SHEAT Diploma EE {Lateral} FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between the regular Diploma in Electrical Engineering and the Lateral Entry Diploma at SHEAT?
Ans. The regular Diploma in Electrical Engineering is a 3-year programme open to students who have passed Class 10 (SSC). The Lateral Entry Diploma is a 2-year programme open to students who have passed 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics, or completed a 10th + 2-year ITI course (such as Electrician or Wireman trade). Both programmes lead to the same Diploma in Electrical Engineering certificate from BTEUP. The lateral entry route saves one year and is ideal for students who already have a 10+2 or ITI background and want to fast-track their diploma qualification.
Ques. After completing the Lateral Entry Diploma in Electrical Engineering from SHEAT, can I pursue B.Tech?
Ans. Yes. After completing the Diploma in Electrical Engineering from SHEAT, graduates are eligible to apply for B.Tech Lateral Entry programmes. Under AKTU's lateral entry scheme, diploma holders can directly enter the 2nd year of B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or related branches. SHEAT itself offers B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, so students can continue their education at the same campus. Admission to B.Tech Lateral Entry is through UPTAC counselling based on CUET scores.
Ques. Is JEECUP mandatory for admission to the Lateral Entry Diploma in Electrical Engineering at SHEAT?
Ans. JEECUP is the primary route for admission to polytechnic programmes in Uttar Pradesh, including lateral entry. However, SHEAT may have a limited number of management quota seats where direct admission is possible based on merit, without JEECUP. Students interested in direct admission should contact the SHEAT admissions office at +91-7753811343 to check current seat availability. For JEECUP-based admissions, the registration window for 2026 is open until April 30, 2026.
Ques. What are the career opportunities after completing the Lateral Entry Diploma in Electrical Engineering from SHEAT?
Ans. After completing the Diploma in Electrical Engineering, graduates can work as Junior Electrical Engineers, Electrical Supervisors, Wiremen, or Technicians in power distribution companies, manufacturing plants, construction firms, and government utilities such as UPPCL, NTPC, and Railways. Government job opportunities include posts in state electricity boards, PWD, and municipal corporations. For those seeking higher qualifications, B.Tech Lateral Entry in Electrical Engineering is the natural next step, opening doors to senior engineering roles and government engineering services.
Ques. What is the fee structure for the Lateral Entry Diploma in Electrical Engineering at SHEAT, and are there any hidden charges?
Ans. The annual tuition fee is Rs. 40,000, payable in two instalments of Rs. 20,000 per semester. Additional one-time charges include Rs. 1,500 for the prospectus and Rs. 5,000 for uniform. A refundable caution deposit of Rs. 5,000 is also collected. BTEUP exam and registration fees (approximately Rs. 4,000-6,000 per year) are charged separately by the university. Optional charges include hostel (Rs. 80,000/year) and transport (Rs. 18,000-23,000/year). There are no other hidden charges; the college is transparent about its fee structure on its official website.
Ques. Can ITI-trained electricians apply for the Lateral Entry Diploma in Electrical Engineering at SHEAT?
Ans. Yes, absolutely. Students who have passed Class 10 and completed a 2-year ITI course in a relevant trade (such as Electrician, Wireman, or related electrical trades) are eligible for lateral entry into the 2nd year of the Diploma in Electrical Engineering. This is one of the most common pathways for ITI graduates to upgrade their qualifications to a formal diploma level. The JEECUP lateral entry group specifically caters to such candidates. After completing the diploma, they can further upgrade to B.Tech through the lateral entry route.
