SHEAT B.Pharma Lateral FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between B.Pharma Lateral Entry and regular B.Pharma? Is the degree the same?
Ans. B.Pharma Lateral Entry allows D.Pharm holders to directly enter the 2nd year (3rd semester) of the B.Pharma program, completing the degree in 3 years instead of 4. The degree awarded at the end is the same Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharma) degree from AKTU, and there is no distinction between lateral entry and regular B.Pharma on the degree certificate. Both are recognized by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and are valid for pharmacist registration, M.Pharma admissions, GPAT, and pharmaceutical industry jobs.
Ques. After completing B.Pharma Lateral Entry from SHEAT, can I register as a pharmacist and open my own pharmacy?
Ans. Yes. After completing B.Pharma from a PCI-approved institution like SHEAT College of Pharmacy, you are eligible to register as a pharmacist with the Uttar Pradesh State Pharmacy Council. A registered pharmacist can legally operate a retail pharmacy (medical store), work in hospital pharmacies, and practice as a clinical pharmacist. The B.Pharma degree is a significant upgrade from D.Pharm in terms of career opportunities and the scope of practice permitted under the Pharmacy Act.
Ques. Can I appear for GPAT after completing B.Pharma Lateral Entry from SHEAT? What are the prospects for M.Pharma?
Ans. Yes, B.Pharma Lateral Entry graduates are fully eligible to appear for GPAT (Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test), which is the national entrance exam for M.Pharma admissions. A good GPAT score opens doors to M.Pharma programs at NIPER (National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research), government pharmacy colleges, and reputed private institutions. Students who wish to pursue M.Pharma should focus on building a strong CGPA and start GPAT preparation from the 2nd year of the lateral entry program. SHEAT also offers M.Pharma programs in Pharmacology and Pharmaceutics for those who wish to continue their studies at the same institution.
Ques. What are the career opportunities after B.Pharma Lateral Entry from SHEAT? Is the pharmaceutical industry accessible from Varanasi?
Ans. B.Pharma graduates from SHEAT have career opportunities in pharmaceutical manufacturing companies, hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacy chains, regulatory affairs, clinical research organizations, and government drug control departments. While Varanasi is not a major pharmaceutical hub, graduates can find employment in nearby cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, and Allahabad, as well as in major pharmaceutical clusters in Baddi (Himachal Pradesh), Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad. The placement cell at SHEAT assists pharmacy students with job placements, and companies like Sun Pharma, Cipla, and local pharmaceutical firms have recruited from the campus.
Ques. What is the fee difference between B.Pharma Lateral Entry and regular B.Pharma at SHEAT? Is lateral entry more economical?
Ans. The regular B.Pharma at SHEAT costs Rs. 1,00,000 per year for 4 years (total Rs. 4,00,000 in tuition). The B.Pharma Lateral Entry costs Rs. 1,00,000 in Year 1, and Rs. 63,300 each in Year 2 and Year 3 (total Rs. 2,26,600 in tuition for 3 years). So the lateral entry route is significantly more economical, saving approximately Rs. 1,73,400 in tuition fees compared to the regular 4-year program. Additionally, you save one year of living expenses and hostel costs, making the total savings even higher.
Ques. I missed the CUET UG 2026 registration. Can I still get admission to B.Pharma Lateral Entry at SHEAT for 2026-27?
Ans. If you missed the CUET UG 2026 registration window (which closed on February 4, 2026), you will not be eligible for UPTAC state quota counselling for B.Pharma Lateral for the 2026-27 session, as a valid CUET score is mandatory for UPTAC counselling. However, you may still be eligible for direct/management quota admission at SHEAT College of Pharmacy, which does not require CUET. You can register directly on the SHEAT website (sheatcollege.com) or contact the pharmacy admissions office at +91-7753811343. Alternatively, you can plan to appear in CUET UG 2027 for the next academic session and secure a state quota seat through UPTAC counselling.
