WCTM B.Tech MEA FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech Mechanical Engineering and B.Tech Mechanical & Automation Engineering at WCTM? Which should I choose?
Ans. B.Tech Mechanical Engineering is the traditional program covering core mechanical subjects like thermodynamics, manufacturing, design, and fluid mechanics. B.Tech Mechanical & Automation Engineering (MEA) is an enhanced version that includes all core mechanical subjects plus industrial automation technologies such as PLC programming, microcontrollers, CAD/CAM, and CNC. MEA graduates have an edge in the modern manufacturing and automotive industry where automation is increasingly critical. If you are interested in working with automated manufacturing systems, robotics, or Industry 4.0 technologies, MEA is the better choice. Both programs have the same fee structure at WCTM (Rs. 35,000/semester).
Ques. Is JEE Main mandatory for B.Tech Mechanical & Automation Engineering admission at WCTM?
Ans. JEE Main is required for admission through the HSTES Haryana state counselling route, which covers 75% of the seats. However, WCTM also offers 25% management quota seats where direct admission may be possible based on 12th marks and an interview/counselling at the college level. The eligibility requirement is 45% in 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics. Additionally, WCTM offers a scholarship of 50% on tuition fees for students with a JEE Main rank up to 1 Lakh, which is a significant incentive to appear in JEE Main even if the score is not very high. Students interested in management quota should contact the WCTM admission office directly at 8607788739/40.
Ques. What are the career prospects after B.Tech Mechanical & Automation Engineering from WCTM?
Ans. Graduates of B.Tech Mechanical & Automation Engineering from WCTM can pursue careers in manufacturing companies, automotive firms, automation solution providers, and industrial equipment manufacturers. Common job roles include Mechanical Design Engineer, Automation Engineer, PLC Programmer, Production Engineer, Quality Control Engineer, and CNC Programmer. Key recruiters from WCTM's Mechanical department include Bajaj, Minda Group, JBM Auto, Maruti Suzuki, Hettich, HAL, L&T, Honeywell, and Amber Enterprises. The average package for Mechanical & Automation graduates is typically in the range of Rs. 3-6 LPA at the entry level.
Ques. Does WCTM have good lab facilities for Mechanical & Automation Engineering students?
Ans. Yes, WCTM has dedicated lab facilities for Mechanical & Automation Engineering students. The college has a Panasonic Automation Centre of Excellence for industrial automation training, an ABB Robotics Arm Lab for hands-on robotics experience, a Digital Fab Lab with 3D printing capabilities, and well-equipped mechanical engineering labs for thermal, fluid mechanics, and manufacturing processes. Students also get exposure to CAD/CAM software and CNC machines. The college conducts industrial visits to companies like Amber Enterprises, Yakult, Panasonic, and NTPC for real-world exposure.
Ques. What is the HSTES counselling process for B.Tech admission at WCTM? How does it work?
Ans. HSTES (Haryana State Technical Education Society) conducts centralized counselling for B.Tech admissions in all AICTE-approved engineering colleges in Haryana, including WCTM. The process involves: (1) Registering on the HSTES portal (hstes.org.in) with your JEE Main scorecard and documents; (2) Filling in college and branch preferences in order of priority; (3) Participating in online seat allotment based on JEE Main rank and category; (4) Reporting to the allotted college (WCTM) for document verification and fee payment. The counselling typically happens in multiple rounds (Round 1, Round 2, Mop-up Round) between June and August. Students should register early and fill preferences carefully as seat allotment is based on merit and availability.
Ques. Can a student with a low JEE Main score or no JEE Main score get admission to B.Tech at WCTM?
Ans. Yes, students with a low JEE Main score or no JEE Main score can still get admission to B.Tech at WCTM through the management quota (25% of seats). WCTM offers direct admission for management quota seats based on 12th standard marks and an interview/counselling at the college level.
