TCET B.Tech AIML FAQs
Ques. What MHT CET percentile is required to get AIML at TCET for a general category student?
Ans. Based on previous years' trends, students from the general (open) category typically need around 93-96 percentile in MHT CET to secure admission to the AIML branch at TCET. For the Hindi Linguistic Minority quota (which TCET is), the required percentile is slightly lower, around 85-90 percentile. TFWS (Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme) seats are more competitive and may require 96-98 percentile. These are indicative figures based on past cutoffs and can vary each year depending on the number of applicants and seat availability.
Ques. Is the AIML branch at TCET different from the AI and Data Science (AIDS) branch? Which one is better?
Ans. Yes, both are distinct programmes. B.Tech AIML focuses specifically on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning algorithms, model building, neural networks, and intelligent systems. B.Tech AIDS (Artificial Intelligence and Data Science) has a stronger emphasis on data analytics, big data, and data engineering alongside AI. Both have an intake of 240 seats each at TCET. The choice depends on your interest - if you are more inclined towards building intelligent systems and ML models, AIML is the right fit; if you are more interested in data pipelines, analytics, and business intelligence, AIDS may suit you better. Both branches have similar placement opportunities in the tech industry.
Ques. Does TCET charge any additional fees beyond the FRA-approved tuition fee?
Ans. Yes, apart from the FRA-approved tuition fee of Rs. 1,54,500 per year, TCET charges various other fees such as TSDW (student welfare) fees, stationery charges, membership fees for professional bodies, and training programme fees. These are charged separately and are not part of the FRA fee structure. Students on Quora and Reddit have mentioned these additional charges, so it is advisable to check the complete fee breakup at the time of admission. The refundable deposits (Library: Rs. 2,000 and Lab: Rs. 3,000) are returned at the end of the course subject to no dues.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for AIML students at TCET?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at TCET is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. TCET has multiple hostel options managed by the Zagdusingh Charitable Trust, including Kelipada Students Hostel, Mahadev Hostel (Boys), and ASPIRE Students Hostel. Monthly rents range from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 14,300 depending on the hostel and floor. Newly admitted students are notified about hostel availability at the start of the academic year (typically in September). Since TCET is located in Kandivali East, Mumbai, students from outside Mumbai often prefer hostel accommodation. It is advisable to contact the hostel office (Mr. Alok Kumar Singh: +91-8169714213) early to check availability.
Ques. What is the attendance requirement for B.Tech AIML at TCET, and what happens if attendance falls short?
Ans. TCET follows a strict 75% attendance requirement for all programmes. Students who fail to maintain the required attendance may be detained from appearing in semester examinations. As an autonomous institute, TCET has its own examination and attendance policies. Students have noted that the college is strict about attendance, and missing lectures for internships or external activities requires prior written permission from the Principal. It is important to plan any external commitments (internships, competitions, etc.) well in advance and obtain formal approval to avoid attendance-related issues.
Ques. What career opportunities are available after completing B.Tech AIML from TCET?
Ans. Graduates of B.Tech AIML from TCET can pursue careers as Machine Learning Engineers, Data Scientists, AI Researchers, AI Consultants, NLP Engineers, Computer Vision Engineers, and more. Companies like Accenture, Capgemini, TCS, Infosys, JP Morgan Chase, and Tech Mahindra regularly visit TCET for campus placements. The college-wide average package for 2024-25 was Rs. 7.93 LPA with a highest package of Rs. 40 LPA. Students with strong programming skills and project portfolios in AI/ML have secured roles in top product companies.
