MBA v/s Diploma in Management

Students tend to get confused between MBA and Diploma in Management courses. Hence a comparison is given between MBA and Diploma in Management courses.

MBA Diploma in Management
A Diploma degree is offered to students at the completion of management diploma courses. Whereas at the conclusion of MBA programmes the students are offered with a postgraduate degree.
The curriculum for MBA courses is planned by the university. In two MBA colleges within the same university, the core syllabus would be similar. Diploma courses, however, are decided by each institute. This gives the curriculum of the course some versatility. The Syllabus undergoes an annual modification in compliance with industrial requirements.
There are similar core subjects in both MBA and PGDM courses, but most MBA courses concentrate more on the theoretical and technical aspects of management than on a practical approach. Diploma in management courses have a manufacturing emphasis and concentrate on business requirements-based skills.
Cost of MBA courses is somewhat less than the Diploma in Management. This is due to the fact that most MBA colleges are funded by the government. Cost of a Diploma in Management course is slightly higher than MBA as this course is mostly offered by private institutions. In most cases the cost for both of these courses is more or less the same.

Candidates are trained to achieve a better understanding of the leadership qualities used in business studies. Students benefit from the creation of the skills learned during this course to find lucrative job opportunities in sectors ranging from marketing, operations and entrepreneurship. Those who have completed their Diploma in Management programme successfully may start their career as:

Admission

Firstly you are supposed to fill the application form that you will get from the main reception of the building then they will give you date for your entrance. You are supposed to reach on time for exam. You will be given a sheet of paper and the entrance would be carried out on the paper itself. Then an interview is conducted where one faculty and director is there.

Exam Structure

The exams are conducted both internally and externally. The internal exams are conducted as per the teacher's wish like he or she can schedule it on their own these are of 30 marks including one presentation and one written while the externals are of 70 marks and are conducted properly after giving perfect date sheet. Ques. How is IMT Ghaziabad's dual country program?

● Top Answer By Deepak Behl on 25 Jan 23

Ans. IMT Ghaziabad’s dual country program is one of the most coveted courses among its students. Like any other course, it has its own pros and cons. Let’s discuss them further to see the course's worth. Pros The high fees are worth the ROI you will get The faculty pool comprises professors from all over the world and this broadened the perspective of some subjects. The pedagogy adopted by the excellent faculty makes you fall in love with some very difficult and boring subjects The program has seen an increase in clubs and committees in recent years. Your stay in Dubai is quite productive given you are availing of the necessary opportunities and making the best out of them. Cons The course is expensive as you have to pay hefty fees as well as additional expenses for your stay in Dubai. The internship placement is a bit unorganized due to the difference in hiring seasons in India and Dubai The campus life is a bit dull in comparison to other flagship courses. So IMT Ghaziabad’s Dual Country Program is beneficial to anyone who is looking for extra exposure to their MBA program.Read more

Ques. How is the accomodation at NITIE for PGDIM students?

● Top Answer By Riya Seth on 13 Aug 21

Ans. One of my cousins was a part of NITIE Mumbai and has a better outlook regarding the same. Here is what he has to say, NITIE Mumbai is equipped with a 16 storied hostel apartment for boys, commonly called the Taylor Hostel, and almost 8 to 10 equipped for the girls, mostly known as the Gilbreth Hostel.  The girls’ hostel is quite old and outmoded. The rooms of the Gilbreth Hostel, however, are quite a bit more spacious than what is in the boys’ hostel. The hostel arrives with 27 rooms on every floor, with a twin sharing policy added.  It comes with two beds, two tables and chairs, and two individual cupboards. The rooms are gigantic and completely airy.  The view side of the institute’s hostel is beyond explanation as well. It overlooks the Vihar Lake on one side, while the Hiranandani Gardens on another.  The food you can avail in two messes is commonly known as Sarabhai and Taylor hall. Mostly, the food quality remains constantly the same either way.  The hostels also have table tennis courts, and mounted television sets as well. These are what you should know before finally deciding anything. Read more

Ques. What should be preference order of IMT Ghaziabad courses- PGDM, PGDM marketing, PGDM finance, PGDM DCP, PGDM banking, insurance and financial services?

● Top Answer By Dhruv Chatterjee on 25 Jan 23

Ans. IMT Ghaziabad offers a variety of courses that cater to various specializations. These courses have been listed and explained in their order of preference PGDM Marketing/PGDM Full Time (Marketing): This is the most coveted program among IMT students mainly because today its alumni have acquired top positions in big firms. Other major reasons include top-notch faculty, great internship and placement opportunities in terms of role and CTC, IMT’s eligibility, and excellent performances in recognized marketing and strategy B Schools competitions. PGDM Finance/PGDM Full Time (Finance): This one is most suitable for aspirants who are interested in Finance. However, this program offers lesser opportunities than the Marketing program in terms of role and CTC.  PGDM Full Time (Operations): This program offers opportunities similar to that of Finance. But the batch size of PGDM Operations is smaller than PGDM Finance, so it may be easier to secure an internship/final placement, but the opportunities come less compared to Finance. PGDM DCP: DCP or the Dual Country Program is for those who are keen to get international exposure. Compared to an MBA from a foreign university, this program is cheaper and yet offers an opportunity to explore a different culture and learn to make decisions in an international context. This is best suitable for those who are in the Marketing domain. PGDM Banking and Financial Services (PGDM-BFS): This program was launched in 2019 and is relatively newer. It targets the core Banking and Finance sector. While the MBA program aims to provide a holistic view of management, this program solely focuses on Banking and Finance. PGDM Full Time (HR): This is the least taken course and offers very less in terms of opportunities. The courses have been arranged preference-wise so will make it easy for you to choose one.Read more

The general management program has a good placement record. IMT Ghaziabad placements in 2022 concluded with an average CTC of INR 15.28 LPA. Ques. I got a call from IMT Ghaziabad for DCP. Is it good and are there any chances of it getting upgraded? Should I go for GIM?

● Top Answer By Abhishek Rathi on 25 Jan 23

Ans. IMT Ghaziabad DCP program is one of the best and most coveted among its students. My brother is currently a first-year student of the same and has a lot to say about the course through his experience. He joined the program only after in-depth research. What attracted him the most was the location of the program, Dubai, which is the hub of globalization. Some major highlights of the course are The curriculum is similar to that of the IMT Ghaziabad PGDM program but the additional international exposure is the cherry on the top. The program is taught by an elite faculty base comprising globally recognized professors. The foreign professors mainly hailing from France, the US, Slovenia, UK offer a broader insight into the international management aspects  Right after the end of the First Term you are allotted Company Projects. You have to work in accordance with Dubai culture and will learn a lot about the field you are entering. You can do more than one such project also as that will broaden your network and knowledge. The marketing enthusiasts get to experience the splendid GITEX (Gulf Info Tech Exhibition). It’s an electronics trade show at the Dubai World Trade Centre that is held twice a year. It is a unique opportunity to gain Sales and Marketing experience. Recently the DCP students have made the name of the institution through international companies. Some major achievements include - 4 teams of DCP made it to the finals of the Global Management Challenge with 6 other UAE teams and one DCP team was 4th in the region; The DCP team under the mentorship of Dr. Zalzala won the Google Online Marketing Challenge (GOMC) in the Middle East and Africa. The internship and placement scenario is a bit confusing because in Dubai internships start in January whereas in India internships begin in August. The placements take place in India itself and DCP students are treated at par with the regular students. Despite this many companies offer better offers to DCP students mainly because of their widely gained exposure. My brother's experience was amazing and he recommends it to anyone who wants to explore outside the box.Read more

Ques. What's the difference between TAPMI core pgdm and bkfs?

● Top Answer By Vihan Manjunath on 28 Aug 20

Ans. The difference between PGDM and PGDM-BKFS is that PGDM is the general MBA program and the course curriculum comprises all fundamental and cross-sectional areas of management while the course curriculum of PGDM-BKFS is tailor-made for Finance. In the first year for PGDM students are required to study various management-related subjects like Marketing, Finance, HR, and Operation. However, the BKFS course only includes Finance related topics. TAPMI offers good infrastructure for BKFS. The institute has the largest state-of-arts finance lab in the country with 16 Bloomberg terminals. TAPMI also offers a unique Student Managed Investment Course (SMIC) for the finance stream in which BKFS students work in teams and each team has a mentor from industry currently working in the BFSI Sector. Also, unlike the traditional internship that PGDM students go through the BFS cohort had a two-month study tour in Bombay Stock Exchange where the students had their live projects. Given below is a comparison between the two courses. Ques. Which course is better to join IMT Ghaziabad PGDM (Dual Country Programme) or TAPMI PGDM?

● Top Answer By Arshit Jain on 16 Feb 23

Ans. When considering a post-graduation program in management, PGDM, a Dual Country Program may not offer as many advantages as one might expect. In fact, such programs often come with added costs and require students to spend a year studying in another country, such as Dubai. This can have several drawbacks, including missing out on valuable opportunities for networking and participating in Indian business school competitions. Additionally, when students return to India for placement, they may be competing with a larger pool of students from other programs. In light of these factors, a more prudent option for some students might be to consider a program at a different institute such as TAPMI, which is lower in rank compared to IMT Ghaziabad. However, this tradeoff may be worth it for some students, as TAPMI offers a more favorable program that may better align with their career goals and aspirations. TAPMI is a premier management institute in India known for its strong curriculum and industry-relevant courses. The program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in a career in management. Additionally, the institute's alumni network of industry leaders can help students to secure internships and job opportunities post-graduation. When considering a post-graduation program, it's important to research the different options available and weigh the pros and cons of each institute. Researching the institute's curriculum, faculty, and alumni network, as well as speaking to current students and alumni can help you to make an informed decision. Additionally, it would be a good idea to seek the opinion of professionals in the field you are interested in, as they can provide valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges of different career paths.Read more

Ques. Which is better LBSIM, Delhi PGDM (general) or IMI, Delhi PGDM (B&FS)?

● Top Answer By Amay Singh on 03 Mar 23

Ans. PGDM BFS is a viable option if you are keen about numbers and finance in general. PGDM core and PGDM BFS rarely has a major difference in curriculum except that marketing subjects of BFS would be less intriguing and the major pedagogy is directed towards marketing of finance products and services only. A PGDM core student is open to a plethora of opportunities during placements as he is eligible to appear for companies offering marketing and sales profiles. On the contrary, a PGDM BFS student has been exposed to a customized curriculum that focuses mainly on Finance and lacks a wide range of opportunities. However, he has a more definite chance of securing placement at a company offering Finance roles like Banks and other financial institutions. This advantage seems very minimal right now but with the increase in the relevance of the curriculum and demand of the course, it will soon be coveted among Finance aspirants. The BFS faculties are considered to be among the best given the excellent performance of BFS students in the recent years and the increasing popularity of the course. The companies visiting the campus for BFS are not only banks but include AMCs, NBFCs, FinTechs and other Fin Services firms. The course targets the entire Banking and Finance sector.  At the end of the day, what remains of your college life is not the specific course you chose but the college you chose to pursue it. Be it PGDM Core or PGDM BFS, IMI Delhi is the perfect college to experience a great college life.Read more

Ques. How did the IIM Ahmedabad EPGP course benefit you in your career?

● Top Answer By Kinjal Mishra on 15 Feb 21

Ans. Among the finest openings offered by IIM Ahmedabad, EPGP is one that stands the tallest. The cohort is the best part. You become part of a network that is highly mature and educated. In addition to that, the network is made even better by the working professionals.  In terms of rigorous coursework and quality education, no other institute stands on equal footing with IIM Ahmedabad. The teachers are an institution in themselves. This course involves more than 850 hours of classroom sessions. It will provides the students with skills in leadership through a curriculum that is innovative. The following table shows placement data of IIM Ahmedabad PGPX program: Placement Data IIM A PGPX Number of Participating Students 67 Number of Recruiting Companies 95 Number of offers made 98 Number of international offers 2 Average Salary 27 LPA Highest Salary 43.73 LPA Postgraduate ROI 119% About the course: This 2-year online postgraduate course was started in 2017 and is specially designed for working professionals with a job experience of 3 years but unfortunately no upper limit.  It is as rigorous as the PGP and also has almost the same curriculum.  The program does not offer any placement assistance as it is for working professionals.  The program is very demanding so the trade off would probably quite high. However, in terms of gaining knowledge the program is very impactful. You will see a positive impact of the program in 2-5 years.Read more

Ques. Which course is better IIM Shillong PGPEx or IIMs ePGP?

● Top Answer By Yash Chandra on 23 Jan 23

Ans. When considering a business school program, especially a one-year program, it is important to consider the cohort of the peer group and the experiences they bring to the table. While the faculty and brand of the school are important factors, the main source of knowledge in these courses often comes from peer group interaction through group discussions, projects, and sharing of experiences.  Additionally, students may also be responsible for seeking out opportunities for placements, so it is important to research and connect with seniors and peers in the industry to get a sense of what the program has to offer. It is not advisable to rely solely on rankings or advertisements when making a decision, as there may be more to consider than what is immediately apparent. It is important to do thorough research and dig deep before committing to a program.Read more
