VESIT ME FAQs
Ques. What is the specialization offered under M.E. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering at VESIT? Is it the same as M.Tech VLSI?
Ans. The M.E. programme at VESIT under Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering is specifically offered with a specialization in VLSI and Embedded Systems. This is essentially equivalent to what many institutes call M.Tech VLSI or M.Tech Embedded Systems. The curriculum covers advanced VLSI design, FPGA-based design, embedded system architecture, digital signal processing, advanced communication systems, and related research areas. The degree awarded is M.E. (Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering) from the University of Mumbai, with the specialization in VLSI and Embedded Systems. This is a highly relevant specialization given the global semiconductor boom and India's push to develop its own chip design and fabrication ecosystem.
Ques. What is the seat intake for M.E. at VESIT, and how competitive is admission?
Ans. The approved intake for M.E. (Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering / VLSI and Embedded Systems) at VESIT is only 6 seats, making it one of the most selective PG programmes at the institute. Admission is based on GATE scores (primarily EC paper), and the Maharashtra M.Tech CAP process allocates seats based on GATE rank and category. Given the small intake and VESIT's reputation, competition for these seats is significant. Candidates with strong GATE scores in the EC/EE/IN papers and a good academic record in their B.E./B.Tech. are the primary applicants.
Ques. Is GATE mandatory for M.E. admission at VESIT? Can I get admission without GATE?
Ans. GATE score is the primary and mandatory criterion for admission to M.E. at VESIT through the Maharashtra M.Tech CAP process. Without a valid GATE score, candidates cannot participate in the CAP rounds. However, if seats remain vacant after all CAP rounds, VESIT may conduct ACAP (Against CAP) rounds where candidates without GATE scores may be considered for institute-level seats, subject to DTE Maharashtra norms and availability. It is strongly recommended to appear for GATE to maximize admission chances, as the CAP process is the primary route.
Ques. What are the career prospects after M.E. (VLSI and Embedded Systems) from VESIT?
Ans. Graduates of M.E. (VLSI and Embedded Systems) from VESIT have strong career prospects in the semiconductor and electronics industry. Job roles include VLSI Design Engineer, Embedded Systems Engineer, FPGA Engineer, RTL Design Engineer, Verification Engineer, and SoC Design Engineer at companies like Intel, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Cadence, Synopsys, Samsung Semiconductors, Tata Elxsi, and various VLSI design startups. The programme also prepares students for research careers and Ph.D. programmes at IITs, NITs, and international universities. With India's National Semiconductor Mission and the establishment of semiconductor fabs, VLSI and embedded systems graduates are in high demand.
Ques. Does VESIT offer Ph.D. in Electronics Engineering? How is it related to the M.E. programme?
Ans. Yes, VESIT offers a Ph.D. programme in Electronics Engineering and has a well-equipped Research and Development Laboratory utilized by PG and Ph.D. students. The institute has been granted Rs. 38.31 Lakhs for 60 months under the Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Scheme for Electronics, under which enrolled Ph.D. candidates receive a monthly fellowship. M.E. graduates from VESIT are well-positioned to pursue Ph.D. at VESIT itself or at other institutions. The M.E. programme's research orientation, with project work and dissertation components, provides a strong foundation for doctoral research in VLSI, embedded systems, and related areas.
Ques. What is the fee structure for M.E. at VESIT compared to B.E.? Is it affordable?
Ans. The M.E. programme at VESIT is significantly more affordable than the B.E. programme. For General category students who are Mumbai University graduates, the annual fee is Rs. 65,506, making the total 2-year fee approximately Rs. 1,31,012. This is considerably lower than the B.E. total fee of approximately Rs. 6.13 lakhs over 4 years. For SC/ST category students, the annual fee is only Rs. 5,506 (tuition and development fees are fully waived), making the 2-year total approximately Rs. 11,012. The affordable fee structure, combined with the availability of GATE scholarship (GATE-qualified students admitted to government-funded institutions receive a monthly stipend, though this applies primarily to NITs/IITs), makes M.E. at VESIT a cost-effective option for specialization in VLSI and Embedded Systems.
