DIMR Ph.D. FAQs
Ques. Is the Ph.D. from DIMR a valid and recognized degree, and what is the awarding university?
Ans. The Ph.D. degree awarded through DIMR's Post Graduate Research Centre (PGRC) is conferred by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune. SPPU is a prominent state university recognized by UGC, NAAC, and AICTE. Since DIMR's PGRC is an SPPU-approved research centre, the degree carries the full recognition and credibility of SPPU, not just DIMR. This is an important distinction for candidates evaluating the degree's value for academic or professional advancement.
Ques. Do I need to clear the SPPU PET even if I have a UGC-NET or JRF qualification?
Ans. Candidates who hold a valid UGC-NET, SET, or JRF qualification are generally eligible for exemption from the SPPU PET (Ph.D. Entrance Test) as per SPPU regulations. However, they are still required to register through the SPPU Ph.D. admission portal, submit their NET/JRF scorecard, and select DIMR's PGRC as their preferred research centre. The interview and research proposal presentation at DIMR is mandatory for all candidates, regardless of PET exemption.
Ques. What are the available research areas / specializations for Ph.D. (Management) at DIMR?
Ans. Based on the current guide availability at DIMR's PGRC, research areas include Marketing Management, Finance, Human Resource Management, and Operations & Supply Chain Management. The allocation of a research guide depends on the candidate's proposed research topic and the availability of a suitable guide at DIMR. Candidates are advised to contact DIMR directly before applying to confirm whether a guide is available in their specific area of interest, as guide availability can change each admission cycle.
Ques. Can a working professional pursue this Ph.D. programme at DIMR?
Ans. SPPU's Ph.D. regulations allow for part-time Ph.D. enrolment for working professionals, with a duration of 4 to 7 years. However, DIMR's PGRC primarily facilitates full-time research. Working professionals interested in part-time Ph.D. should specifically inquire with DIMR about part-time guide availability and whether the PGRC supports part-time scholars in the current cycle. A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the employer is typically required for part-time Ph.D. candidates.
Ques. What is the coursework requirement for the Ph.D. programme, and when does it take place?
Ans. As per SPPU norms, all Ph.D. scholars are required to complete a mandatory coursework component at the beginning of the programme. The coursework covers research methodology, quantitative techniques, and subject-specific topics. Scholars must pass the coursework examination conducted by SPPU before proceeding to their research work. Pre-Ph.D. presentations (synopsis submission) are permitted only after the completion of 3 years from the date of admission, ensuring adequate research depth before thesis submission.
Ques. How many seats are available for Ph.D. (Management) at DIMR's PGRC, and how competitive is the admission?
Ans. The number of Ph.D. seats at DIMR's PGRC depends on the number of approved research guides and their available vacancies in a given admission cycle. Based on the 2024-25 first round, only 1 seat was filled (in Marketing Management), indicating that intake is limited and highly selective. Candidates are strongly advised to check the current guide-wise vacant seats list published by SPPU before applying, and to reach out to DIMR directly to understand the available seats for the 2026 cycle.
