Environmental Management and Policy Research Institute is an autonomous institution which is established by government of Karnataka. The institute is anchored at Department of Ecology, Forest & Environment. EMPRI Bangalore provides two years full time MBA program. Admission is based on previous merit.

Its Governing Body consist of representatives of the government, comprising Department of Forest, Ecology & Environment, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), Department of Urban Development, Department of Industries & Commerce, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Department of Finance and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Since 2007, EMPRI is supported by Government of Germany through the Integrated Expert Program of CIM. In 2008 the former Indo-Norwegian Environmental Project (INEP) was integrated into EMPRI, leading to a further expansion of the mandate.
