Seiko GNM FAQs
Ques. Is GNM from Seiko College of Pharmacy recognized for nursing practice across India?
Ans. Yes, the GNM programme at Seiko College of Pharmacy is affiliated with the UP State Medical Faculty and regulated by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). After completing the GNM programme and the 6-month internship, graduates can register with the UP Nurses and Midwives Council (UPNMC) and obtain a nursing registration certificate. This registration is recognized across India, allowing graduates to practice as registered nurses in government and private hospitals, clinics, and healthcare institutions nationwide.
Ques. What is the UPGET exam, and how competitive is it for GNM admission in UP?
Ans. UPGET (UP GNM Entrance Test) is a state-level entrance exam conducted by Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University (ABVMU), Lucknow, for admission to GNM programmes in all government and private GNM colleges affiliated with the UP State Medical Faculty. The exam consists of 100 MCQs (50 from Science at Class 10 level, 30 from General Knowledge at Class 12 level, and 20 from English at Class 12 level) to be answered in 140 minutes. There is no negative marking. The minimum qualifying percentile is 50th for General category and 45th for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates. The exam is moderately competitive, and students with a good Class 10 and 12 science background can clear it with focused preparation.
Ques. What career opportunities are available after completing GNM from Seiko College of Pharmacy?
Ans. GNM graduates can work as Staff Nurses, Community Health Nurses, Midwives, or Nursing Assistants in government hospitals, private hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and community health centres. In Uttar Pradesh, GNM graduates are eligible to apply for government nursing posts through UPSSSC (UP Subordinate Services Selection Commission) and other state recruitment boards. They can also pursue further education such as Post Basic B.Sc Nursing (a 2-year programme) to upgrade their qualification. International nursing opportunities are also available, particularly in Gulf countries and the UK, for registered nurses with GNM qualifications.
Ques. What is the difference between GNM and B.Sc Nursing? Which is better?
Ans. GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) is a 3.5-year diploma-level programme, while B.Sc Nursing is a 4-year degree programme. Both are regulated by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). GNM is more affordable and has a shorter duration, making it a popular choice for students who want to enter the nursing profession quickly. B.Sc Nursing, being a degree programme, offers slightly better career prospects for senior nursing roles and academic positions. However, GNM graduates can upgrade to Post Basic B.Sc Nursing after gaining work experience, effectively bridging the gap. For students from economically weaker backgrounds, GNM is often the preferred route.
Ques. Does Seiko College of Pharmacy have hostel facilities for GNM students?
Ans. Yes, Seiko College of Pharmacy has hostel facilities on its 75+ acre campus. The hostel fee is Rs. 50,000. The campus also has a cafeteria, computer lab, playground, and medical facility. Since the GNM programme requires regular clinical training at affiliated hospitals, students from outside Lucknow are advised to avail of the hostel facility for convenience. Students should confirm the availability of hostel seats and specific hostel rules directly with the college admissions office.
Ques. Can male students apply for GNM at Seiko College of Pharmacy?
Ans. Yes, male candidates can apply for GNM in Uttar Pradesh. As per UPGET 2025 norms, 10% of government seats are reserved for male candidates. For private institutions like Seiko College of Pharmacy, male candidates can apply through the UPGET counselling process. The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has allowed male candidates to pursue GNM since 2020, and male nurses are increasingly in demand in ICUs, operation theatres, and psychiatric nursing units. Male candidates must meet the same eligibility criteria as female candidates (10+2 with English, minimum 40% marks, minimum age 17 years).
