Ques. What is the difference between B.E. Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) and B.E. Computer Engineering at VESIT? Which one is better for software jobs?
Ans. Both branches have strong placement records at VESIT, but they differ in focus. B.E. Computer Engineering is a pure CS/IT-oriented branch covering programming, algorithms, databases, and software engineering in depth. B.E. Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) is a hybrid branch that covers both electronics hardware (microprocessors, VLSI, embedded systems, digital circuits) and computer science (programming, OS, networks, data structures). For pure software/IT roles, Computer Engineering may have a slight edge in terms of depth of CS subjects. However, ECS graduates are equally eligible for most IT company recruitments at VESIT (Capgemini, TCS, Deloitte, ISS Stoxx, etc.) and additionally qualify for core electronics roles (Johnson Controls, Safran, DP World, etc.), giving them a broader career spectrum. Students interested in embedded systems, IoT, or hardware-software integration typically prefer ECS.
Ques. What is the seat intake for B.E. ECS at VESIT, and how competitive is admission?
Ans. The approved intake for B.E. Electronics and Computer Science at VESIT is 60 seats for First Year (FE) and 6 seats for Direct Second Year (DSE/lateral entry). Out of the 60 FE seats, 51% are reserved for the Sindhi Linguistic Minority quota, and the remaining 49% are open/general category seats filled through the Maharashtra CAP process. This makes the open category seats quite limited and competitive. Admission is based on MHT CET 2026 percentile (for Maharashtra State candidates) or JEE Main 2026 score (for All India candidates). Given VESIT's reputation, the MHT CET percentile required for ECS is typically high.
Ques. Does VESIT have a hostel facility? What are the approximate hostel charges?
Ans. VESIT itself does not operate a hostel on campus. However, the VES (Vivekanand Education Society) group operates a separate hostel facility - VES Hostel - which students can opt for independently. The hostel is not mandatory and is managed separately from the college. Hostel fees are not included in the college fee structure. Students interested in hostel accommodation should contact the VES Hostel directly or visit ves.ac.in/ves-hostel for details and current charges. Many students also opt for private PGs and accommodations in the Chembur area, which is well-connected by road and rail.
Ques. Is VESIT an autonomous institute? How does autonomy affect the B.E. ECS curriculum and exams?
Ans. Yes, VESIT is an autonomous institute affiliated to the University of Mumbai. Autonomy means VESIT designs its own curriculum, conducts its own internal examinations, and awards degrees under the University of Mumbai. The curriculum is updated more frequently compared to non-autonomous colleges and is aligned with industry requirements and AICTE guidelines. However, the final degree certificate is issued by the University of Mumbai (not VESIT independently), which is recognized by all employers and universities. Exam schedules, syllabus, and grading patterns are set by VESIT's own academic board, giving the institute flexibility to incorporate emerging technologies into the course.

Ans. B.E. ECS students at VESIT are recruited by a wide range of companies spanning both IT/software and core electronics domains. On the IT side, major recruiters include Capgemini, TCS, Cognizant, Deloitte, ISS Stoxx, Barclays, Nomura, Interactive Brokers, Oracle, Equifax, and Carwale. On the core/electronics side, companies like Johnson Controls, Safran, DP World, Endress+Hauser, and Reliance Industries recruit ECS students. The institute-wide highest package in 2024-25 was 14 LPA (Barclays PPO), and the overall placement offer count was 574 with 505 students placed. While branch-specific average package data for ECS is not separately published, the general range for most IT roles is 4-9 LPA, with select dream companies offering 10-14 LPA.
Ques. Can I apply for government scholarships if I get admission to VESIT through CAP? What documents are needed?
Ans. Yes, students admitted to VESIT through the Maharashtra CAP process are eligible for various government scholarships based on their category. OBC/EBC/SEBC students can avail tuition fee concessions, and female students from EBC/OBC/SEBC/EWS categories with family income below Rs. 8 lakhs get 100% tuition fee waiver. SC/ST/VJ/DT/NT/SBC/TFWS category students get full tuition fee waiver. To avail these benefits, you need to select the correct CASTE category (EBC/OBC/SEBC/EWS) while filling the Pre-Admission form at the time of CAP admission. Required documents include: Caste Certificate, Caste Validity Certificate, Non-Creamy Layer Certificate (for OBC/SEBC), Income Certificate issued by Tahsildar (valid up to March 31, 2025; Form 16 not acceptable), Domicile Certificate, Ration Card (with applicant's name), SSC and HSC mark sheets, and Leaving/Transfer Certificate. Students already receiving full tuition fee waiver are not eligible for VESIT's institutional scholarships separately.
