M. Tech. in Textile Technology: What is it About?

Textile Technology/ Engineering is a study of textile processing and its production. The engineering course is a combination of advanced principles of engineering and specific knowledge of textile equipment and processes. This field of engineering uses concepts and methods from several other branches of engineering such as chemical, instrumentation, computer, structural, electronic, and mechanical engineering.

The course involves the application of scientific and engineering principles to the design and control related to all aspects of fiber, textile, and apparel processes, their related products, and machinery. These include natural and man-made materials, processing of materials with machines, safety and health, energy conservation, waste management, and pollution control. This field provides a wide scope for research as the industry keeps on evolving rapidly and developing new products.

As per the usage of textiles, they are categorized into four main categories:

  • Technical Textiles - protective clothing designed especially for astronauts such as firefighting suits
  • Medical Textiles – medical items like sutures, orthopedic implants, vascular grafts, artificial ligaments, artificial tendons, heart valves, and artificial skins.
  • Agro- Textiles – clothing items that protect the farmers and agricultural engineers from the harmful effects of soil and pollution
  • Geo Textiles – protecting workmen during construction work

M. Tech. in Textile Technology: Who Should Opt?

Aspiring eligible candidates with basic knowledge of and interest in textile production such as spinning, weaving, processing, testing, etc., and proficiency in Mathematics, Science, and Technology, are ideally suited for the course. Such candidates would also ideally have an aptitude for understanding different textile materials such as dyes and the production of textiles.

Course Duration

The course is spread over 2 years and 4 semesters, with the first year offering theoretical knowledge and practical experience, while the last year mainly focuses on dissertation and project submission.

Course Curriculum Overview

I choose this course because I have done my b. Tech course in textile engineering so I preferred to pursue m. Tech course in textile engineering also. Faculty of my course is very Experienced and well qualified too. Some of professors also had abroad phd degrees and other qualifications also. It's academics evolution methods are very sharp and timely doing. So we are happy for that.

Placement Experience

In IIT campus campus placement is best. Around everyone got job in this campus. In my textile department lots of companies are visits like Vardhman textile lmt. Himatsighka, Trident textile lmt, Reliance textile lmt, BMD, SRF etc. Around 100% placement our department.

Campus Life

The annual fest at IIT Delhi is Rendezvous, a cultural fest that is very famous in India and is around 4 days long fest in which many events, participants and artists from many countries come to take part. The library at IIT Delhi is 3 floor centralized air conditioned which is opened round the clock 24*7. The collections of books and journals at IIT Delhi central library is very rich and has almost all books available. The lecture hall complex at IIT Delhi is also very good fully AC with all rooms equipped with projectors. The social life at IITD is also very good and has almost every games including the cricket ground, football ground, basketball and hockey ground and also all indoor games.

Placement Experience

The placements at IIT Delhi are amongst the highest in the country and are very good. The students in the final year are eligible to sit at placements and have to register themselves at OCS (offer of career services), IIT Delhi. About 85-90% of the students registering for placements are getting placed with an average of 8-9 LPA and highest ranging up to 30-35 LPA from Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Flipkart, Microsoft. Many students not opting for placements go for higher studies abroad.

Campus Life

Awesome, there is no gender bias, and we're treated equally. A lot of workshops will be conducted within the campus and allow every student to attend the workshops outside the campus. As I have mentioned earlier, there are no differences seen regarding gender, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, politics, and economic status. All are treated equally.

Course Curriculum Overview

It was research-driven, helped to provide much industrial knowledge. They have taken us for many industrial visits which made us become more streamlined in our courses. We understood what we learn practically. Industrial visits are organized in silk board, and many weaving, spinning companies.
