YIT M.Tech VLSI FAQs
Ques. What is the total fee for M.Tech VLSI Design at YIT Mangalore?
Ans. The total academic fee for the 2-year M.Tech VLSI Design and Embedded System programme at YIT Mangalore is INR 1,70,000 for the full duration. Optional hostel accommodation is billed at around INR 74,000 per year additionally. GATE-qualified students are eligible for an AICTE scholarship of INR 12,400 per month, which over two years amounts to INR 2,97,600 and effectively more than covers the programme fee. Fee is paid on a semester-wise basis as communicated by YIT.
Ques. Is GATE mandatory for M.Tech admission at YIT Mangalore?
Ans. No, GATE is not the only route. YIT Mangalore accepts both GATE and Karnataka PGCET for M.Tech VLSI Design and Embedded System admission. GATE is recommended because qualified students receive the INR 12,400 per month AICTE scholarship. Karnataka PGCET is an alternative for students who could not appear for GATE or did not score sufficiently. Both routes are through the Karnataka PGCET counselling portal for final seat allocation. A minimum 50% in BE/B.Tech is required for both pathways.
Ques. What is the current status of Karnataka PGCET 2026 counselling for M.Tech?
Ans. The Karnataka PGCET for M.Tech was conducted on May 24, 2026. Registration for PGCET ran from March 23 to April 20, 2026. The PGCET result is expected on or around July 8, 2026. Counselling and seat allotment for M.Tech at YIT will follow the PGCET result declaration. GATE results were declared on March 19, 2026. Students should monitor the official PGCET portal for the counselling schedule.
Ques. What labs and facilities does the M.Tech VLSI programme at YIT offer?
Ans. YIT Mangalore has a dedicated VLSI laboratory supporting coursework in chip design, analog and digital electronics, embedded systems, and electrical circuits. The lab is used for project work in VLSI design, FPGA programming, and signal processing as part of the VTU M.Tech curriculum. The availability of an on-campus VLSI lab is a core reason why ECE graduates from the region choose YIT for postgraduate specialisation in this domain.
Ques. What career paths are available after M.Tech VLSI from YIT Mangalore?
Ans. M.Tech VLSI graduates can work as VLSI design engineers, embedded systems engineers, FPGA developers, chip verification engineers, and semiconductor layout engineers. Companies in the semiconductor and electronics industry, including ISRO, DRDO, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, and various defence and space organisations, recruit M.Tech VLSI graduates. Some graduates also pursue research programmes or join as faculty in engineering colleges. The combination of a VTU degree and hands-on lab experience at YIT is suited to both industry and academic roles.
Ques. Can BE ECE graduates from other colleges apply for M.Tech VLSI at YIT?
Ans. Yes, BE/B.Tech graduates in Electronics and Communication Engineering or Electrical and Electronics Engineering from any recognised university can apply for M.Tech VLSI Design and Embedded System at YIT Mangalore, provided they meet the minimum 50% aggregate criterion. Admission is through GATE or Karnataka PGCET. Students from outside Karnataka who have a valid GATE score can also apply through the PGCET counselling process. There is no restriction on the college of origin for BE graduates applying to this M.Tech programme.
