The New College is located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and was established in 1951. TNC is run by the Muslim Educational Association of Southern India (MEASI). The institute is a Government-Aided Muslim minority College affiliated to the University of Madras.

The New College offers courses in two shifts i.e. both day and evening, the evening shift courses are self-financed. Candidates can apply for UG, PG, Ph.D. and M. Phil courses in Arts, Commerce and Science subjects.

  • Application forms are filled through online mode. Forms can also be obtained from the college and through the post as well.
  • The last date for submission of completed application forms for Undergraduate Courses will be the 10th day after the date of publication of the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Examination results.
  • Similarly, the last date of submitting forms for PG courses is the 10th day after the date of publication of Undergraduate Degree Examination results of the University of Madras.
  • For admission to UG programs, candidates must have passed 10+2 from a recognized board.
  • An applicant who has graduated in relevant discipline is eligible to apply for PG courses.
  • For doctorate programs, they must possess PG degree in the concerned subject.
  • Selection to courses is based on qualifying exam merit and interview.

The New College, Chennai UG Courses Admission 2024

The New College offers three-year BA, B.Sc and B.Com course in two shifts in several specializations. Candidates applying should have passed HSC from a recognized board along with the concerned subject of admission.

For selection to all courses, merit list is prepared considering candidate’s performance in 10+2. Shortlisted candidates on the basis of merit list are called for interview.

The New College, Chennai PG Courses Admission 2024

The New College offers MA, M.Sc and M.Com courses at postgraduate level. The courses are offered in two shifts. Courses are offered as both Aided and Self Financing.

Minimum eligibility for admission to PG courses is graduation in the concerned discipline. Admission is given on the basis of the merit of the candidate in the qualifying exam and interview.

The New College, Chennai M.Phil and Ph.D. Courses Admission 2024

The New College offers M.Phil and Ph.D. as research courses. Both M.Phil and Ph.D. are offered in Part-time and full-time modes. 

Courses are offered in Arts, Science and Commerce disciplines in various specializations. Candidates applying must have passed Master’s degree course in the relevant discipline.

The New College, Chennai Application Process

Candidates have to apply online for all UG courses. For PG and M. Phil courses, application forms can also be collected from college office. Candidates need to follow below mentioned steps to fill online:

  • Visit the official website at www.thenewcollege.in  and Click on 'Admission’ 
  • Click on Pay online and fill all the relevant details. The application fee is INR 200 for UG courses and INR 250 for PG and Research courses.
  • Choose the Payment Mode and Submit.
  • Candidates must note down the ' IOB PAY Track Id / SBI Select Payment Category ' and date of payment.
  • Enter “IOB Pay Track Id/ SBI Select Payment Category” and date of payment.
  • Enter the course of admission and click on Apply button.
  • Fill all the relevant information like Permanent Address, academic information etc.
  • Verify the filled date and click on Confirm.
  • After completing the application procedure, the application number will be generated and the same will be sent to the mobile. Quote the Application Number for any queries regarding admission.
  • Download a copy of filled in application form and attach relevant documents and sent it to

In the request letter candidates must clearly mention the course, along with a crossed DD of INR 250 (for UG Courses) or INR 300 (for PG/M.Phil. Courses) and a self-addressed envelope. The DD shall be drawn in favor of The Principal, The New College, Chennai-600 014 payable at Chennai.

Scholarships

The New College offers following scholarships for the students. Students are directed to meet the class counselor/ scholarship clerk in the office for more details on various scholarships.

  1. Merit Cum Means Scholarship
  • A national merit-cum-means scholarship is offered to students belonging to minority communities.
  • Only those candidates who have secured a minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying examination are eligible.
  • This scholarship is available for UG, PG, and M.Phil. And Ph.D. courses. The annual income of parents of eligible candidates should not be more than INR 1, 00,000.
  1.  National Loan Scholarship
  • This scholarship is for UG and PG students belonging to SC and ST category.
  • The applicants should have scored a minimum of 50% in the qualifying examination.
  • This scholarship is available only for students staying in reputed/approved hostels.
  • The annual income limit is INR 1, 00,000.
  1. Scholarship for the physically challenged
  • Candidates who are deaf/hearing impaired, visually and, orthopedically challenged are offered this scholarship.
  • Parent’s income should not be more than INR 1, 00,000.
  1. Residential and non-residential state scholarships
  • This scholarship is for students belonging to SC, ST, and those converted from Hinduism to Christianity. Such candidates should be natives of Tamil Nadu.
  • Annual Income limit: Rs. 2, 00,000/- for SC., ST., and Rs. 1, 00,000/- for Christian converts.
  1. Candidates who have done school education in the Union Territory of Pondicherry are offered Pondicherry state Post-Metric scholarship.
  2. Directorate of Tribal Affairs, Government of Manipur, gives Post-Metric scholarships for students from Manipur state.
  3. Those belonging to Territory of Lakshadweep are awarded scholarships by Administration of the Government of Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
  4. Directorate of Higher Education, Kohima, Nagaland, gives Post-Metric scholarships for students from Nagaland state.
  5. Under Tamil Nadu Agricultural Labourers – Farmer’s Welfare Scheme, students belonging to the family of farmer’s community are offered scholarships by the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Tamil Nadu.
  6. Candidates who are pursuing Ph.D. are offered stipend by The Directorate of Collegiate Education, Tamil Nadu.
  7. Students scoring 80% or above in the qualifying exam are offered scholarships by Ministry of Human Resource Development through the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Tamil Nadu.
  8. Ministry of Labor, Government of India, gives scholarships to the children of Beedi / Mine / Cine workers from Tamil Nadu.
  9. Wards of Secondary Grade Teachers who are working in Government Recognized Primary and Middle Schools for pursuing M.A., M.Sc., M.Com. M.Ed., ML, M.C.A., M.Phil courses in Tamilnadu are given scholarships.
  • Candidates applying for this scholarship must have secured not less than 60% marks in the U.G. Courses.
  • Selection is made on the merit basis.
  • There is no income limit.
  1. The parent body of The New College, Muslim Educational Association of Southern India (MEASI) awards scholarships to poor and deserving Muslim students pursuing unaided courses in the Day College and all UG and PG course in the Evening College.

No i didn't get any rejection in any of the colleges, my only idea was to get into The New College and i had got the addmission. Admission:

I tried to apply for Loyola but they didn't give me the course i liked and i heard that they charge donation. New College on the other hand Gave me a government seat and the mosque nearby is convinient for me to attend friday prayers. Nope, i rejected them. They didn't give me the course i wanted and charged too much money. I had to fill up an admission form, followed by the interview process. For aided batch in commerce a candidate requires above 90% to get selected. Overall it was pretty good.

The admission process were to be done only online mode Application rates were about 300-500 Entrance exams were conducted during on spot selection of students while checking the document. The admission process was so smooth, there was no longer waiting time or the management team's faults. You can find the application form on the new college website or else you can go directly to the college and apply so. I find the application form on the website of the new college. The application form fee was asked for and paid. I applied for B.Com(commerce) for the morning shift in government quota and its eligibility is 80% mark for CBSE students and 85% for matriculation students. No reservation seats are available only mark-based selection. It's good for the admission process.
