About Government Arts College
Government Arts College, Salem Established in the year 1979, is affiliated to Periyar University. The only Government College in the entire district of Salem, the college has earned a high repute for itself since its establishment. The objective of the college is to provide quality higher education, especially to the women from under-privileged backgrounds. The college has been instilling a sense of hope and confidence among the women by motivating them to pursue academics. Along with education, the college aims to cultivate basic human values, tolerance, national solidarity and communal harmony among the women students. I chosen this college because it collects low fee from students and it was the 2nd nearest college to me. Other colleges are about 20km distance from my home. So It is an tough task to reach college by ontime by using our buses/trains. In other colleges except government colleges, all colleges are collecting more fee which is unplayable by me. The admission process of our college is An website will open by the government. In that website you need to apply for the colleges and course whatever you want to choose. Then, from the college they will call you for counselling. You must pay the fee whenever you have got your seat. If you not pay the fee at that spot you will lose your seat. In other colleges I didn't get a confirmed seat and I didn't have any rejection at any other colleges. There is no entrance exam conducted by the college. You must have an average eligible cutoff of 200/400.

After completing 12th students can apply for this at the government website Depending upon the mark and community category students are required for counseling and then document verification after the appointment. Online mode application application fees 65rs only. The admission process want more improvement because lost students never get their own choice of group you get more mark to obtain your 12th exam you get your choice of department.

You need to pass 12th to join the college. Then the pre-application should be registered. There is also a facility to apply through the website for pre-registration of the application. Preference will be given to the best in the field of sports. After applying you will be contacted by phone to confirm admission.

The course structure is of non semester type. That is yearly examination type. The course structure is very relevant, because there are much more time to study the course subjects. Since chemistry is very much interesting in studying and observation in class rom as well as in the laboratory, I showed more interest on the subject.

I have done my B.Sc mathematics from Government Arts College, Salem. I loved this college. The faculty there deserves appreciation for prioritizing students and their career rather than syllabus. The college also has a quite good alumni network, which does come handy at times of need. We spent hours in the library and labs during our education here, they both are pretty good too

The college is half day so it is big advantage because in other sessions you can go to extra class or even part job. They is very helpful Negative is the rest room available is not too many There is canteen but you cannot all the needs
