Rank

Your rank in Gujarat PGECET 2026 depends on your score out of 100 and the scores of all other candidates in the same branch paper. Since there are separate papers for each branch, your rank is branch-specific — your Mechanical rank is different from your Computer Engineering rank. With no negative marking, scoring higher is always about attempting more questions correctly, not about being cautious.

GATE candidates are in a separate Priority 1 list and are not counted in PGECET rank calculations. Your PGECET rank reflects your standing only among those who sat for the same branch paper of Gujarat PGECET 2026.

Score Range (out of 100) Expected PGECET Rank (Indicative) Admission Prospects
80 and above Top 50–100 Very strong — top government institutes like LDCE and GEC campuses within reach
65 to 79 100–300 Good prospects at grant-in-aid and reputed aided institutes
50 to 64 300–600 Self-financed private colleges; popular specialisations at mid-tier institutes
35 to 49 600–1000 Self-financed colleges; niche or less popular specialisations
Below 35 1000 and above Very limited options; dependent on vacant seat rounds

Note: The above rank estimates are indicative and based on historical Gujarat PGECET patterns. Actual 2026 ranks depend on the difficulty of the rescheduled paper and the total number of candidates in each branch. Official marks vs rank data will be published after the result is declared.

Why GATE Score Changes Your Admission Strategy

GATE candidates occupy all Priority 1 seats before PGECET candidates are considered. At top government colleges like LDCE, a significant share of seats fills through GATE. As a PGECET candidate, you compete for the remaining seats after GATE allotment. This is why preparing for both GATE and PGECET simultaneously is the best strategy — GATE qualification moves you to a significantly stronger position in the combined merit list.

Gujarat PGECET 2026: Cutoff

The Gujarat PGECET 2026 cutoff will be released by ACPC after each counselling round as opening and closing ranks. Since the exam has been rescheduled and the result is yet to come, cutoff data for 2026 is not available at this stage. ACPC published 2025 cutoffs in three rounds — Round 1, Round 2, and a Vacant Seat Round — which serve as the best reference for 2026 planning.

What Determines Gujarat PGECET Cutoff

  • Total Applicants per Branch: More candidates in a branch paper means higher competition and tighter closing ranks.
  • Available Seats: Colleges with a higher seat intake generally have higher closing rank numbers — making them accessible to more candidates.
  • Exam Difficulty: A tougher paper lowers average scores, which redistributes ranks and can shift closing ranks.
  • College Popularity: Government and grant-in-aid institutes consistently see lower closing ranks due to high demand and lower fees.
  • Category: Separate cutoffs exist for General / Open, SC, ST, SEBC, and EWS categories.
  • Round Number: Round 1 has the tightest cutoffs. Round 3 (Vacant Seat) has the most relaxed cutoffs as unfilled seats open up.

Indicative Cutoff Trends by Institute Type

Institute Type Popular Specialisation Indicative Closing Rank Range (General)
Government / Top Grant-in-Aid (LDCE, GEC Surat, GEC Rajkot) Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Rank 1 – 200
Government / State University (MSU Baroda, GEC Gandhinagar) Mechanical, Civil, Electronics & Comm Rank 1 – 400
State / Autonomous University (PDEU, Nirma, DDU) MTech (all disciplines) Rank 50 – 700
Self-Financed Private Institutes All engineering disciplines Rank 500 and above

Note: These are indicative estimates based on general historical trends. Actual cutoffs vary significantly by specific institute, specialisation, year, and round. The official 2026 cutoffs will be published by ACPC on gujacpc.admissions.nic.in after each counselling round.

Gujarat PGECET 2026: Counselling Process

ACPC conducts Gujarat PGECET counselling fully online through its centralised admissions portal. Counselling is open to both GATE / GPAT qualified candidates and Gujarat PGECET qualified candidates. It typically begins about 2 weeks after the result and merit list are declared. In 2025, counselling registration started in the 3rd week of July 2025 and all three main rounds concluded by mid-August. A similar timeline is expected in 2026.

Gujarat PGECET 2026 Counselling Steps

  • Step 1 — Counselling Registration: Register on the ACPC portal for counselling using your PGECET scorecard or GATE / GPAT score. This is a separate step from the exam registration.
  • Step 2 — Document Upload: Upload scanned copies of all required academic certificates and category documents. ACPC verifies your eligibility before including you in the final merit list.
  • Step 3 — Provisional Merit List: ACPC releases the provisional merit list. Check your rank and category details. Raise an objection if you spot errors, within the deadline.
  • Step 4 — Mock Round (Optional but Recommended): Fill your college and course preferences in the mock round. No actual allotment happens here — it is a simulation that shows you where you are likely to get a seat based on current preferences of other candidates. Use this to refine your actual choices.
  • Step 5 — Round 1 Choice Filling: Fill and lock your preferences for college and course combinations in order of priority. Once locked, choices cannot be changed for that round. Think carefully before locking.
  • Step 6 — Round 1 Seat Allotment: ACPC releases the Round 1 allotment result. If you receive a seat, pay the token tuition fee of ₹2,000 online within the specified deadline to confirm. Failure to pay automatically cancels your allotment.
  • Step 7 — Rounds 2 and 3: If you want to upgrade to a better college or specialisation, or if you were not allotted a seat in Round 1, participate in subsequent rounds. Round 3 fills vacant seats and generally has more relaxed cutoffs.
  • Step 8 — Reporting to College: After the last round, report to your allotted institute with all original documents for verification. Pay the balance tuition fee and complete the final admission formalities.

Gujarat PGECET 2026: Preparation Tips

Since Gujarat PGECET 2026 has been rescheduled and new dates are awaited, registered candidates now have additional time to prepare. Use this extended period to build stronger fundamentals, practise more papers, and arrive at the exam in a better state of readiness than you would have been on the original June 20–21 dates.

  • Start with the Official Syllabus: Download the Gujarat PGECET 2026 syllabus from gujacpc.admissions.nic.in. Every topic listed is testable. Mark topics off as you complete them — a checklist approach keeps preparation structured and prevents important areas from being skipped.
  • Prioritise Engineering Mathematics: This section carries predictable, recurring topics and appears in every engineering paper. Linear Algebra, Probability, Differential Equations, and Calculus are the highest-yield areas. Mastering Maths can contribute 15–20 marks with relatively focused revision, independent of your core branch.
  • Solve Previous Year Gujarat PGECET Papers: Papers from 2019 to 2025 are available. Solving these gives you a clear picture of question types, difficulty level, topic frequency, and how marks are distributed between Engineering Mathematics and core subjects. Aim for at least 5 years of your branch paper under timed conditions.
  • Attempt Every Question — No Negative Marking: There is no penalty for wrong answers. A blank question and a wrong answer both score zero. Always mark an answer for every question, even if you are guessing. On a 100-question paper, intelligent elimination of options and guessing on uncertain questions materially improves your total score.
  • Practise OMR Marking: Gujarat PGECET uses OMR sheets. Practise marking answers clearly with a black ballpoint pen during mock tests. One stray mark or a double-marked answer can invalidate the question in the optical scan — precision matters here.
  • Time Management — 54 Seconds per Question: You get 90 minutes for 100 questions in engineering papers — around 54 seconds per question on average. Start with your strongest topics to secure easy marks early, then return to harder questions. Avoid spending more than 2 minutes on any single question during practice.
  • Use GATE Study Material: The Gujarat PGECET syllabus closely mirrors the GATE syllabus for your branch. Standard GATE preparation books, mock tests, and previous GATE papers are highly relevant. If you have been preparing for GATE, your study directly covers Gujarat PGECET content — you do not need a separate study plan for both.
  • Consider a Dual GATE + PGECET Strategy: GATE qualification moves you to Priority 1 in the ACPC merit list, which means significantly better access to government college seats. Given the syllabus overlap, preparing for both is an efficient use of time. A good GATE score can open far more options than PGECET alone.
  • Full-Length Mock Tests: In the weeks before the revised exam, take full-length mock tests under timed conditions. Simulating exam pressure builds stamina, improves accuracy under time constraints, and reveals weak areas you can still address before exam day.
  • Stay Updated on Revised Exam Date: Check gujacpc.admissions.nic.in at least 2–3 times a week for the revised exam schedule. Once the new date is announced, the admit card will follow within a week — be ready to download it immediately and arrange your travel to the exam city in advance.

Ques. Is GATE score valid for Gujarat PGECET 2026 counselling?

Ans. Yes. GATE 2026 qualified candidates in the relevant engineering paper are fully exempt from Gujarat PGECET and can directly register for ACPC counselling for ME / MTech admissions. They are placed in Priority 1 in the combined merit list, meaning they rank above all PGECET candidates. GPAT 2026 qualifiers are similarly directly eligible for MPharm counselling without sitting for PGECET.

Ques. What is the eligibility for Gujarat PGECET 2026?

Ans. For ME / MTech, you need a BE / BTech degree with at least 50% marks (45% for SC / ST / SEBC / EWS). For MPharm, you need a BPharm degree with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories). Final-year BE / BTech / BPharm students can apply provisionally. There is no age limit. GATE / GPAT qualified candidates are exempt from the exam and can register directly for ACPC counselling.

Ques. Is there negative marking in Gujarat PGECET 2026?

Ans. No, there is no negative marking in Gujarat PGECET 2026. Each correct answer earns +1 mark. A wrong answer or an unattempted question gets 0 marks. Since there is zero penalty for wrong answers, you should attempt all 100 questions — never leave any question blank. Guessing increases your expected score; leaving a question blank does not.

Ques. What is the application fee for Gujarat PGECET 2026?

Ans. The Gujarat PGECET 2026 application fee is ₹1,000 for all categories. It is the same regardless of whether you belong to General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS, or SEBC. Payment is online only and non-refundable. The 2026 registration window has already closed — it was open from May 15 to May 30, 2026.

Ques. How many rounds of counselling does ACPC conduct for Gujarat PGECET?

Ans. ACPC conducts three main rounds of online counselling — Round 1, Round 2, and a Round 3 for vacant seats — along with an optional mock round before Round 1. The mock round helps you understand likely seat allotment before you lock your actual choices. A token fee of ₹2,000 must be paid online when confirming a seat in any round. Failure to pay within the deadline automatically cancels the allotment.

Ques. In which cities is Gujarat PGECET 2026 conducted?

Ans. Gujarat PGECET 2026 is conducted in four cities — Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara (Baroda), and Surat. You choose your preferred exam city during the registration process, subject to slot availability at that centre. The assigned exam centre address and timing are printed on your admit card.
