TCET Mumbai: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 4 Reviews

The Cyber Security course is known for its supportive faculty and low faculty-to-student ratio, ensuring personalized attention with approximately one faculty member per 25 students. The course structure includes three in-semester exams and one end-semester exam, which are usually manageable, especially in key departments like CS, IT, AIML, AIDS, and CSE. Placement opportunities are promising, with good academic performers (above an 8 percentile) benefiting the most. The placement process starts in the sixth semester, supported by an active Training and Placement Cell.

The average salary package is about 5 lakh INR per annum, with top offers reaching 44 lakh INR per annum from companies like Amazon. Other notable recruiters include Accenture, Capgemini, Infosys, TCS, Oracle, and Flipkart. The first batch of cyber security students is set to receive placement offers with packages ranging from 5-6 lakh INR per annum. Annually, the college increases fees by 10,000 to 12,000 INR. Currently, the total annual fee is 165,000 INR, with additional charges of 2,000 INR for student development and 5,300 INR for institute fees.

Scholarships such as the EBC can significantly reduce fees, especially for General Category students, with TFWS seats also available for eligible candidates. Although fees are typically due in full at admission, installments can be arranged with the Principal’s consent, and EBC benefits can cut fees by about half.

TCET BE (Cyber Security) FAQs

Ques. Is the BE Cyber Security at TCET a separate branch or a specialisation under Computer Engineering?

Ans. The B.E. Computer Science and Engineering (Cyber Security) at TCET is a fully independent branch with its own dedicated department, separate from the Computer Engineering and IT departments. It was established in AY 2022-23 and has a sanctioned intake of 180 seats. The curriculum is specifically designed around cybersecurity topics such as ethical hacking, network security, cryptography, and information warfare, and is not a minor or elective track within Computer Engineering. Students graduate with a degree specifically in CSE (Cyber Security), which is recognised by AICTE and the University of Mumbai.

Ques. What is the difference between the CAP seat fees and the Institute Level Quota seat fees for this branch?

Ans. For CAP (state quota) seats, the total annual fee is Rs. 1,59,500 (including tuition, development fee, and refundable deposits) as per FRA norms for AY 2025-26. However, for Institute Level Quota seats in the CSE (Cyber Security), CMPN, IT, AIDS, and AIML branches, TCET charges an additional Rs. 4,63,500 as an institute-level quota fee, making the total annual fee approximately Rs. 6,23,000. This is significantly higher and is a common practice at private autonomous colleges in Mumbai for high-demand branches. Students who secure seats through CAP rounds pay the lower regulated fee.

Ques. Can students from outside Maharashtra get admission to this course, and which exam should they appear for?

Ans. Yes, students from outside Maharashtra (All India Candidature) can seek admission to TCET's BE Cyber Security programme. They need a non-zero positive score in JEE Main 2026. All India candidates compete for a separate quota of seats and are not eligible for Maharashtra State Candidature CAP seats. Preference is given to JEE Main qualified candidates over MHT-CET qualified candidates for All India seats. NRI/OCI/PIO candidates can also apply directly through the TCET admission office.

Ques. Does TCET's autonomous status affect the Cyber Security syllabus compared to other Mumbai University colleges?

Ans. Yes, TCET's Graded Autonomous status means it designs and implements its own curriculum rather than following the standard University of Mumbai syllabus. For the Cyber Security branch, this allows TCET to incorporate more industry-relevant and contemporary topics, update the curriculum more frequently, and integrate practical components aligned with current cybersecurity trends. The degree, however, is still awarded by the University of Mumbai and is fully recognised. Students should note that the internal examination pattern, grading, and subject structure may differ from non-autonomous colleges offering the same programme.

Ques. What career opportunities are available after completing BE Cyber Security from TCET?

Ans. Graduates of BE CSE (Cyber Security) from TCET can pursue careers as Cybersecurity Analysts, Ethical Hackers, Penetration Testers, Security Operations Centre (SOC) Analysts, Network Security Engineers, Information Security Officers, and Forensic Analysts. The global cybersecurity market is growing rapidly, and demand for trained professionals far exceeds supply. Graduates can also pursue higher studies such as M.E./M.Tech in Cybersecurity or Information Security, or certifications like CEH, CISSP, and CompTIA Security+. TCET's industry tie-ups with Accenture, CISCO, and Intel provide additional exposure through its Centres of Excellence.

Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for Cyber Security students at TCET, and what are the practical living costs?

Ans. Hostel accommodation at TCET is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. TCET has multiple hostel options managed by the Zagdusingh Charitable Trust, with monthly rents ranging from Rs. 6,000 (Mahadev Boys Hostel) to Rs. 14,300 (ASPIRE Hostel, upper floors). Students must apply separately for hostel accommodation and pay a refundable security deposit ranging from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 40,000 depending on the hostel. Electricity charges are billed separately. Hostel fees once paid for the academic year are non-refundable; only the security deposit is refundable upon prior notice. Students are advised to apply early as seats are limited.
