The eligibility criteria of NID Bangalore rest on the educational qualifications and age of the candidate. However, the eligibility criteria vary slightly for the different categories.

For admission to M.Des at NID Bangalore, one must possess either,

• Bachelor's degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard from any university or institute recognized by law in India.
• Bachelor's degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognized by law in India.
• Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognized by law in India.

Notably, candidates, in the final year, whose universities may not have issued the final degree certificate by the date of application to NID, are eligible to apply, subject to passing all subjects without any backlog.

NID Bangalore M.Des ​Selection Criteria

In order to be considered for admission, a candidate needs to have appeared in both DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

• A merit list is prepared in accordance with the results of DAT Prelims for each category. Based on that merit list, candidates are called for DAT Mains. DAT Mains includes a Studio Test and Interview.
• Thereafter, based on the results of DAT Mains, a number of candidates are shortlisted for each discipline offered by NID Bengaluru. Based on the sum total of the weighted scores obtained by the candidate in each stage of the admission process, namely the DAT Prelims and DAT Mains, the final merit list is prepared.
• The final merit list has a category-wise generation of candidates for each of the disciplines. Finally, a Common merit list will be generated based on the percentile score.

• Master of Design (M.Des) Degree from a recognised institution.
• Master of Philosophy in Design (M.Phil (Design)) Degree from a recognised institution.
• Master of (Architecture/Fine Art/Applied Art) Degree following a M.Des/B.Des Degree.
• Bachelor of Design (B.Des) from NID + 3 Years Professional or Teaching Experience.
• 2-Year Faculty Development Program in Design from NID or any recognised university.

NID Bangalore PhD Selection Criteria

The selection of the candidates for a PhD at NID Bangalore includes the following stages:

• Stage 1 (Eligibility Screening): The application forms will be scrutinised for eligibility, such as educational qualifications.
• Stage 2 (Assessment of Research Proposal): Candidates need to submit a research proposal outlining their motivation and research plan. The content of the research proposal will be examined from the perspective of alignment with NID’s research objectives and other relevant factors. Candidates whose proposals pass this assessment will be shortlisted for Stage 3.
• Stage 3 (Design Research Test): Shortlisted candidates will have to take the Design Research Test (DRT). Candidates with work experience of 15 Years or more are exempted from taking the DRT. Candidates who pass the DRT will be eligible for the final Personal Interview.
