DME BA (JMC) FAQs

Ques. What makes DME Media School different from other BA JMC colleges under GGSIPU?

Ans. DME Media School stands out primarily because of its production infrastructure and industry exposure. Studio 62 is a fully equipped broadcast studio where students produce real programs for DME TV, the college's active YouTube channel. The annual CIFFI International Film Festival, co-organized with Deakin University (Australia) and University of Nottingham (China), is a unique feature that exposes students to world cinema and international filmmakers. The B.G. Verghese Lecture Series has featured prominent journalists like Sir Mark Tully (former BBC New Delhi Bureau Chief), Punya Prasun Bajpai, Deepak Chaurasia, and Sayeed Ansari (Aaj Tak). Industrial visits to Aaj Tak, All India Radio, Network 18, and FTII Pune provide real-world exposure that most colleges in the same fee bracket cannot match.

Ques. What is the actual fee for BA JMC at DME? Is there a difference between Shift I and Shift II fees?

Ans. The annual fee for BA JMC at DME is approximately Rs. 1,38,000 (from Year 2 onwards) and Rs. 1,40,000 in Year 1 (including the one-time Alumni Contribution Fund). The total 3-year fee is approximately Rs. 4,16,000. There is no difference in fees between Shift I and Shift II; both shifts have the same fee structure. Hostel is optional and charged separately. Candidates should verify the exact fee from the official GGSIPU fee notification before admission, as fees may be revised annually.

Ques. What is the difference between Shift I and Shift II for BA JMC at DME? Which shift is better?

Ans. Both Shift I and Shift II for BA JMC at DME have the same curriculum, faculty, and infrastructure. Shift I typically runs in the morning (around 8 AM to 2 PM) and Shift II in the afternoon (around 2 PM to 8 PM). The choice between shifts depends on your personal schedule and commute preferences. Both shifts have equal access to Studio 62, DME TV, and all college facilities. During GGSIPU counselling, you can list both shifts as preferences and will be allotted based on your rank and availability.

Ques. What career options are available after BA JMC from DME?

Ans. Graduates of the BA JMC program from DME pursue careers in television journalism (reporting, anchoring, production), digital media (content creation, social media management, OTT platforms), print journalism, radio broadcasting, public relations, advertising, filmmaking, documentary production, and corporate communications. DME's strong industry connections through CIFFI, DME TV, and the B.G. Verghese Lecture Series help students build networks during the program. Many alumni have gone on to work with news channels, production houses, PR agencies, and digital media companies.

Ques. Is IPU CET or CUET better for getting admission to DME BA JMC?

Ans. Both IPU CET and CUET are accepted for BA JMC admission at DME. IPU CET is specifically designed for GGSIPU programs and is generally considered the primary route, as it directly feeds into the GGSIPU counselling process. CUET is a national-level exam and is accepted as an alternative. If you have already appeared in CUET UG 2026, your score will be considered. If you are specifically targeting GGSIPU colleges, appearing in IPU CET gives you a dedicated rank in the GGSIPU merit list, which may be more straightforward for counselling purposes.

Ques. Is the 85% Delhi seat reservation a problem for students from outside Delhi for BA JMC at DME?

Ans. Yes, 85% of seats in all GGSIPU-affiliated colleges, including DME, are reserved for Delhi-domicile students. For BA JMC at DME, with 60 seats per shift (120 total), approximately 102 seats are reserved for Delhi students and only 18 seats are available for outside-Delhi candidates across both shifts. This makes it significantly more competitive for non-Delhi candidates. Outside-Delhi students need a strong IPU CET or CUET rank to secure admission. The Management Quota (10% of seats) does not have the Delhi domicile restriction and is an alternative route for non-Delhi candidates.
